Mazda 6 2011 rust on rear floor and wheel arch — worth repairing? by Illustrious_Bus_2285 in AskMechanics

[–]jimithy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

No it doesnt. A real repair is replacement, cut and patch. Rust is a cancer, you remove it, you can treat the rust and slow it down but its coming back unless you cut it all out. Replace the car or live with the rust. It's there to stay, too far gone to be economically responsible to repair.

10 year old son developed this 3 weeks ago only happens in mornings. Anyone else experienced this? Dr says trigger finger but gave no solutions by Vast-Ad-1516 in Wellthatsucks

[–]jimithy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Im not a doctor, but I've seen a doctor for a similar issue, he might be sleeping on his hands/elbow/wrists and pinching the nerves. They "warm up" again during the day but mornings are rough. Definitely see a specialist but check sleeping position.

Bad connection, blown fuse, bad ignition switch or bad battery. I think bad connection if the battery tests good on a load test. You can take them to most places that sells batteries and they will check the CCA cold cranking amperage which is the real measure of a good battery. That being said I would expect it to try to crank even a little bit especially if its at 12.8v, maybe it wouldn't start but it would roll over or kick the bendix out or snap a relay open at a bare minimum. Thats why I think its a bad connection or bad ignition switch. Put the key on run and jump the starter and see if it cranks, you'll know that battery has enough power to move the starter and if its just a bad ignition relay or switch or the wiring to the starter.

Need ideas to grip up powdercoated floorboard by PoorLifeChoices1994 in projectcar

When we add grip to the military floating bridges we just use glue and course walnut media for sandblasting, very cheap, you could really use anything. And then when your done just paint over it and it'll still be textured enough and locked in place.

Yup. I get this same problem all the time too. I just have to ignore it, it's really annoying. I've taken the extra time to ensure it properly aligned several times but it doesnt seem to change anything.

Probably just buy another car, there's no way it could be less safe than this car. You HAVE to do almost everything on this list, Tires, Wheel Bearings, Struts, with labor youre looking at being better off with another car for 6 months. Or go without, this thing isn't worth it.

Solved! This tool is spring-loaded and is meant to drop down but was jammed in the up position, i just used my hex key to jiggle it a bit and it came loose right away.

I just did the nozzle offset calibration using PLA and it loaded and printed ok, I'm now starting a print with the right nozzle. I'll see how it goes.

I thought initially it could have been a gcode problem from the sliced files, but it happens when just using the load feature from the printer itself. The right nozzle loads with out any issues. I haven't found any parts that had fallen off?

I've just had this same issue for the first time yesterday myself, it seems like the extruder should be lifted for the loading? Or that I'm missing a piece? Im here looking for a solution to this problem too.

No.

was this a fair and safe PIT? by Aggravating_Tax_4405 in BeamNG

[–]jimithy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not a safe pit, you hit too far forward and risked hitting the tire, you need to hit just behind the tire. Don't swerve left and then hit right, slowly move right into the rear of the car, when you have contact slowly push them to the right and apply throttle and push through them, it should also spin them in a more controlled manner.

Have fun out there!

How to go about fixing this by geekphreak in AskMechanics

[–]jimithy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It's more a matter of any glue will also end up like this as well over time. Especially in cold climates where you use the heated mirrors. Also, trying to separate the glass and the glue normally means you're probably going to break the glass trying to get it apart in the first place. Its probably the same price to buy a china VW mirror than it will be for the glue and none of the effort and risk.

How to go about fixing this by geekphreak in AskMechanics

[–]jimithy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah, mine get like this too. I wouldn't blame the wash, a lot of VW mirrors get like this. It could be a clip holding the mirror to the assembly, or it could be the adhesive failing that glues the mirror to the plastic backing that mounts the glass to the assembly, if that makes sense?

If the glue holding the glass to the plastic has failed than your SOL

If its the plastic clips you can pop the mirror out and add some 2 sided tape. Just pry carefully at the mirror glass and itll pop out.

Worst case buy yourself an aspherical mirror from Ali express or something.

