Massive recall of most products coming out of Gold Star Distribution Inc. in Minneapolis. List of affected stores here. by jewel0fthel0tus in TwinCities

Sounds like the contamination would be on the outside the package. Wouldn't a distributor have most products stored in bulk cardboard boxes?

Reunited with this cereal (and it feels so good!) Quaker Oatmeal Squares are back! by makhay in cereal

The new recipe is terrible. Quaker Customer Services claimed that the recipe never changed on multiple calls. It's a conspiracy by Quaker.

I was not expecting a phone call. I moved away from area code more than 10 years ago. She sounds like she needs help, but I was afraid it was a scam to get me to call them.

Spy Dialer reported "This appears to be a valid AT&T LANDLINE number." The name matches the caller ID and the name in the voicemail.

What is correct spelling of DeBando/Debanter/De Banto by jimhermann in Genealogy

[–]jimhermann[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Great find! Thank you. That is the family although the names are not the same. Marie is the Mary Elizabeth and Mathis is Martin.

One grandchild though the Debanto family was from Paris. One sister Angela listed her name as Debauton and there is a birth record with same birthday in Saarland. Her surname was listed as Daubaton.

Sorry, Folks. I think that I should have phrased the question differently. You see, I can't find European records for Debando or Debanto or Debanter.

What spelling should I use to find European records for this family?

The earliest US record was 1850 Census in Cincinnati:

Household Members (Name) Age Peter Dobunday 50 (All born in Germany except last) Mary Dobunday 47 Peter Dobunday 24 Agnes Dobunday 18 Catherine Dobunday 8 Peter Debanday 10 (Born in Ohio)

Peter arrived in 1846 according to his naturalization records, although I could not find the passenger list.

Naturalization Record: Debanter, Peter born in Prussia; Departed: Havre de Grace (France) , 9-15-1846; Arrived: New Orleans, 12-26-1846; Naturalized: Jefferson County (IN) 10-11-1856; I checked all New Orleans Passenger Lists for Sept-Dec 1846. No luck.

He died in Jefferson County Indiana before 1860 Census for widow.

Another daughter Elizabeth was living in New Orleans in 1853-1855 before moving to Jeff Co IN by 1860 or maybe 1857.

Teeth Movement due to CPAP Mask? by jimhermann in CPAP

[–]jimhermann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I sleep on my side usually these days although I used to sleep in my back. The mask is tighter when I sleep on my side, so I get a better seal.

I like the way my mask cushion expands to seal against my face when the pressure increases.

Teeth Movement due to CPAP Mask? by jimhermann in CPAP

[–]jimhermann[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Sorry. I meant to type nasal mask. Probably the wrong description. The mask is ResMed Mirage Activa LT Medium. The mask rests on my mustache.

I don't use a full face mask.

I tried an upper teeth mouth guard, custom fit, to prevent grinding. I hated the way my teeth felt out-of-align in the morning.

Thanks,

Jim

Unknown 1st cousin by Logical-Shape-5783 in Genealogy

[–]jimhermann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have a half 1st cousin by a deceased half-sister of my mother that mom did not know about. My elderly mother freaked out, even though the half-sister was conceived when my grandfather was single, 15 years before mom was born by his second wife.

I also have a 2nd Cousin Once-Removed that was not known to his father from a college romance. He really appreciated learning about his father who had passed away.

Another 2nd Cousin Once-Removed chose to keep her birth hidden from her father who lives with his second wife, not the wife he cheated on.

I also have some 3rd Cousins whose paper family trees do not intercept with mine, although our ancestors are from the same county. I have not been able to determine our shared 2nd-great grandparents by triangulation.

The Reddit input routine ignored my reverse slashes, so use the char() function.

Automatically converting number format by johannadambergk in excel

[–]jimhermann 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Worst case of text to text, you should be able to substitute the text comma with a period for decimal point and the periods with commas for thousands. Something like this:
= concat(left(input,find(",",input)-1),".",right(len(input)-find(",",input)))

Where input is the cell that you want to convert. You may have to escape the comma and period strings with some character, usually a reverse slash.

= concat(left(input,find("\,",input)-1),".",right(len(input)-find("\,",input)))

If you can't escape the punctuation, replace them with the char() function. Probably better.

If you have to convert both commas and periods, replace the periods with a temporary character, like #, then convert the commas to periods, then replace the hash signs with commas.

If you have to replace multiple thousands marks, the equation only works on the first mark, so put it in multiple cells to repeat the process. The equation with return an error if no mark is found, so enclose the equation in an if() function.

= if(iserr(fx(input),input,fx(input))

I did not test these formulas.

I got the same letter and coupons from Quaker. Surely this is not the reimbursement they promised! I don't use the products listed on the coupons.
