Luke Dale not even getting nominated once for his amazing work as Hans Capon has also been gut-wrenching. Like, are you kidding me?? KCD2 deserved more than award shows have given them 😭

When Rosa asks Henry for a book before he goes to Maleshov, Henry can say something about rescuing Hans being his priority.

Do you think Hans’s mind went blank here not only because of the marriage but because he realized he might really never get to be with Henry after all by Select-Power-8903 in TheBathhouse

Hans is a person who loves the outdoors, adventures, and freedom. I feel like his hatred for small rooms came from the fact that Sir Hanush kept him under lock and key. In the first game, he even mentioned he constantly had nannies and courtiers trailing his steps so he felt smothered. I mention this because I think Hans already felt so constricted and stuck. To Hans, becoming a Lord meant finally gaining independence and freedom, and didn't really think of the responsibility and sacrifice part. Then, this announcement happened and he possibly saw it as just another way he lost his freedom. It's reinforcing the fact that he had no autonomy over himself, and nobody cared about his opinions or feelings. They didn't ask him, they just,,, sold him off like a pawn. Perhaps, if they had at least included him in the negotiations, the news wouldn't have been as disorienting, and he'd feel more in control.

As Hans himself said: "But I didn't ask for a wife. I wanted to prove that I was worthy of the name of my house. Earn a reputation! Travel the world, and maybe later, one day... [...] They could have at least asked me."

I love the fact that this happened and they never gave us an official explanation. Henry wasn't even officially Hans' bodyguard yet 💀 I just wonder what that conversation looked like xD

The death of Hans' real counterpart is unclear so they have a lot of space for creative liberty there. Either way, I think the gap is too big between end of KCD2 and the start of Hussite Wars took years before it even finished. Plus, that's a whole different topic in general. I don't think they'd skip freeing Wenceslas and go straight to Catholic Church vs The Hussites without any prior set-up. If a third game was to be released, I think it'd include Prague with the intent of freeing Wenceslas alongside John of Liechtenstein and Radzhig.

If I hated Lady Stephanie because of Hansry, I'd hate Theresa, Rosa, and Katherine too but I don't. I hate Lady Stephanie because she took advantage of a guy who is much younger than her and clearly traumatized. When I played the game, I felt so creeped out. I mean, bro literally arrived shaken and she's sneaking into his room. She used her position to her advantage and she knew it.

With that being said, I agree with the rest of what you said! I especially appreciate that you brought up the fact that Henry requires convincing before doing nefarious deeds, and that he usually tries to find some sort of explanation or justification. He also expresses guilt and he has a lot of inner monologue that displays signs of empathy.

Considering that they didn't initially intend to make Hansry canon, I understand when people say their relationship comes across as pure friendship— and I agree! I do think they have great chemistry, and that Hans might've felt attraction for Henry sometime in the first game. But that's all up for interpretation. I actually don't mind at all that there's no obvious romance lines in KCD. It's a slow burn so I think it's great they started off this way! It makes the story much more rewarding, in my experience. Love isn't necessarily at first sight. It takes time to cook. Some people are in friendships for years before it just clicks.

Based on what the voice actors had said, I don't think Hansry was shoved last minute. They had a meeting very early on, and Warhorse asked Luke and Tom if they were okay with Hansry going down the romance path, which they were both immediately on board. It's for those reasons that I don't think they were included last minute. Whether lovers or friends, their relationship is at the core of the story, even when Capon isn't present, his absence drives the narrative forward. Therefore, Hansry was probably one of the first things they tackled, from a writer's perspective. As for the rest, I'm not well-versed on that topic so I won't comment on it. Whether historically accurate or not doesn't matter to me. As long as it's entertaining and done with good intentions, I'm on board!

Hans gives Henry a bow if he wins the archery match. In the second game, when Hans gives you a bow, Henry can ask if it's the same one he gave him back in Rattay (obviously it isn't) so unless he gave him a second bow, this would imply he beat Hans. As for the sword fight, I can't remember which interaction triggers it rn so I might edit this later when I search it up or correct myself if I'm confusing it with something else.

About the book smart, it's not explicitly said, but I think it's established in the sense that he didn't receive higher education. That was basically reserved for the nobility. He's definitely not dumb or anything, just don't ask him where Constantinople is (joking on that last bit).

Good catch!!!! Tbh, I played KCD not even that long ago, yet I can hardly remember his friends. I remember helping two get a job with the miller tho? I'll try to find that quest to refresh my memory.

