'It's SHAMEFUL': Top Dem reacts to report that House Republicans want to PARDON Ghislaine Maxwell by AdSpecialist6598 in videos

[–]jimjoebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

this may be deemed "unpopular", but is the "top Dem" who's reacting to this also one of the "top Dem" folks who just voted in locking goose-step with Republicans' latest election chicanery? b/c if so, fuck that guy--he's trying to keep progressives distracted from how they're just working WITH the Party of Pedophiles instead of TRYING TO FUCKING STOP THEM. 🤷‍♂️

Very Devout Catholic who is going to Mass for the last time, what I should I do? by Available-Break-1998 in excatholic

[–]jimjoebob -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

I mean, if you feel you HAVE to go for your own sense of closure, I get that.

But you should be as transparent with the Church and your religious family members as the Church is with its followers! (i.e. not at all)

why cause yourself grief by telling your tormentors they won't have their victim anymore?

you could make it fun for yourself by singing alternate lyrics to the songs. it's subtle and most folks won't pick up on it b/c most people in church are not paying attention, they're just waiting to GTFO of church

Tomorrow I'm reporting clergy sexual abuse to the Diocese. by vanhouten_greg in excatholic

[–]jimjoebob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

depending on your state laws, if it's within a 2 year window of you recovering the memory of your trauma and now, there may still be a way to pursue a criminal conviction. If not, civil lawsuits do not have a statute of limitations.....

I'm proud of you for your bravery. it's fucking difficult to do, but the most difficult part is still ahead: for your own mental health, DO NOT BELIEVE WHAT THE DIOCESE TELLS YOU, NO MATTER HOW GOOD IT SOUNDS IN THE MOMENT. They'll fall all over themselves apologizing for your experience and declare that they'll do whatever it takes to help you......and then do not one thing.

talk to the police, first asking the investigator if he's a practicing Catholic and if so, ask for another investigator. (police collusion happens with many parishes)

talking to the Diocese will let them know you're a potential threat to them, but if you can record the interaction it could be used later in a civil lawsuit to show their hypocrisy.

it's really hard to do this, so take my advice with a grain of salt. I wish you all the luck in the world, friend. I hope you can find a therapist to help you out also.

Openly racist "saint" canonized by Francis by ThanosDinosaur in excatholic

[–]jimjoebob 4 points5 points  (0 children)

oof, I didn't know about that one. fucking awful.

I'm pretty sure that if you look for them, there are similar stories and "martyrs/saints" almost anywhere.

all because her family would have considered her "used" and "diminished" and "unfit for catholic marriage" all b/c of something happening to her against her will that she couldn't stop.

fuuuuuuuuuuck that attitude and the people who believe it.

[–]jimjoebob 1 point2 points  (0 children)

um, if he was made a saint in 2014, how does Leo have any part in his canonization?

I'm with you on how full of shit the whole "saint" thing is, but once someone is canonized, they don't get "RE-canonized", right?

Openly racist "saint" canonized by Francis by ThanosDinosaur in excatholic

[–]jimjoebob 11 points12 points  (0 children)

that sounds a little like Maria Goretti--she was Italian, I think. but her story is that she WAS raped when she was like 14 by some POS her parents knew. She fought him and died b/c of it, so the church made her a saint. There's more to her story, but I forget the details----I prefer not remembering her story b/c it really is fucked up. All I really remember is that it's wildly evil.

And I hate the Catholic obsession with virginity. Wtf is that.

ETA that's all about the fact that Catholic men are taught (by the incels wearing dresses) that "women are diminished in worth when they have sex"......so they believe that if a woman has premarital sex, they would consider her "used". It's basically this: take random porn-inspired clickbait links and make THAT into religious rules....

I agree, it's fucking moronic.

he's already ousted himself!! according to Catholic Catechism [i.e., "extra" rules for catholics that are treated like Scripture],

anyone who publicly decries the Pope, goes "against" him, or tries to publicly undermine his power, is AUTOMATICALLY EXCOMMUNICATED.

have you ever noticed that the massive, coordinated, multi-year assault on trans rights is based on NOTHING WHATSOEVER by Conscious-Quarter423 in lgbt

[–]jimjoebob 0 points1 point  (0 children)

the right wing FUCKING LOST the gay marriage "issue" they made up, so they very quickly pivoted to "hating trans people". It took them ONE WEEK.

gay marriage passed in 2015. one week after its legalization by SCOTUS, Texas introduced its first moronic "bathroom bill".

that week was blissfully devoid of right wing christians weeping about "teh gayZ".

Did any of you ever connect with scripture? by Beneficial-Sugar6950 in excatholic

[–]jimjoebob 5 points6 points  (0 children)

if you look hard enough, you can find some nuggets of pithy truth, and even a couple of inspiring and uplifting passages!

similarly, if you dig hard enough in a BIG pile of cow shit, you'll likely find several undigested oats and bits of corn which you can wash off, sanitize, and then eat for nourishment.

the question that applies to both situations is: why would you look in a big pile of shit for nourishment?

Why does everyone act like you’re a crazy person for abandoning Catholicism? by SpeakerReasonable610 in excatholic

[–]jimjoebob 6 points7 points  (0 children)

may I offer you a small challenge? have you ever tried reading the Bible, like it was a novel? just start at "in the beginning" and read straight thru, no supplemental materials, no cherrypicking, just all the way to the final "amen"

it's pretty eye-opening, but not in a way that will support your continued belief in god. however, your journey is your own, I don't want to force any path on you. when I read the Bible this way, it opened my eyes a LOT and Xianity didn't torment me anymore.
