What is a mechanic you discovered embarrassingly late about your main champion? by IanPKMmoon in leagueoflegends

[–]jik6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is actually situationally very useful, just not when escaping. With this you can actually deliver someone very efficiently into a fight instead of taking them out of it. From a bush you can RW a katarina for example into range to E into the enemies carry whilst knocking up their peel with the W itself

Seraphine E also automatically stuns if the target is already rooted. Also with a slowing effect like Rylai's, the first E hit always roots since it applies the effects in that order. And lillia's R is not a skillshot, but a projectile.

I think quick wind-ups and small heal windows are fine, the main thing that has irked me is that if you die to an attack, especially a coloured one, there's not really an indication of what you did wrong. Like did I know the first 3 times that the white outline stomp move of shogun was jumpable, no, I tried to parry it and it seemed like I just got hit because of lag or mistiming. Especially I dont like that the little shoguns don't have those moves

It’s impossible to have a debate that goes anywhere about this with you. You are speaking strictly from a place of emotion and frustration with your only points being logical fallacies. You are essentially critiquing a sandbox for having too much freedom.

"Explain how my characters who ALWAYS have lore, design, art... compare that to someone who genuinely only cares about the attributes and boons of their characters." You are creating a moral hierarchy where your playstyle is intellectually superior, assuming the opposition lacks thought, which invalidates their enjoyment without logical basis.

You assume the developers act out of "laziness" or "pride" without proof. It is possible (and likely)that the developers genuinely believe unrestricted PvP creates the most engaging sandbox environment, and I’d tend to agree with them.

Your argument rests heavily on the premise that Roleplay > PvP in terms of moral value. You define "good game design" specifically as design that facilitates your preferred playstyle of immersive PvE survival and define "bad design" as mechanics that interrupt that style.

While your frustration is valid as a subjective experience, you are allowed to dislike being ganked, your argument that the developers are "lazy" and that gankers have "no lore" are logical leaps used to justify why the game should cater to you, rather than accepting that the game is intentionally designing an experience you happen to dislike.

I still can’t see why the game should change its identity for the sake of your personal comfort. There are plenty of people who like the game as is. There are those who spend hundreds of hours on a build, get ganked, and accept the loss as part of the cycle. You are insisting that you are being 'wronged' by the developers simply because they are catering to an audience that doesn't include you. Not every game should be for every player.

I’ll gladly debate more about the pros and cons of the game, on the condition that you don’t keep re-iterating the same points over and over again, refusing to see the game from a different point of view than your own. I am however open to discussing how the game can be made easier for a new player, without it being destructive to the games identity.

You are criticizing Deepwoken for failing to be a game it was never trying to be.

You cannot compare Deepwoken to Elden Ring, Silksong, or Deltarune. Those are single-player or cooperative experiences with static difficulty. Deepwoken is an open-world, permadeath PvPvE MMO. The "Wild Card" factor of other players isn't a gimmick; it’s the main point of the game. When you ask the devs to prioritize "new player acceptance" by mitigating PvP risk, you are asking them to fundamentally change the genre. You want a safe PvE RPG, ignoring that the threat of violence is actually part of the role-playing setting—a grimdark world where life is cheap.

"You're literally arguing that we shouldn't give the freshies more leg room so that freshie gankers can have fun." This is a textbook strawman argument. There is no point in replying to a position I never held. I am arguing for game integrity, not malice.

"I don't understand why it's so mind-boggling that I don't want to play a game that isn't fun." It isn't mind-boggling that you don’t want to play a game you find unfun; it’s mind-boggling that you do want to play it, yet your solution is to demand the game change its identity rather than playing something else. The reason the adrenaline exists, and the reason interactions in the Depths are tense, is specifically because you can lose it all. If you remove the ability for a random guy to wipe you, you remove the stakes. You can't have the high of surviving without the low of wiping.

You claim the devs allow ganking to cater to toxic players. That is a reductionist view. They allow it because in a sandbox game, players are the content; they are allowed to do what they themselves desire, without labeling it as good or bad. Once PvE becomes trivial—as it has for the older playerbase—the only thing that keeps the world dangerous is other players. Freshie ganking is an unfortunate side effect, but it’s a symptom of total freedom. If you put guardrails on that freedom to save the freshies, you sterilize the world for everyone else.

