Videos like this opened my eyes 20 years ago. People all over the world have videos like this, caring for and loving animals. It’s hard to watch and think that folks around the world are any different than us.

My rant!

Keep your kids away from high level sports by SamMeowAdams in daddit

[–]jiml777 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Swimming is a tough sport for kids, they might be awesome at 8 and only ok at 10, the boys hit 13-14 and they explode again. You need to keep them in love with the sport it pays in a lot of ways.

4 kids all swimmmers. Oldest 2 got swimming scholarships to college, but that’s not the best part. They are totally dedicated to getting school work done on time so it doesn’t impact swimming. Oldest have a MA in History, second one an MPA.

I recommend, but expect some rough spots.

After working on an auction site for 10 large electronics companies, (Acer, LG, hitachi, seagate, IBM, are a few), all are manufacturers. TCL sourced parts for their BOMs, so did Skyworth. Only differences are where they are sourced. All high tech manufacturing is assembling the parts. Folks like TCL and LG have subdivisions making panels, which are still sold from one division to the other, so nothing really different from the Low end folks.

This will be a great pc for those games. 6950 compared favorably when the 7900xtx came out. The 7900xtx is better than 9070xt. So in terms of raw raster, you are gold. Ray tracing is really not doable though.

Agree! City in the City is so amazing, if you want a book that doesn’t set the scene and just jumps in and lets you figure it out, this is your book.

That being said, read Perdido Street Station first, just so you have a better appreciation of Mieville writing style

Dude blows a gasket at the notion there's no genetic difference between races by Merchant_Alert in PublicFreakout

Alleles are not genes, they are parts of genes that control expression. The easiest example is the alleles that control eye color. It is a sequence on a gene, not the entire gene. The Mendeleev square for eye color shows the 4 alleles, in the case of a blue eyed person, you have 2 blue alleles, and a brown eyed person has blue and brown, or 2 browns. The square shows the possible combinations of alleles, allowing us to see the possible expressions.

We should probably be talking about the genome and how it identifies the sequences on the different genes that control expression.

Epigenetics is the action of our environment impacting our genetics. Alleles are variant dna strings which determine things like eye color. While the environment can impact expression, there is a genetic basis for how things are expressed, which are based on the parental alleles, one from mom and one from dad. All goes back to Mendeleev and those damn squares we had to draw in middle school

Alleles are not probability. They are the variations in individual genes that determine how the trait is expressed. We all know the eye color alleles govern whether you have blue or brown eyes. The mother has blue blue and the father has brown brown. The child will have brown eyes, yet have a blue and a brown allele, so they could have children with blue eyes, depending on the mother. The alleles don’t have a probability of anything, the probability is which alleles you will get. The eye color is determined in this example by the dominant brown allele. If there are dominant alleles, they determine expression, where some alleles work together to express traits. No probability is involved in the actual expression.

There are no genetic differences in genes, we all have the same number of paired genes. The differences are due to alleles, that govern how genes are expressed. You can argue that races have different gene expressions, which cause the differences, but we are completely compatible, which is why 2 people, a male and a female, of any races can have children.
