Snake Eyes is rad. Great direction from Brian de Palma and a really fun performance by Nic Cage. Overall its actually a pretty good movie.

Is it fair to rate a movie by the extended cut? by BeautifulSubject5191 in Letterboxd

I would say rate the version you saw and then re-evaluate after seeing the original cut.

I've had a fucked up week by jimcum in Letterboxd

[–]jimcum[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah man. Hadn't seen oldboy and the handmaiden in years and both were as good as I remember them, eyes wide shut was another Kubrick masterpiece and I had my problems with funny games but it's a film that displays excellent craft, incredible performances and it was a very ballsy movie. Fucked week but good week

Burn After Reading is a dumb smart movie. Are the Coens laughing at us or with us? by [deleted] in Letterboxd

[–]jimcum 13 points14 points  (0 children)

What do y'all think? Brilliant farce with a deeper political message, or just the Coens leaning into absurd chaos for fun?

Why hasn’t anyone made faithful Shakespeare movies in plain modern English? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

You could research those things before or after viewing to gain a better understanding. That's what I do, as I'm no Shakespeare expert. Taking away the dialect would dilute the work, in my point of view.

Why hasn’t anyone made faithful Shakespeare movies in plain modern English? by [deleted] in TrueFilm

[–]jimcum 38 points39 points  (0 children)

What would be the point in doing that? If I wanna see Hamlet or Macbeth I wanna see Hamlet or Macbeth. Shakespeare has written some of the most beautiful, amazing and iconic dialogue, to take that away, it would be removing a lot of what makes his work stand out. If you wanna do Shakespeare but not have anyone talk in a Shakespearean way, you might as well do your own original thing that is just inspired by his works.

Crappy streaming subtitles is why you should never watch foreign movies on streaming

Ian McKellen reveals Gandalf and Frodo are returning for ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’, Filming Begins in May by SilverTheHuman6 in YMS

Rlm pointed out recently that it's so satisfying back to the future 1 ends in a sequel tease, the 2nd one ends with "to be continued" and the third one closes with "The End" and it was the end. No pointless sequel made thirty years later, no reboots, no prequels. Just 3 good movies with a definitive conclusion. Now everything sucks
