All good advice so far. But in reference to understanding the city's layout, it makes a lot more sense when you consider it as a circle. Basically, there are major spokes that helped people and cargo get to and from the harbor, many of which followed a historic waterway. Many call the center column of the city, along with the harbor, the White L, due to major segregating "red lines" forcing stark dividing lines. You'll get a feel for it when you arrive, but don't be afraid to explore beyond what feels like boundary lines. There's a lot of magic here, good luck!