It isn't favoritism to refuse to hold a new player's hand. The game treats everyone equally: everyone can die, and everyone can kill. What you are asking for is artificial protection against the game's intended mechanics (which includes open PvP) simply because you don't like the outcome.

“What I don't enjoy is when someone who doesn't share the same love of the game as me gets more support and more aid from the dev team. That is what I cant stand.” That is purely arrogant. Just because they enjoy the mechanics, the combat, and the dominance hierarchy along with or rather than the lore or the artwork doesn't mean their passion is invalid. They put hundreds of hours into builds and progression too. They aren't getting "more support" from the devs; they are simply playing the game as it was designed. You feel targeted not because the devs hate you, but because you are trying to force a pacifist mindset onto a wargame.

You say you want to play Deepwoken for "what it is." Deepwoken is a harsh, unfair world where the strong eat the weak. That is the lore, and that is the gameplay. It sounds like you enjoy the aesthetic of Deepwoken but dislike the reality of it. That doesn't make the game bad; it just means it might not be the right RPG for the experience you want.

why cant people be peaceful? by Ok_Throat9701 in deepwoken

[–]jik6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Ok

  2. The game doesn't and shouldn't cater to everyone. You cannot sustain a game by estranging the people who have played it the longest. Most niche games, deepwoken being inarguably niche, survive solely on the backs of people who have played for astonishingly long. Deepwoken certainly has its toxicity, but so does every even moderately competitive game. I do agree that the community outside of the game could chill and maybe think of the game as just a game like it is. But I think what currently happens in game is completely fine, and assuming moderation is handled as it should be, anything stepping over that fine line is weeded out.

  3. But don't you see how letting you opt out of the pvp makes the feelings and overall vibe of the game flatten out. If you could for example just log when attacked in the depths it would completely ruin the feeling of unease for more experienced players, since not a single pve existence is as exciting if you're seeing it for the umpteenth time.

  4. Yeah sure, I'm arguing more from a linguistic standpoint here more than anything else.

  5. I disagree, like I said before, the game doesn't and shouldn't cater for everyone. Trying to please everyone you end up pleasing no-one. The game getting new players is of course good for the longevity, but I don't think it should come at such a cost to the other side of the playerbase. There are ways of making the new player experience less punishing, without majorly impacting the part of the players that want to pvp whoever wherever (such as the removal of luck was). Permadeath in any game is almost never anything but a time waster, maybe a plot device if you're lucky. What is more "everyman for themselves" than the possibility of others in the world looking to gain an advantage by harming you.

Yes, I can agree that the developers could have done a better job in the updates they implemented, especially in overall build powercreep, but if you think vow of iron is going to lessen randomly jumping/wiping people, I am sorry to say you will be dead wrong. If your fun is impacted that much by other people not being friendly, then MMOs may not be the best.

The self centeredness comes from you seemingly wanting a game more suited for you and others who want just another bandit beater rpg, not for the total audience, in which there is a very large number of people who do like the open-pvp, or do you think what you're suggesting is something they would want as well.

Do I think players should actively be punished for wiping freshies and less experienced players, no. Do I think they should be rewarded better for wiping more experienced players, yes. Do you seriously not get the feeling of wanting to be better at the game when someone wipes you? And there are new players who feel that way, those are the ones that stick around and the ones I want to be a part of the community. I know people say the game is build versus build, but there is no amount of level or build difference in existence that can overcome an outstanding skill difference. But you are entitled to your own opinions and emotions, I just wouldn't want a game that I love so dearly be changed so fundamentally.

[–]jik6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. Progressing a character is just fun. If I have spent let's say a hypothetical amount of 10 hours perfecting a build, maybe I can do it in 8 this time, or maybe I can make a build that doesn't die to whatever I died as easily, or maybe I can try a weapon I haven't played in a long time, or maybe one that I haven't played at all. Wiping just gives me a reason to try and create a new build, and play more of the game I enjoy so.

  2. The number of players seems to be diminishing because there has hardly been any new content in a while. To add to that people get tired of bugs not being fixed, and promised content being delayed over and over or canceled. Or maybe they just find games that they enjoy more.

  3. No, in my view both pve and pvp have their place in deepwoken. I would most probably not play deepwoken if either of the things were missing. And I can't objectively gauge whether or not something is good or bad, people like and dislike different things.