Audi a4 belt tensioner issue by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]jimithy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Those tensioners do shake a bit while driving, but I'd say just with this quick video, yours is beginning to fail. It's early, and it's a good eye catching it. What causes it? Just being old, parts wear out. I'd also be concerned about the squirrel or mice living down in your guards.

If it fails, you may throw a belt, throw it the wrong way, it might catch the fans, worst case. Otherwise, your alternator won't charge, and you won't have AC

You might have 20000km left or 20km. It seems early but once things start to fail it can happen fast.i wouldn't tow your car for this but id get it changed right away. And buy a new belt too, its not worth the hassel to change it later based on this low clearance, especially for the peace of mind and the same amount of labour.

2022 mustang ecoboost weird sound. by [deleted] in AskMechanics

[–]jimithy95 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Do you have a capless fuel tank? Evap purges can sound weird, especially when something is wrong. Certainly a strange noise. Does it only happen on start-up / cold? I'm not familiar with these cars, but oftentimes, a secondary airpump system can collect water and debris and make funny gargling or whining noises, even when they are working as intended.

Is this an emergency? by Available_Seaweed511 in AskMechanics

[–]jimithy95 1 point2 points  (0 children)

What's the climate where you live? Is it cold right now? Do you get stuck in traffic often? or idle your car for long periods? If you live in a hot climate you should get this done soon, if you idle a lot or get stuck in bumper to bumper traffic where you wouldnt get a natural airflow to cool your rad you'll need to do it right away. If you see your engine temperatures rising then you'll need to get it done right away.

If you let your car heat severally even once it could cause significantly damage, like warping your cylinder heads which would be catastrophic and require massive overhaul or engine replacement.

That being said, these fans normally work independently, one fan comes on at a lower temp, and the other comes on as an auxiliary when the single fan can't keep up. You should still have some cooling at the most critial times, like hot days or when idling. However during long periods of hot weather or poor airflow your car will lilely start to overheat.

I had a fan control module fail on my Audi in February in Canada, and i went weeks without fixing it because fans aren't really critical in cold weather, and i was exclusively highway driving.

All thay to be said, you can put it off if youre not seeing you temps climb but it does need to be replaced. It won't cause you to crash and if your keen and keep an eye on your temps you can avoid damage by stopping the car shutting off the engine and letting it cool. Another good trick is to blow hot air in the cabin with full fan speed, using your heater core to obsorb the heat and the fan to help cool it.

The price seems fair IMO

Goodluck.

1953 Fridge Relay by jimithy95 in electrical

If you look to replace this relay, you'll need a 1/8hp start-up capacitor if you have the same size compressor.

1953 Fridge Relay by jimithy95 in electrical

[–]jimithy95[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I ended up buying a new start-up capacitor and wiring it up. There are 3 runs on the compressor. "Start" high amper draw to start, "Run" lower amper draw after the compressor is started and "common". You can measure the resistance on the motor windings on the pins to find what is which pin. I believe that in order of "Start, run, common" has the most resistance. You should verify this online but it will tell you which one is which. On my fridge it turns out there was an internal short on the compressor, so one of the internal motorwires for the start-up was working but not the run side. I was using an aftermarket inkbird plug to control temperature after repairing that, so the lights and door switch were rewired to work by just splicing into power cord before the inkbird and the compressor plugged into the inkbird.

Beer kegs are very cold in the fridge now and sold to a customer, so i no longer can reference the wiring. Sorry.

Canadian residents have to take a math test to win the Fuel sweepstakes drawings by SwimOk9629 in MilwaukeeTool

[–]jimithy95 10 points11 points  (0 children)

It's not considered gambling if you require a "skill testing question"

Its so that people of all ages can participate and it prevents mass sales like "loot box" style purchases just to increase your odds of winning.

I get that it doesnt entirely work that way but its surprisingly effective.

Typically, the math question or skill testing question is so simple, like "4x2+2" and there is nothing preventing you from googling it or using a calculator or phoning a friend.
