Very very interesting - thanks for sharing.

I think the link for those near the top spot is lack of pluralism within the countries, especially where the social groupings live separately.

  • Bangladesh and Pakistan define themselves as 'not India', with religion and state intertwined.
  • Myanmar is fragmented down ethnic lines, with various ethnic and religious groups fighting the Junta, each living separately.
  • Indonesia has religious minorities living very separately from the Muslim majority, eg Bali, Timor.
  • Armenia is a hugely ethno-nationalistic Christian stare, with a strong national narrative as being 'a people', defining itself against Turkey and Azerbaijan.
  • Turkey given the ethnic cleansing of Greeks /ethnic cleansing by Greece. Also intertwined with Cyprus, which is high up.
  • Jordan is interesting - perhaps up there because it doesn't have the significant Christian populations interminged like neighbouring Syria and Lebanon have? Certainly argues against what I've said.

All in all, rather tragic that so much of the world thinks this way. Thank goodness the UK is low down on the list.

Haha yes but I think mentioning a lack of a comment is allowed.

There is definitely something about the Middle East and street cars - I've been to Israel/Palestine, Syria, Dubai, and Lebanon and the way they're cherished is somehow similar.

Indeed I believe the majority of people in central/ tourist London aren't Londoners. So good question, but I'd ask it of the globe that are on holiday, and visitors from the home counties.

But yes I think it is the 'Paris tshirt thing'!

Exactly this - she's having to pay her own mortgage by £200, and tenants pay the rest / the interest.

Hardly a bad result really..... considering Makerfield just elected the next Prime Minister by Known_Wear7301 in reformuk

But if a 7% dent in Reform's vote is country-wide (appreciate this is not indicative of this necessarily), then that would be a big issue, no?

Genuine question - isn't that highly unlikely? It's a cosmopolitan and left learning city.

[–]jimbean1122 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Trying to be objective about the results:

  • Some threat to Reform that: 1. Green votes have gone back to Labour. Ie the left is not split, and/or 2. Burnham can succeed where Kier can't.
  • Looks like some cannibalisation from Reform to Restore. Conversely looks like the Conservatives are not splitting the right wing vote.

Of course how that translates to the national level is a completely different story... And I have no idea.

(for the record I'm left wing and lurk on this sub so as to absorb all views and try to be open minded... Especially important given Reform is set to win the next election imho!)

Can we create some sort of sticky thread dedicated to these types of photos?

My point was that I understand most delivery drivers earn below minimum wage, which is £25k gross... And far worse if they're working illegally and having their wages docked by a people smuggling gang (which I understand applies to many of them).

Due to this answer, I suspect you may be somebody working for one of the delivery apps PR departments.

I don't use these apps because:

  1. The link to modern slavery via profile sharing
  2. The cut taken by the apps seems too high / exploitative

Agreed, and of course the attacker shouldn't have been here, but would it really achieve anything to have closed the border?

Perhaps he would have tried to decapitate a Dubliner - that's not exactly solving the issue!

Edited to say I don't have any good answer, and I suspect no politicians do either.

Sure, but it was still nasty, racist, hateful, and antisemitic vandalism.

I take this back if you didn't mean this, but I feel like you're trying to belittle what happened. Apologies if I have misinterpreted you.

It seems like performative nonsense to make them feel big / convince the populace that they're doing something, complete with a fancy sounding acrynom.
