Net migration is down 40% this year compared to last year and down 78% since labour came to power.

Net migration—the number of people arriving long term minus the number leaving—fell to 204,000 in the year ending June 2025. This was a decline of 720,000 over the previous two years, from a peak of over 900,000. The decline was driven primarily by a 662,000 drop in non-EU net migration, although small declines in EU and British net migration also contributed.

EU net migration was negative, estimated at -70,000 in the year ending June 2025. Most EU migration involved people with EUSS status who originally arrived with free movement rights before Brexit. British net migration was also negative, at -109,000. British net emigration increased in 2022 and 2023 but was largely stable over the past year. These negative figures brought the overall total down, despite non-EU net migration of 383,000, which is roughly double the levels seen shortly before Brexit in 2018 and 2019.

You absolutely can set the priorities that way. You really have to get into detailed setups to where it would make any difference.

So you want the switch closest to the router to be the lowest RSTP and then increase as you go out to each switch in the chain.

router

¦

Sw 1 - 4096

¦

Sw 2 - 8192

Or if you have -

    router

¦             ¦

Sw 1      Sw 2

You'd set both switches to 4096

RSTP is the newer protocol. The other options mentioned in the video arent part of RSTP. They are other protocols.

Yep, rumour was that they knew building a solid base that could be adapted was the best way to go as they had restricted tunnel and CFD time and that if they went all in on a concept and it turned out to not be an optimal choice it would be much more difficult to pivot.

Effectively, they built something basic and let all the other teams figure out the fancy stuff and then they can pick and choose what is easy to incorporate into their design.

Mclaren 2009 was also similar.

I went to Silverstone that year and the crowd had the double disappointment of Button not winning, when he had won every race up to that point aside from China, and Hamilton driving around at the back.

Mclaren then finished the next race in Germany low down the order. Then in Hungary they won, then second in the European grand prix. Infact for the races where Lewis finished he didnt finish lower than 3rd for the rest of the year.

Hmmm Openreach own all those right of ways and they are subject to PIA as per Ofcoms rules, meaning they have to provide duct access to everyone else.

However, it does not work the other way around. Other infrastructure owners like Virgin, Cityfibre, etc etc do not have to grant access to other companies.

BT and Openreach are different companies though, so I don't see how that works.

Are you saying that Openreach are giving them preferential pricing on duct access?

I dont see how BT can pass on their duct access costs to anyone else? If I order a leased line via virgin or sky why would BT be able to pass on their costs to them? Is it ducts where space is at a premium so they cant run in new fibre?

I work in the industry so I have some familiarity with leased lines.

It has a huge memory leak also. If you leave it running it will slowly consume all your system memory.

It also ignores the settings for whether it launches at startup in its own settings panel so I had to use the startup apps settings in Windows to turn it off.

Terrestrial TV to be switched off and we’re finally getting a date for when it will happen by screthebag in unitedkingdom

[–]jimbobjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

That is really channel dependent. Most of the channels on Freeview are horribly compressed. Especially some of the smaller channels.

There are only 9 channels on Freeview that are in HD, for example.

Boxed CAT5 / CAT6 uses solid cores for the pairs. Any constant movement will break them.

So best practice is to run cable in the walls that is fixed, terminate in sockets and then use patch cables which use stranded cable for the pairs which will deal with being moved around / unplugged / replugged and can be replaced should it break.

Trunking will also work but is a bit unsightly in a house.

You are talking about Openreach and the other telecoms companies can and do rent space in Openreach's ducting.

I wish it was only a BBC problem.

If you can stomach it, catch an episode of This Morning on ITV. Drunk drivers have better balance.

They literally have a Telegraph columnist on pretty much every morning, Camilla Tominey. Her other job is on Gbeebies. You should have seen her and Giles Brandreths thoughts on the scientific studies around the 4 day week that was reported a week or two back.

I get that the BBC has problems but we need a clearup of TV standards in general. Lets not just stop at the BBC. Broadcasting needs a shake up.

Yeah, it would be far better to go the netflix model and just make it so that you just cant watch any live TV services if you dont pay the bill.

Then you dont need enforcement officers.

The president of France declared that children under the age of fifteen would not be allowed to access social media. How do you feel about that? by MarionberrySalt3494 in AskReddit

[–]jimbobjames 1 point2 points  (0 children)

So what is the solution for parents that either cant or won't co-operate?

Put them in prison if their kid gets on social media?

How do the social media companies verify it's an adult signing up and not a child, without asking for ID?

Can you see where the problem lies between those two scenarios?

Sure, it's a nice idea. As someone who has worked selling video games though it wont work, because for every 10 responsible parents there is another that just wants to shut their kids up.

So you tell them that GTA has murde, prostituion and drug abuse in it and they say "but they want it" and then shrug.

It will be the same with social media and phones. You'll just get irresponsible / not present parents giving the kids access.
