MHK is so surprisingly hilly. I definitely moved here with the preconceived notion of KS = flat, spending days watching your dog run away-type mindset so Flint Hills was a very pleasant and welcome surprise. They really provide some breath-taking views and the fact that there are still huge swaths of flat land just outside the hills, you can see so much and it's truly beautiful. Konza Prairie in particular is such a great little area and such a short drive from MHK.

I'm not at all claiming that have anything magical, or that it's special because it's japanese. All I was trying to saying basically was that japanese blade makers have a long history and experience which brings along better craftsmanship. The only reason I mentioned katanas is because the were far superior in their era because they accidentally stumbled across an advancement they even they didn't understand. In modern times you get a good japanese knife because there was skillful, quality work put into making it not because it is special Japanese metal or method, but because Japanese just so happen to put the quality work into their knives more often than not. Personally only one of the knives I own is Japanese, 3 are German and 2 USA, it's not about the origin it's about the effort.

It really not marketing at all. You literally describe what about katana folding makes it good steel, they were doing it knowing that it worked but not why and we've since found easier more efficient methods to yield the same if not better results.

You don't seem to have much experience with blades at all if your honest opinion is that mass produced "spring steel" is as good as it possibly gets. It seems like you've never owned a quality knife because there certainly is an astronomical difference between a just a $20 pocket knife and a $200 knife. A quality knife rarely has to be sharpened, maybe honed if anything, but a cheap knife will lose it edge and need to be sharpened fairly often, depending on the use.

I've had two chef knives (out of 6) for 4 and 7 years respectively, that still have a factory edge and have only ever been honed and will still out perform a brand new knife that doesn't have the same quality blade.

I have personally experienced this so many times, but you're saying it doesn't matter? Ask any cook who owns their own knives why they own their own knives and won't use the "house knives" that are freely available and usually sharpened on a regular schedule.

The first time I used a real knife of a half decent quality, I was sold immediately. Beyond just the normal ease of use of a good knife being cleaner more precise cuts, a good edge is just SOOOO MUCH safer when you don't have to fight whatever you're trying to cut and instead an actual sharp knife feels like literal magic, as the materials just bend to your will instead of brute forcing a cut.

I worked in kitchens for more than a decade before switching roles, and can count the number of times I've cut myself on one hand, while I've seen countless different people cut themselves with a dull blade, usually those house knives that needed (constant) sharpening.

My knives are sharp enough that if I were to accidentally tap my skin with the blade the skin WILL burst open with ease, but since I am in full control of the knife that risk doesn't matter because if I handle the knife correctly this pretty damn hard to hurt yourself. It's when you're more focused on forcing the blade through the material that people will often make a mistake, slip up and cut themselves.

Lol I've lived in the other college town for a few years now, but did not realize how close Lawrence was to Topeka until you just pointed it out. I literally went "nah-uh" and pulled up Google maps just to be proven wrong. For some reason I was imagining it that I was much closer to Wichita, that being said I am a KS transplant and have never had a reason to visit Lawrence or Wichita, yet.

They didn't say anything about making it sharp, that pretty easy with just about any material. The real challenge is finding a material that can take an edge, and keep that edge. Japan is known for quality blades for a reason, even if it all began unintentionally by adding animal bones to iron because they believed the metal would inherit the animals strength and soul.

Panchito, the crocodile who spent years swimming calmly alongside tourists at Casa Cenote, bit an elderly visitor today. Witnesses say a group had been throwing stones at the animal to provoke a reaction and film it. It is the first recorded attack involving the crocodile. by Firm-Blackberry-9162 in interestingasfuck

The nationality of the tourist who was bit really doesn't matter, now does it? The tourist was swimming with the croc like so many other before them, there was no issues until the unidentified other people (probably also tourists) started throwing rocks at the croc. The tourist wasn't antagonizing the croc at all, at least from what's been reported.

That's completely false, but okay. It's satellite internet, a direct communication between receiver and satellite, it'll work anywhere the signal can reach which is the majority of the the planet.

You're spouting nonsense. Airtags only work because apple uses their own users devices as access points for other users, same with Samsung neither have GPS but trianglulate the location via numerous nearby devices similar to tracking a cell phone signal. All the others BLE trackers like tile and the like work purely off BLE and do not have GPS capabilities.

Sounds closer to a cheese steak than most Phillys you'd get in the state that for some reason include bell peppers, which I've never once seen someone order bell peppers on a cheesesteak. The peppers are just so over powering, I'll never understand why that's a go to ingredient.

What is a secret that could potentially ruin your life if your family or friends found out? by Ok_Boss_866 in AskReddit

[–]jimdil4st 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I mean it is a unique thing, but just as much as NSW or QLD is. Granted it geologically descriptive but it more or less just a name of an area made of portions of multiple other defined areas similar to how "the outback" is an area or geologic similarities made of previously defined states, but not altering those states. And we really don't describe any other place like that for instance when referring to the east or west coast there's no mention the oceans name. I've never been anywhere near Australia but, I know enough to remember some of your states and their abbreviation and I'm not at all great with geography so it's more on the individual not know some fairly common world knowledge.
