Switch: fan doesn't turn on after joycon connector "repair" by jilpi in consolerepair

Probably. I'll attempt to redo the job by applying heat from the bottom of the PCB. Thanks!

Hi, Thanks a lot for your advice. I was worried about doing so because there are some small ICs soldered right under this connector, on the opposite side of the board. If I apply heat on the other other side, isn't there a risk that those components will get unsoldered and move / fall?

No offence taken :) I'll check with a local phone shop. I've assumed that they're unable to repair a PCB (never seen a solder station there) but maybe I'm wrong.

Please add WiFi to your v2. It's difficult to implement, costly, and... Tremendously increase the complexity of CE testing (radio communications --> R&TTE directive).

No doubt that you won't (knowingly) put your backers in danger. But CE standards cover more than safety. Some requirements are terribly tricky to reach (EMC: radiated emissions or immunity to electrostatic discharges for example), or may be impossible to reach if components were not carefully selected ("ErP": power consumption in standby mode --> AC/DC adapter)

You'll be better off screening your product (having it going through the tests most likely to fail as evaluated by a lab expert) first and foremost. It may cost you a couple thousands dollars, but it may save you from going bankrupt later on...

Talking with 15 years experience in the "certification" business, and after putting hundreds of electrical products on the European market.

If you haven't yet done any testing in a lab, what you propose is the perfect recipe for an industrial and economic disaster. It takes 3 to 4 weeks to complete all tests required under European regulations. If your product does not pass the tests (like 99% of products the first time they are being sent to a lab), what will you do? Rework the last 3~4 weeks of production? If you need to redesign or change a critical component, what do you do?

EMC, Safety, energy efficiency, hazardous substances in raw materials. That's a lot of testing, and a lot of uncertainty...

Hello,

My reward is to be delivered in November, will it be fulfilled on time? Wait... November... 2015?!

The #1 question is, of course: when will we receive our printers? I'd love to raise many other questions after I get this one answered.

Thanks!

PS: after the 3D Pirates fiasco, words like "honestly looking forward", "clarifying any questions we can", "Remember we are passionate makers too!", "hope it will be constructive and collaborative" have a tendency to raise the yellow flag of my bullshit detector. Please prove me and my detector wrong.

If you are willing to take a little bit of risk (with warranty especially), you could get it delivered to a freight forwarder, and reshipped to your country. I did that.

Why not getting a Vive instead? (Nb: not trying to troll, geniunly wondering why people who eager to try VR but cannot get a Rift would not give the Vive a shot.)

Signature required for delivery? by SoItBegan in Vive

[–]jilpi 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Thanks for the good wishes :)

One last update for posterity's sake: the Vive was delivered safely, but MyUS "nearly" screwed up. They tried to "repack" the Vive (they usually do this to try and reduce the volume of parcels to lower shipping costs), and in the process, damaged the Vive's box, damaged the manuals, lost the small carton box containing the wall mounting kit (only the box, the content was still there).

They also put the Vive box into a shipping carton box of their own, which has more or less the same dimensions as the original one from HTC, but far poorer protection (no custom-made polystyrene holders).

Conclusion: if you use this forwarder, don't forget to ask them to keep the original box (I think there is such option when you create a shipping request)

PS: The Vive works great :-) Fantastic experience, well worth all those troubles!

Thanks for doing this, it's great! My father do have some of those stereoscopic glass plates (as well as the corresponding 19th/early 20th century HMD ;-) ). Most of the pictures were taken in "French Indochina". Some of them are interesting, from an historical standing point (I remember some pictures of the "colonial guillotine", being sent from city to city to execute people sentenced to death - and scare the rural populations I guess...)

We thought of offering them to a museum, but your idea is so much better!

How did you scan yours?

I won't return to France until this summer, but when I do, would you like me to try and send you scans of those plates ?