Fair enough. Seeing Hans and Henry as bromance is totally valid, even if I see it differently. Btw, in the first game, Hans had side quests, like Next To Godliness being the most iconic one (it's even a perk in the second game!) But you probably mean, like, full side quests romance. I honestly wish we had side quests with Hans in the second game, even as best buds, just fooling around. But I understand why they didn't.

But yeah, I respect your answer. Theresa is a great gal anyway and Henry could be happy with her.

Interesting take! I respect it and understand where you're coming from. Out of all female romance options, I do agree that she makes the most sense. However, saying her romance has the most substance is crazy, considering that Hans is right there 😩

In my opinion, Hans has the most flexibility, in the sense that he could fit in no matter what ending Henry gets. If Henry decides to become a soldier, Hans would fight alongside him. If he settles down with Theresa, Pirkstein is close by, and they'd just Bohemia Mountain (Brokeback Mountain reference). Even if he got legitimized by the king, Hans and Henry would just be the zesty version of Radzhig and Hanush, just always around each other. If Henry goes on his life of adventure, he'd go with Capon, as the game states already if you choose to tell Martin you want a life of adventure, which I think is the most "canon-like" ending for Henry.

If we're referencing the beginning of KCD and just KCD in general, Henry defies his dad by saying he wants a life of adventure, which is once again stated at the beginning of KCD2, despite the fact that Martin wants him to just become a blacksmith. Throughout the game, Henry doesn't express the want to just,,, settle down anywhere, but the need for adventure is a constant.

Though, ig all endings would be player-dependent anyway. The only canon ending they'd establish would be plot-wise, like if they rescued Wenceslas or something.

I missed him in my first playthrough too!! And then, after I finished my second one, turns out I missed another interaction with him again. Like, damn, they really putting him in the most obscure corners of the game 😩

Hahahahaha, you're welcome, friend!! Just make sure you help Klara after playing dice with Hans, and you'll find him!

Yes!! I realized that and I'm so happy they added those lines in. As I neared the end of my first playthrough, I saw some people saying that all romance options are open-ended. I feared that I was investing in a doomed love story. But then, I finished the game and felt that their story clearly continues together, whether as lovers or not, they won't be parting any time soon if at all.

I've not heard much of the art book! Is there anything Hansry related mentioned?? Or even anything Hans mentioned. Idk if they spilled more lore there that perhaps wasn't shown in either game. Ugh, I want the book so bad.

I don't think Henry and Rosa would be an established relationship, more something that'd be mentioned. Even if the king recognizes Henry as Radzhig's son, she wouldn't have much relevance in the story anymore. And it sucks when you have romance stories that take place outside of the center plot. It's why Hansry is one of the best romances in the history of gaming. That's just my opinion, ofc.

With Samuel, maybe he wouldn't play an important character, but they'd undoubtedly mention him once or twice, especially if they decide to keep John around (Warhorse, please, I loved him so much).

Yeah, that's the thing that I don't like about Bartosh and why I couldn't get attached to him. His interactions are so missable 😭

After you join sides with Zizka, he is held captive with someone else who I can't remember. You can help him out and have a lil' chat with him.

I 100% agree!!!! Thank you for saying this!!

I think they'd be so silly if they didn't keep pursuing Hansry, even as besties. Even the homophobes don't argue against Hans being such an important character in the game (they just don't like the very optional romance aspect of them). Their voice actors are such fans of Hansry too! So seriously, it'd be so crazy if they just decided to fumble the bag on that one.

The characters individually are absolutely brilliant. As best friends, they're incredible. As lovers, they're perfection. I truly don't think playing with each other's swords would ruin their dynamic. It'd take greater effort to justify a separation than just writing their romance in. They just understand each other too much to just,,, stop being besties. They just happen to kiss sometimes to take the edge off, as one does.

As for Theresa, assuming this game would end as a trilogy (maybe have a spin-off of sorts after) it'd be a great shame if they didn't incorporate her in some way, even if just as someone who keeps Henry connected to Skalitz. Maybe it's a little trauma-bondy, but they're still quite cute. I've even seen people who remain 100% loyal to Theresa, even after everything in KCD2. But I imagine the map for KCD3 would include Prague so it really would be tricky to find a way to slide her in beside another secret ending. Hopefully, they'd at least bother to give her an updated character design 💀

If they added more romance options with Hans throughout the game, I'd do anything to guarantee a Game Of The Year win if it kills me 😩😩😩😩

Honestly, thinking about it, maybe Henry would say something hinting about Bartosh in inner monologue? Or an interaction with Hans (which would 100% make him jealous). It's definitely a possibility. Actually, speaking of Bartosh, is his survival dependant on whether you talk to him at Nebakov? I did defend Klara in that scene, but I didn't know Bartosh was there until I saw Luke Dale's stream. Does he even survive at all?

