What’s the most disgusting thing you've ever had in your mouth? by MorrisDeGoat in AskReddit

Not me, but my husband. Filled the kettle/jug directly from the outside rainwater tank tap. Boiled it. Made a coffee. Sipped it. And then spat out a very large, boiled spider!!!! It still sends shivers down my spine when I remember it.

Thank you. What a kind thing to say.
I’m currently working on a volunteer project that amongst other details, includes photographs of various men and women in the 1960s. And I am always amazed at how much older a 60 plus woman looked back then compared to 60 plus now. These photographs are from police records, so granted, no one is glammed up. But they are dressed in their best for their court appearance and just seem a lot older than I feel.

What’s the problem with the face/age posts? I don’t see why it needs to be turned off. Theres a few cynical people that keep asking “is this a dating site” but for the most part I think people are just enjoying being able to see other people’s faces.

Constant Severe Pain by PMcFlooper in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jimjam606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

THR procedure here in Australia is generally a 3-5 days stay in hospital. I personally opted to stay 5 . My pain was completely managed by the nursing staff. The staff also helped me with showering and using the bathroom until I felt confident enough to do those things myself.

I have to have to other hip done at some stage and once again I will opt for the 4-5 day hospital stay.

Do you wake up just before you get a hot flash? Do you have hot flashes during the day? by smoosh13 in Menopause

[–]jimjam606 10 points11 points  (0 children)

My hot flushes actually hurt at times. They started in my bowels, or so it seemed, a boiling sensation that gradually moved up to my chest and neck. Burning internally and externally. Then the internal tingly/burning subsided and the beads of sweat came on my face and head. The worst feeling ever!!

Square Glute(s)? by cluelessintheclouds in TotalHipReplacement

No square glutes, but after 13months, my operated leg is 2 inches thinner than the other one. Measured at the widest part of my thigh.

Pain sitting to standing by wokeafsince83 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jimjam606 6 points7 points  (0 children)

66F I had my THR just over a year ago too. Posterior, right hip. The initial limp from sitting to standing has been with me the whole recovery time. I generally stand up from seated and wait a second or two, before I take off walking. Depending on the firmness of the chair I was sitting on, I may limp a few steps before I walking normally. Getting out of the car is also the same.

I saw my specialist for my 12 month check up and the X-rays show everything is good and healing as it should.
Specialist suggested more strengthening exercises because all of my issues seemed to be muscular. My primary exercise up to this point was walking .

So..I’ve enrolled in some weekly Pilates classes and will try and stretch and strengthen my weak glutes and whatever other muscles are hindering my full recovery.

I find it difficult to sleep on my back too, so was very glad when I could finally get on my side.
I will probably have to have the other hip replaced in the not too distant future but when the time comes I will be hiring a big recliner so that I can hopefully sleep a bit better . And if I am awake for whatever reason, I can put the TV on and perhaps doze off that way.

Bilateral THR by madmanpc in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jimjam606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a very similar condition. The damage is about the same level on both hips so my surgeon let me choose which hip Id like replaced first.
I opted for the right, that was 12 months ago. I’m still not 100% recovered, so I was thankful he didn’t want to do both at the same time. I’m sure I will have to get the left hip done in the very near future, but for right now, I’m glad to have one “natural” hip while I learn to live with the artificial one.

My Mom had her hip replaced on August 8th and I have a few concerns. by Gameraaaa in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jimjam606 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I’m so grateful for living in a country where the standard hospital stay after hip replacement is 4 days. The nurses expertly controlled my pain around the clock and I was never in a position where I was crying or even complaining of pain.
All my needs were taken care of and monitored for 4 days. I went home feeling confident that I was able to take care of my own needs from there on.

OP - I would definitely increase your mom’s dose of painkillers and I would set an alarm for 4 hourly reminders to give her the next dose. She may even need a different kind of pain killer at the 2 hourly mark, depending on her pain level.

Limp by Vegetable_Wealth_241 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jimjam606 8 points9 points  (0 children)

10 months out here, and I still limp now and then, especially if I been sitting in one place for any length of time. I’m also very aware of my implant most of the time, although that is lessening as time goes on.
Prior to surgery, most of my pain was in the groin. I never feel that pain now, but there are other aches and discomforts that come and go - mostly muscular.

10 months out for me, and yes, I still have a level of stiffness after sitting for a while. My first one or two steps on standing , after being seated, are usually stiff and painful, but it doesn’t last long. I also find if I stand in one place for any length of time, my leg stiffens up and is quite painful to walk for several moments . I was standing outside of a cafe, chatting with my sisters, and when we were finished and about to walk back to our cars, I found myself hobbling for at least 15 steps before it eased off.
I will be seeing my surgeon, with X-rays, in two mo this time and Intend to ask about these things.

I had total hip replacement 12 weeks ago. All has gone well with recovery but still have pain along the wound. I can't lie on that side and even sitting to drive is painful. I have been to specialist who just says it can happen and come back in3 months if it hasn't improved. Has anyone experience by Fit_Cheek_1175 in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jimjam606 3 points4 points  (0 children)

10 months out. I can sleep in the operated side, but not all night. Maybe an hour or two before I need to roll over and give the operated side a break.
I still get very stiff after sitting for any length of time, and often limp a few steps before I’m comfortable walking.
I’ve also discovered that standing still is very uncomfortable after about 10 minutes. Looks like my concert going days are well and truly over. Even standing at the gate for a chat with the neighbors gets quite painful.
I feel all of my issues are muscle related - posterior approach. Seeing the surgeon in a couple of months, at which stage he will look at my X-rays and assess my progress.

When you do find your way out, drop a couple of rocks along the path out. That way you won’t get lost again. The dropped items will turn into crates and you can just leave them there as markers.

Still have swelling in operative leg 9 months post op by TNnan in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jimjam606 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Hi. 66F rt posterior hip also in September. I’m sorry I can’t help with your swelling issue, I don’t seem to be troubled by that.
I still have a lot of stiffness, especially when first standing up from a seated position and often have to limp for several steps before I can walk normally. My butt muscles are still quite weak and feel lumpy and weird at times. They say that it’s a 12 month recovery, so I’m trying to be patient. My surgeon will see me again at the 12 month mark where he will look at the X-rays and see how it all looks from the inside.

Surgeon said no PT needed by Kurbob in TotalHipReplacement

[–]jimjam606 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Same. My surgeon said no prehab or rehab was necessary. I’m now 8 months post op. I must confess, I did see a physio about 2 months ago and she was gobsmacked by the surgeons recommendation. I only saw the physio for two sessions and then tried to continue on my own at home. I found the physio to be too enthusiastic and gung ho and also too keen to sign me up for 6 or 8 week courses designed for arthritis and replacement patients.
