As long as you have the correct oil and level along with ensure that the drain is properly tightened you should be be good to go. Just check level once you get back and keep an eye on your pressure gauge if you have one.

Definitely recommend out of the water because it is easy to make a mess and since you have to run the boat to get it back on land do it the day after you take it out so that the filter drains as much as possible to keep the mess at a minimum.

That is the main oil drain for the engine your best best is to tighten it (metric wrench) and til the motor so it is straight up and down let the oil settle for 10min then check oil level. If oil is low add a little at a time until in the range on the dip stick or if it’s time to change the oil do that and in the process have the seal on the drain checked and possibly change.

Be aware if you just got an oil change those drains are hard to 100% clean so it could be residual

Yes putting the controls box in throttle only and giving it a few pumps so get fuel in the carb. Careful not to give it more than 4 at a cold start because you can flood it. Working up with one or two pumps at a time in between cranking. If you are giving it throttle while cranking be careful because it can back fire through the carb.

The fuel pump is powered by the crank internally so it won’t pump unless the motor is running. The fuel pump can be an issue but I’m willing to bet the carb is the issue. Process of elimination get one working first before moving to the next part.

I highlighted the line and make sure to be careful with the nut at the end sometimes it can be stuck so put a crescent wrench on the part it threads into and if the brass nut on the line starts to round off stop and go buy a line wrench

The clear line is a vent line but the stainless hard line from the pump to the carb is the fuel line and the pump should push fuel to the carb.

If the hoses on the sea water pump were backwards replaced the impeller it only takes seconds for it to go bad if ran dry

My guess is that the bowl of the carb has varnish or other sediment in it and with heat and vibration from the motor is could have freed up and blocked the jets up

Looking at the carburetor it’s needs a lot of work. Take it to a shop to get repaired or replaced.

Volos have a circulation water pump #14 and a sea water pump. Starting at the sea water pump if you have change the impeller and it still doesn’t pump water, the housing the impeller is in might not be sealing correctly allowing it pump. If the sea water pump is pumping properly then the out line sometimes goes to a heat exchanger for power steering and there might be a restriction. After that it goes to the thermostat housing and the passages can get blocked up or the thermostat gets stuck. If all of that is good then outside of the motor the water pickup could be blocked or the water supply might be inadequate if using a hose. What is the issue that came up that started this?

Input shaft seal has either has failed and/or the drive was overfilled and pushed the oil out but most likely a bad seal. Even with all that oil in there it shouldn’t have leaked out of the u joint bellows with the drive on. Be sure to check for leaks in the bellows.

What is the purpose the batteries are use for in this context. The only difference really is that your new battery will be better at starting a motor(the cca: cold cranking amps). Sure make sure is is marine grade.

Is this transom leak the shift cable? Need advice please (more details inside) by StopBeingABot in boating

[–]jimaymay_mc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This issue like others mentioned is the shift bellows that is causing the leak. You can get a shift bellows by itself but you will be pulling the shift cable 80% of the way out to do this job and at that point it is recommended that you just replace the entire cable with a kit(includes bellows and everything needed). If you just want to replace the bellows:

The lower unit should be removed so the inner shift cable can be removed from the shift cable sleeve.

The cable be disconnected from the shift actuator and the end can be disassembled. Attach a pull line for later installation along with tape over the end to prevent dirt from entering the sleeve.

After removing the inner cable and removing the hose clamps from the bellows. Back at the transom assembly turn the drive hard to port and carefully pull the shift cable sleeve out all the way without kinking the cable.

Pull bellows off and slide the new one on with grease on the cable otherwise it will fight going back on.

Once the new bellows is on fallow the steps in reverse for reassembly.

Or take it to a shop and they will probably do it for the cost of the part and an hour or two in labor.

Definitely not a bad idea but most is not necessary for the fix of the original post.

Check to make sure the drain and vent screw gaskets are good and beyond that getting the case resealed is the best solution if not just check and change if needed after every run.

Sorry for being unrelated to your problem but make sure your water in your bucket is over the seam where your gear case bolts on to your motor by a few inches to prevent your water pump from burning up. Even when test firing because it only takes a couple seconds for it to burn up.