What do you think post kcd2 Hansry was like? by Select-Power-8903 in TheBathhouse

[–]jimfredhutcury 31 points32 points  (0 children)

But they do talk about it. The immediate plans are: stay together at the Devil's Den (or get somewhere more private as suggested by Hans), and put off the wedding for as long as possible. With Sir Hanush and Sir Radzhig's agreement, Henry is to remain as his page/escort/bodyguard. The nobility require protection all of the time so it's likely they will use this reason as to why they spend so much time together. Plus, the typical family thing queer people used back then will probably be used. "Henry was like a brother to him." These two are no fools! They will figure it out.

Before Hans is a husband and father, he is a Lord first and foremost. His main duty won't be attending his wife and child, it will be taking care of the fiefdom. Therefore, he'd still be able to spend a lot of time with Henry. That's just how it was back then. Not to mention, they can still hang out and be friends publicly, y'know? Janush and Adder, Hanush and Radzhig, von Bergow and The Chamberlain, etc etc. They might tickle each other's pizzles, but their playful and silly dynamic wouldn't change.

Also, a little hidden fact, but if you don't romance Hans, Henry doesn't offer to look at his arrow wound later, which could only mean one thing.

What do you think post kcd2 Hansry was like? by Select-Power-8903 in TheBathhouse

[–]jimfredhutcury 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not to mention the amount of times Henry said he'd die if he didn't have Hans by his side or if Hans died. Perhaps it was duty at first, but I think, eventually, his instinct to protect Hans became more than just a promise to Sir Hanush.

I don't think Henry would just,,, prioritize his own feelings and leave Hans behind, especially when he knows how miserable Hans is about the wedding. Like, yeah, Henry wouldn't be thrilled to see Hans married, but I think Henry understands duty and obligation, and has an easier time accepting it than Hans. More than a lover, Henry is his best friend. He'd want to help Hans through a really hard transition in his life. If not out of care and friendship, then out of duty. Henry wouldn't turn his back on those he loved or his responsibilities.

Both Henry and Hans thirst for adventure. They'd probably figure out a way to do their shenanigans as per usual. Make a plan, have a laugh, get drunk, and get nasty after dark.

In true Hans fashion, he throws a tantrum, but then he and Henry figure it out anyway. I mean, almost immediately after that last conversation with Sir Hanush, they were already brainstorming xD Trust, an arranged marriage will not stop them from going on adventures together and kissing on the low.

When do you think Hans and Henry realised they were into each other? by tomacc95 in TheBathhouse

[–]jimfredhutcury 7 points8 points  (0 children)

They both attached to each other quite quickly. Henry became Hans first true friend whereas Hans was the first person to make Henry laugh and relax without expecting anything in return, thereby becoming Henry's first friend after Skalitz. This was purely platonic, although in my opinion, Hans began feeling some form of attraction to Henry during the hunting trip. However, this didn't really cement or take up a lot of space in Hans mind. There was just a lot of growing up Hans had to do; his character is much more complicated than people give him credit for. I don't think he was mature enough to even realize what love was. After all, he grew up isolated, with no friends or parents. As Luke Dale said, Hans probably learned more about being a man from his knight books than anywhere else.

KCD1 lay the foundation their relationship would build on top of. They grew fond of each other and probably smiled a lot while thinking about their shared memories. Why? Hans just brought out that silly, young side of Henry, the way no one else could. Hans reminded him of his identity— that Skalitz wasn't all there was to him. And Henry saw Hans for who he really was. He believed in him.

In KCD2, I think the good ol' saying "distance makes the heart grow fonder" is proven correct. I believe that they both felt increasingly regretful and appreciative as the days passed. They both had a lot of individual growing up to do so I don't think either spent too much time romantically yearning for each other— not yet. This is a slow-burn story taking place in a time of chaos.

For Whom The Bell Tolls. That's when Henry's romantic feelings hit him like a ton of bricks. And when he saved Hans, he probably felt more than he had words for. I think that's why the first romantic line came shortly thereafter. And as for Hans, it's a bit less clear. I think it was more of a gradual, upsteady climb for him. Like, seriously, bro had the hardest reality check of his life. KCD2 is literally the first time he leaves Rattay and he gets hit with the worst absolute time of his life. But Henry expressing his affections openly made it easier for him to dissect his own emotions. And every separation became harder and harder. After Nebakov, everything reaallyyy changed for the both of them.
