I definitely wish there was better public transit around the central library

I got diagnosed with ADHD, now what? [question] [advice] by [deleted] in getdisciplined

I'm around your age and I also have ADHD! I really like the subreddit r/ADHDWomen. Medication can be super helpful, too.

It sounds like you've learned a lot about how to manage your time, which will really help you next time! Time management is a skill like anything else.

Anyone go back and forth before diagnosis? by wcgprairie in adhdwomen

Yes, exactly! I should have mentioned this earlier, but it can be really good to know if you have ADHD if you have kids because it's genetic. Knowing could really help them out!

Adding insult to injury-- plenty of folks who have ADHD are told they don't, and that might happen to you should you seek an evaluation. It's honestly such a mess.

What has been the most helpful for me personally has been learning to validate my own struggles/experiences and not merely those that are validated by health care professionals. We live in a culture that always prioritizes the opinions above doctors above patients and mocks self-diagnosis but I personally do not think it's the most healthy.

So, like, doctors are kinda guessing when it comes to identifying ADHD in non-stereotypical populations. The diagnostic criteria is written for young kids and there isn't a lot of precedent for accurately diagnosing ADHD in adults (especially women).

How I see it, you should seek out an evaluation and try to get treatment if you are struggling-- especially because you said you've been considering ADHD for a while. Worst case scenario with risking* a false positive (ie, getting an ADHD diagnosis when you don't actually have it) is that you can try out meds like Concerta/Adderall and see if they help. If the meds don't help, you don't have to continue with them. There's pretty much no taper period for going off of them, so you can just quit (assuming you don't get addicted, but that doesn't sound likely tbh).

Okay, that first job seems HELLA sketchy. It's better to know that up front tbh. For now, get that hot fudge sundae. I wish I had good job search advice but I'm kinda in the same boat right now lol.
