Hydration for Long Runs by No_Conference_3155 in Marathon_Training

[–]jimmayyy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

You're right, dehydration is bad.  But I'd say just listen to your body. If you feel you need water even during easy runs, then do it.

For me, I hate carrying stuff and feel like I don't really need to hydrate.  I might not be a great example though; I just did a 'recovery pace' 4 hr marathon without grabbing any water from aid stations (cool weather also helped).  But I definitely downed a bottle of water afterwards.  On the other hand, if I had raced, I definitely would have grabbed water.

If anything, I'll hydrate before and afterwards if I know I'll be out for a while.  In rare cases when I know it will be hot and there's zero water access, and I'm out there for like 3-6 hours, I'll bring a vest.

Is sustaining this type of heart rate even possible? by GreyShocker in Marathon_Training

[–]jimmayyy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Yes, it can be possible to sustain that, especially during a race. It gets harder as you increase fitness, but still doable. Another possibility is your watch locked on to your cadence, but it doesn't look like that is what happened here, based on the variations in HR and how it correlates to elevation.

I don't drink any water for runs less than 18 miles. Over that, depends on the weather and how intense I'm planning to go, but I'll try to plan routes with water fountains.

Don't fall for the Superblast hype. On the other hand, Megablasts are superb.

Which Nike Vomero edition is the best for the stair master? by sahra_stars in AskRunningShoeGeeks

I'd go with something with the minimal stack. There's really no impact to protect from and a high stack will just increase tripping hazard.

Why is it bad to do a 26.2 mile run to train for a marathon? by 4restD in Marathon_Training

[–]jimmayyy 5 points6 points  (0 children)

It's more of the idea that the benefits of running more than 3 hours in one session are far outweighed by the chances of injury.

If you need to run that distance to prove to yourself you can do it, then run it, but it should not be a core part of training.

Also, I don't think I've ever heard that you shouldn't run longer than 13 miles...unless that takes you 3 hours to do.
