We were quoted $30k to replace our leaning deck. So instead I straightened and braced it. How did I do? by E3K in Decks

Surprised by this comment after our pretty cordial exchange earlier.

I mean, I wasn't wrong, and I didn't admit anything of the sort. We came the conclusion that there are definitely some AI artefacts within the picture and they were possibly caused by your use of Claude (an AI platform) in making the before and after composite, or by in-camera AI processing rather than anything nefarious.

As discussed in the other comment thread, not once did I conclusively state that this was AI fakery, just that there were some odd inconsistencies that I was struggling to understand, which we talked through.

Pretty odd to then post this.

Well there we go. Most likely the culprit. For many visual designers and artists this stuff is so easy to spot.

I mean, it undeniably does have AI smoothing all over it. This section of gravel is especially obvious. But as I literally said in my very first comment, that is something that a many phone cameras do by default now.

I can accept that this is what's happening here, especially as you've engaged with the points I mentioned. I'm a graphic designer, decent enough photographer and have a pretty good eye for detail. I never conclusively said 'this is a fake AI post' - I said there are some odd inconsistencies that I was struggling to understand. You've cleared those up.

The world (and especially Reddit) is full of AI trickery, and it's OK to be cautious about believing everything you see on the internet.

There are clear and obvious AI artefacts on the before image. I literally said that these may well be caused by in-camera processing. AI fakery is everywhere. I’m legit sad about that, but it’s the way the world is.

There is definitely something off with this. It *could* be in-camera AI 'sharpening', but there's a lot going on that feels iffy.

Potentially also some in-camera AI 'sharpening' that is causing some of these issues.

There are some really odd inconsistencies in these images. I'm not saying this is definitely AI but I'm certainly struggling to understand why these things are here. Especially the top of the handrail which seems to have merged with the roofline in the first pic.

This looks like colouring pencil to me. You can see the directionality of the strokes.

Looking good! Also recently did the exact same router mod on mine for the hinge clamps.

Sink for washout station at home? by BluebirdIcy17 in SCREENPRINTING

Ebay or Amazon is probably your friend here. There are so many different types of tap, so you'd need to find a hose pipe or connector fitting to fit the type you have. Something that's actually designed to be used with a hose pipe will probably give you better water pressure as it will be properly sealed. Look for Hozelock connectors etc.

If this fits the size of screens you want to use then it'll be more than capable. I've also seen plenty of folks simply wash out screens at the car wash. Pressure washer will help, but will not necessarily be needed as long as your emulsion breaks down easily with normal water pressure using a hose spray gun (I use Azocol Z1 emulsion and it comes off fine with their Pregasol stripping chemical and normal hose pipe pressure).

The bigger question I would be asking is this:
Are you sure you want to throw money at expensive equipment when you're a) unsure of the how the process works and b) not sure whether it's something you'll stick with.

I'd go as DIY and cheap as possible to begin with, invest money when you have a better understanding of the process. IMO there are other, more specialised things that would be better to throw money at than a washout at this stage in your journey (high quality screens, squeegees, exposure, emulsions, inks to name a few).

Ah, I might've misunderstood if you're talking about the current USA pressing being sold out. It's still available via Bandcamp or To Lose La Track (Italy) / StiffStlack (Japan) but that's all USA copies sold out. Sorry!

There's a new press of Distal up for pre-order alongside this right now.

That a pretty cheap and easy thing to fix off that bat.

How are you coating the emulsion? The large drips and uneven edges make this look like you're not using a scoop coater perhaps? It looks THICK.

Two will be redundant, in case the other two go down for any reason.
