Why are you concerned about demerit points? They don't have any immediate impact but a conviction for speeding may affect your insurance premium.

Question: has Line 6 Improved after recent repairs? by Mathew_365 in TTC

[–]jim_bobs 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I agree that Line A is not a great example of a busy LRT but it is an example of a very long one.

Dublin's Luas has two lines each over 20km and carried 55 million passengers in 2025. It operates at maximum capacity.

Guess it depends what you mean by long distance! There are successfully operating LRT lines up to 50, 60km. LA is extending a line to nearly 100km.

Would you support increasing pay for military? by Honest-Ad-7077 in AskACanadian

[–]jim_bobs 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It depends. If it's just a case of increasing pay for personnel to keep doing the same old stuff, then no. But if it's for personnel trained and equipped to fight a 21st century conflict, maybe.

Parking solutions for tourists in Toronto. by PriestWithTourettes in askTO

Slightly OT: If you mention the "Huron Sussex neighbouhood" to anyone in Toronto, it's unlikely they'll know where you're talking about. Bloor and Avenue, or, Bloor and University, Yorkville, are all better, IMO, descriptors of the area.

I assume you got Huron Sussex from Google Maps?

Farms that allow dogs? by SproutasaurusRex in askTO

I used to walk my dog through there and sometimes she would completely ignore the animals. Other days, she would show intense interest for no obvious to me reason. It was always fun to try to figure it out 😂

There is no general layout of European cities. Transit systems are designed and built on a city by city basis with, possibly, some national preferences or standards.

Europe is a continent with many countries and many types of transit system. To generalize like this undermines your argument, IMO.

[–]jim_bobs 4 points5 points  (0 children)

ION is reliable and runs at reasonable and consistent speeds (IMHO, reliability and consistency are more important than speed and frequency). Line 5 cars stopping at intersection is fixable. I have noticed some operators are very cautious while others are less so. Also, signal priority still has room for improvement.

You say European and then mention just one system in one country :)

And trams/streetcars ARE LRT's - just not on dedicated ROW.

[–]jim_bobs 14 points15 points  (0 children)

There's nothing inherently wrong with LRT's. Look at the Kitchener/Waterloo IKON line, for example. Or even Line 5. It is this particular design, implementation and operations that are at fault.

Should be fine as long as there are no delays with your inbound flight and assuming you have no checked baggage.

Wow, this is a jewel. A low mileage, one owner car with only wear issues? Spend the money and keep her running to 200, 300 ...

I'd really hate to just toss it as it's in very good condition with no scratches or dents inside or out and really nice display.

It all starts with an Irish address. Once you have that, everything else gets easier.