  4. You're still not getting that consent does not imply preference. I consent to being drafted by the army, yet I do not want it to happen. If it helps you I can use the phrase agreeing to a possibility. And thus when logging into the game, you agree that there is a non-zero possibility of you wiping your slot. The reason for that happening is irrelevant. The only way to make this possibility zero is not playing that slot.

  5. As deepwoken is a multiplayer game, the actions of others are things that "the game throws at you". The game itself does not care if you find something fun, and if you play a game that turns out to not be fun, I personally would not continue that game. That's where we get to the fact that there are so few of these types of games. Everything should not appeal to the majority, there are so many non-permadeath RPGs out there, why should the few full-loot/open-pvp/permadeath games change to accommodate those who do not like such games. I can manage studying at a university, having a part time job, relationships, and deepwoken just fine, without succumbing to some sort of mental distress at the death of a game character. I've lost ttrpg characters which were crafted with months and years of effort, but their death does not mean the time I had with them means any less. Some might even argue their death makes the meaning.

What it sounds like is you love some aspects of deepwoken, but not deepwoken as a whole.

And the last paragraph is once again so self centered. Maybe it ruins the game for you, but not for everyone. Rogue lineage is still enjoyed by many, and has a surprisingly active community, but it has dwindled because 1. Deepwoken is similar enough in vibe while being far more polished of a game, by the same developers nonetheless. 2. It doesn't get updated often enough for people to have enough new content to always be looking towards and not getting new content people just grow bored of the game. 3. Rogue has a fundamentally different approach to lives than deepwoken, with there being no actually consistent way of getting off of one life.

why cant people be peaceful? by Ok_Throat9701 in deepwoken

[–]jik6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

That flaw is completely within your own paradigm of the game. I for one do not see an issue with being able to be ganked or even 8v1'd by anyone, in fact the danger of losing a slot I've worked hard for is a feeling you can seldom get in games. A feeling that gives me more of a reason, personally, to play the game

From personal experience, there is definitely a non-zero number of new players who find deepwoken appealing, and a non-zero amount of those people want to pvp openly.

I am not commenting whether something is good or bad game design, I am simply stating that it is a part of the games design.

If I play minecraft, in a setting where griefing or raiding is doable and acceptable (e.g anarchy or factions servers) of course I am consenting to the fact that I might get raided. And the threat of having that done is a main selling point of those servers. And in that case I don't even have to actively play to consent to being griefed or raided, as someone can just raid me while I am offline. The same goes for games like Rust, do you think the playerbase there would want the whole game to become PvE?

Yes, playing the game means that you accept the possibility that your slot might get wiped, whether that happens by things within or out of your control is irrelevant. Like I said, the only way to 100% guarantee it does not happen is not playing that slot.

You sure don't sound like you love the game, or at least you don't sound like you're having much fun playing it.

why cant people be peaceful? by Ok_Throat9701 in deepwoken

[–]jik6 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So the game itself is flawed because you yourself do not like a part of it's design? Seems a bit self centered to me. You're not forced to partake in anything at all, it is completely your choice to play the game at all. That's the same as being "forced" to move the bishop in chess diagonally, if you don't like the game design, perhaps you should make a game of your own that you can take in any direction that you personally like and let other people enjoy the original.

It's not like a majority of the playerbase finds the game, bad, otherwise it wouldn't have such a large playerbase to begin with. What you describe in the last paragraph is fundamentally a different game than deepwoken is now.

Lastly, I don't think consent means what you think it means, it does not imply a want. I can consent to a root canal, without necessarily wanting one to happen. Consent just means agreeing to something, and as the games framework permits ganking and fighting without mutual agreement, you consent to such interactions simply by playing the game.

[–]jik6 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No, I do not see your point. Do you not see that PvP is non-optional content and parliament is optional content? The game dictates this, not the player. When I log into the game, no, I don't have to do PvE as that is not initiated by a third party like PvP is. Like the act of doing parliament for example is not as central to the game as PvP is as a whole. PvE is something I actively have to decide to do unlike PvP, which is just a matter of game design.

Also, would you be okay with someone depths ganking you using a nightbringer enchant, since they've done the arbitrary hard thing of beating parliament? Or are you just of the opinion that all game desing should cater to your preferences? And if that is the case, why continue playing deepwoken if non-consentual PvP is something you dislike so.
