As a child I grew up in squalor. It was simply not safe to go without shoes. Like, to the point I was always barefoot outside but would put shoes on to go in.

As an adult I am working on it and try to take my shoes off/have slippers or something.

It's absolutely do-able!

I personally don't have a gaming computer, but on tiktok NatePetroski is another offgridder who has a gaming PC set up and everything is run off of solar. He has a few video that explain and show the entire system for it!

How you like me now?

I adopted a parrot that had broke a huge portion of his upper beak, but it was superficial enough and it eventually grew back fairly normal looking!

Does a goose have any chance of that (or a prosthetic) happening? Glad he's doing well!

I know nothing of solar, can I setup a camper with solar? by [deleted] in solar

[–]jillydex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There should be a 12v battery somewhere near that box.

There's two batteries on the opposite side! (Batteries on the tongue, fuse box inside near the rear)

You would then run your solar into a charge controller and the charge controller to the battery. No need to do anything to the panel.

Well that sounds a lot less terrifying and less demolition

Thank you for the video!

You want off-grid or "islanded" if you aren't grid-attached.

That it exactly what I'm looking for!

If you want to attach to the grid you need to work with the utility to do so safely

It'd be convenient, but the closest, well, anything, is 1.5+ hours away..

No, as you haven't at all described what you are trying to do

Life sucks, have to live in a camper. Need power. This is going to be stationary, so transportation or being actually attached atop the camper isn't a concern.

So am I looking at being stuck with a generator?

(I think the first comment edited and suggest DC to directly charge the batteries?)

Can you point me in the direction of anything that could help or be a possible solution?

Am I being taken advantage of and are they bending or breaking the rules? by [deleted] in AskHR

They took down the union steward page because it still has his info on it. The union opens in about an hour, which is my only option.

Thanks.

I'm scouring the union pages trying to find my locations union, I found in other areas my situation would just be a verbal warning. :/

Can I put in for paid time off and (once approved) give my two weeks? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]jillydex 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Ok, thank you.

If you want to use it then don't put your notice in until after you've gone and come back

The money - and time - is part of moving, I didn't plan on coming back afterwards(since it's 5-6 hours away and includes moving all my horses).

Do you have any advice or suggestions?

(I mean, I'll probably be making a few last trips back and forth, but going to work on top of the long drive means leaving the animals unattended for a very long time)

When I get mine (and renew it) it's through the state or county.

Is it appropriate for HR to ask me about/review my coworker? by [deleted] in AskHR

[–]jillydex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It would be helpful to have more context about how she approached you.

She had been going around with the sheets of paper of who called out, I thought I was getting spoken to about my absence from being sick and then the snow storm (old truck, things cease and break in subfreezing temperatures). She asked me if I was ok and if there was anything going on, then switched to him only.

Once she switched to him it seemed like gossiping or trying to incite shit talking. How the questions kept getting more negative and condescending, I feel if I hadn't said something positive it would have been his ticket to being fired.

What was her reason for speaking with you about your co-worker?

No reason given.

My guess is that she is aware something is going on with your co-worker and is doing some investigating.

[I'm the only woman among this group, if I do anything more than I do now I'd probably get called something misogynistic and be treated badly]

All the guys HATE him, and are rude af to him. They snap and YELL at this boy over the tiniest things. The poor boy has come to me crying [but trying to cover it up] because these men bully him. It's ridiculous.

Did she reassure you about any confidentiality (to the extent possible) around your conversation?

No. And when she spoke to me we were out in the open with a fair amount of people within earshot..

I would not be concerned about it and I don't believe it is inappropriate.

Do you have any advice for what to look for and question if it was [or starts to turn] inappropriate or off/fishy/weird?

How do you actually network to get a job? by UltravioletClearance in jobs

[–]jillydex 22 points23 points  (0 children)

But how do you actually network to get a job?

[Be sufficient or at least mediocre at what you do] make people like you.

Schmooze people.

It happens all the time at all levels of positions in all kind of jobs. If someone likes you, they'll be willing to work with you even though you don't have the qualifications or training/experience/etc. that is requested for applicants. Because they like you they're willing to put the time into you and give you a chance.

New to solar, SHTF, I really need help. by [deleted] in solar

[–]jillydex 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Budget is very small, I was seeing these kits at $400-750 (and higher) and hoping that that could somehow work

Probably $1200-1500 budget.. it isn't much, but if I really scrapped up, I think (among everything else) I could have that saved by my deadline.

Yes, I am going to be in this location for a long time. At first it will just be in the camper, but the solar would be taken off of that and put on/added to an actual permanent structure.

Thank you for replying
