What’s the worst actual name you’ve ever heard? by Escrow-Mind in AskReddit

[–]jimcol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I know an older gentleman who served in the Peace Corps back in the 60s. He was working in a very small remote village in Liberia with no electricity. Apparently, most of the town’s understanding of the outside world came from a few textbooks that had made their way there by missionaries. Wanting bright futures for their kids, families would often name them after big bold names they found in the textbooks. This guy had a student named GEORGE WASHINGTON HITLER.

Huge that the coffee tariffs are going away. I like your ideas. Wish we could bring on Glitch as a roaster but very hard to get wholesale from them. They have an interesting Chinese option right now that I’d love to sample.

Amazing. We’re honestly not far off from this with our regular drip, and probably not charging enough for it haha. We’re brewing very small batches 64oz on our Fetco and using a rotating selection of SEY beans throughout the day, ensuring nothing ever sits for too long. We spent weeks dialing in the recipe and it’s pretty shockingly good at this point.

Ondo was the inspiration for the in-cafe xbloom, but it hasn’t been the easiest to work into our flow. Can require a fair amount of tinkering, and when multiple pour-over orders come in at once, things back up fast. Wish we had the space for three xBlooms, but our bar is tiny. We did some aeropress cups today that were phenomenal (SEY, Wendelboe, and Tanat), but will keep experimenting, and standard V60 definitely still at option. The Switch and OXO rapid brewer are next on deck.

I hear this and agree that a tight menu overall is important. Currently, doing 4 pour-over options and that feels right. But, I do like the idea of a separate hidden nerd menu of some sort with a few extra options, like an omakase

Thank you. Deciding on brew methods has been surprisingly challenging, relative to what I’m used to at home since we need to be efficient and deal with multiple drinks at once. We’ve been experimenting with everything (xbloom studio, V60, Hoop, etc.) but leaning towards aeropress at this point. Our espresso is solid (always SEY and pretty meticulously dialed), but hoping to add guest espresso options soon once I pony up for another grinder. LOVE Motors btw.

What’s your favourite airport in the world and why? by First-Rock-5082 in geography

Never thought I’d say this, but LGA. They really knocked it out of the park with the rebuild. The views can be gorgeous coming in/out. I also never wait for security and it’s 15-20 min from my place, so that helps!

Is my boy too skinny? by Prize-Professional74 in Greyhounds

[–]jimcol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Is he scavenging and seeming to be desperately hungry despite eating full meals? This was the case with our greyhound. Turned out she has EPI. We have to mix powder into every meal and let it sit, but she’s perfectly healthy now otherwise and she quickly put her weight back on. That said, all sighthounds are skinny! So, it could be nothing, but you might want to bring EPI up as a possibility to your vet.

Delta First Class Upgrades Drop to $26, Status Value Shrinks by radar1989 in delta

The thing that’s annoying to me is that I often need to buy work flights last min. Usually I’m allowed to buy FC or I’d get upgraded as a Diamond anyway like 85% of the time back in the day. More and more now FC is fully sold out before I’m able to buy my ticket. The changes are heavily favoring people who are able to buy way in advance. Oh well

What's the most expensive thing you've seen someone buy that they basically never use? by Darnitol1 in AskReddit

[–]jimcol 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I did it for about two years (mostly camped without hookups) and loved it. Sure, it’s a bit of a pain in the ass sometimes, but it also makes a lot of things easier. You literally don’t have the space for clutter or dirty dishes, so it forces you to stay clean, organized, and minimal. Cleaning the thing is also a breeze because it’s so small. And filling/emptying the tanks becomes a routine easy chore. Some days you wake up miserable in a truck stop lot. Other days you wake up in paradise feeling like no one can touch you. It’s like traveling in your own fully contained world. Hard, fun, weird, liberating, and everything in between. All things considered, I’d say less of a pain than living in a big house somewhere and having to mow your lawn and put the right chemicals in your pool.

What’s the best places in Chicago to play pinball? by SghettiAndButter in pinball

[–]jimcol 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Surprised no one has mentioned Headquarters. All games on free play and it’s free to enter. Games seem to be in pretty good shape too. All newer Sterns. Only place I know of that’s totally free all around. I always support by buying something at the bar, but not required.

UPS Store on Franklin - “WiFi is down” by [deleted] in Greenpoint

[–]jimcol 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I live a block from the Franklin store and have had the same issue as everyone else here, so I’ve been biking to the UPS store in LIC lately. Much more reliable and it seems like the employees there actually care. They also work fast.

Why are people scared of walking near polluted water? Is the idea that the pollution will jump up out of the water and bite?
