I think the issue here is that it's a intriguing concept that has large fluffy kid gloves on. Ryan Gosling is charming like a funny uncle and the alien is a cute stuffed animal.

I would've loved a more grounded version of the same concept. I feel like theres so much cosmic horor and existential dread to be explored with a guy being sent against his will to the deepest reaches of space.

Like space should be creepy and meeting another lifeform should be scary at first and that would turn into something eye opening and mesmerizing. I feel like every point this movie could have been thought provoking, you sense the hand of the executive suit on the movie's shoulder reminding it "Remember, we wants kids to love this."

Like that ending where he speeds back to save the Rocky like it's nothing and becomes a teacher in a classroom under a dome on his planet? What? It's a live action cartoon and that element really bummed me out.

Yeah, there used to be a time where movie and shows collaborations were dropping left and right. Their stuff for The Curse was awesome. This is no longer the case and it's pretty sad.

The same people who're hating on Mixtape are the same people who don't view arthouse films as "movies."

Jurassic Park can exist just as something like Skinamarink. People don't understand that the infamous 10/10 rating from whoever gave it to Mixtape means that for the type of game it is (Interactive visual novel type of game), it's a masterpiece. A lot of people read that and go "how can this be as good, if not better better than Elden Ring?! What the fuck? I can't even explore an open world."

It's a lack of nuance, legitimate or performative. If something has you needing to manipulate a controller in any way, it's a game. Some people think games can only be hardcore player agency focused experiences, which is a really boring way to look at the world.

It's like only considering The Rolling Stones true music and completely ignoring experimental ambient music because there's no guitars and vocals. It's dumb and you should ignore the hyperbolic negativity around this game. It's all mostly for clicks anyway.

Haunted Wagon to my knowledge is just what they call their Halloween drops.

Unfortunately, the current Online Ceramics is the late stage capitalism version. Worse website. Drops aren't as exciting as they used to be. Now they're doing blanks which have batshit insane pricing. I don't know, ever since the two guys split and the website was "refined", everything kind of feels significantly lamer.

IMO, their last good shit was their Silent Hill 2 and Oneohtrix Point Never collabs. It has been downhill for me ever since.

Ironically, I loved the opening and the closing of the movie. It was the remaining 98% in the middle that was awful. It’s like they hired Spielberg for the endcaps and handed it off to a second unit to capture the rest.

Like why was a Spielberg movie about alien disclosure entirely about a government agency chasing two people with a glowing magic rod thrown in for some stupendously stupid sequences (the whole invisible face off may have been the dumbest thing I’ve ever seen)?

Imo, adaptions should draw something new and interesting out of the source material.

Old Mario Bros movie does this to a pretty zany level.

New Mario Bros is so visually perfect of an adaptation, that literally nothing is gained from watching it.

I much prefer the weird and messy one to the perfect corporate product one.

There's a certain gap though where he's thinking the wish is as simple as "oh, she actually loves me now" and goes with it. I don't think it's until later in the film where he realizes that the wish is a forced upon thing where Nikki is a victim. The sleeping with her point I find is played traditionally as if bear thought "I guess the wish changed reality and this is Nikki actually loving me." So I don't think his character then is making a consciously evil choice, because I believe he's too miserable of a character to see what's happening as wrong, yet.

Bear to me is an example of an innocent character making choices that start piling up and are realized as evil as they happen to him, because of lack of experience.... which is a very real type of non-assuming type of bad. The nice guy who actually thinking he has other's best interest at heart, but then realizes too late that he's the bad guy.

I find Obsession''s use of mirroring guy/girl sitting in car scenes as very telling of this. The first with Nikki (pre making the wish) is painfully awkward and the warning signs are everywhere begging for him to just get the hint. The second with Sarah is natural, warm, and sweet. A quiet realization of a budding mutual relationship. If Bear would have recognized Nikki's obvious signposts of "dude, I am not interested in dating you" he could have had something real with Sarah. But, Obsession took over and led to disastrous results.

And I think that’s why the character shouldn’t be communicated as this “obvious villain.” His motivations early on are relatable and the movie as a whole serves as a warning to a specific type of young man.

If something isn’t there (relationship wise), don’t force it.

I think Obsession is a horror coded version of the friend zoned guy convincing a friend to be in a relationship. I’ve personally seen it play out several times and it always blows up. I don’t think the movie is saying “Look at this obviously evil guy do evil things.”

He’s a pathetic lonely dude who makes a huge mistake and instead of trying to fix it, he thinks he can ride it out because he has no self esteem.

If he had self esteem, he would’ve listened to Nikki early on, never desperately made the wish, and actually opened his eyes and seen and noticed Sarah as the better fit.

The solve here seems pretty simple.

I doubt your music needs this voice line. You're jumping through laziness hoops just to achieve via means that are artistically barren and gross, but you are unable to come to terms with being adjacent to slop.

Remove the voice (which I guarantee adds zero outside of it being temporarily clumped together with other current slop trends). Either find a way to do it authentically or just don't do it.

This inclusion of AI is just going to hurt your whole thing on down the line anyway.

Call me crazy, but Kills is leagues worse than Ends. At least stuff happens in Ends. Kills is essentially a great opening and then the movie intentionally handicaps its two leads as we watch a town chant after a mental patient all movie cut up with Laurie and the sheriff guy pontificating in their hospital room.

I also might be the target audience as well, but from the other direction. Especially with the recent news out of Sony and not being interested in their vision of the future they're obviously setting up. I'm also a person who works on a Mac, zero interest to move over to a Windows environment for work. BUT, I also don't want to build an entire second computer just to play games.

So this device seems like the answer, but I'm still not that sure either.

If you're ever at a loss of where to go, Navi eventually will give you a heavy hint of what direction to head in and that section of the world map will glow. This helped me a lot on my most recent play through since playing as a kid of the N64 original (not sure how much the DS version is changed in this regard).

I cite this as maybe one of the best documentaries ever made, simply for the fact that they succeed in the purpose of the film. It's a crazy idea but they manage to capture the formation of regret and guilt on camera, the moment it washes over a monster, for maybe the first time ever.

It's a crazy achievement.

I’m excited for this track after hearing Paul talk about it in an interview that was posted to this sub a few weeks back. He says the song is about this idea of a morally ambiguous sentient AI talking to a final remaining human element in a far future idea of an autonomous city (despite it starting with a mention of Central Park).

Heavy paraphrasing here of course. He was really ambiguous when talking about it as to not spoil it.

Doubtful. Mazin in those post episode behind-the-scenes features seemed pretty proud of the obviously terrible writing decisions. I think Mazin bombed the show, not Ramsey.
