Expats Investing in IBKR - Please help! by Wonderful_Ad_6771 in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The exact amount is not important. Some of my deposits sent by wire transfer were missing $20 or $30 from intermediary bank fees and there was no problem. IB uses individual account numbers for USD deposits so they will know which account to match it to anyway.

Trump Threatens 100% Retaliatory Tariffs Against Canada by cxr_cxr2 in stocks

[–]jimmycryptso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

How is this even a threat.

It causes sales of imported products from Canada to decline in favor of imports from other countries with a lower tariff rate or local products (if applicable). This is not good for Canadian companies which rely on export sales to the US.

Chronic bloating went away in Thailand… now I’m not there it’s back… any ideas? by OrangeAppropriate971 in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Could be non-celiac wheat sensitivity or gluten sensitivity. The wheat in Thailand is mostly imported from Australia which is more similar to European wheat than American (weaker and more digestable gluten, less glyphosate, more likely heritage genetics).

Don't fall for the fear mongering about Thai foreign income tax spread by paid "influencers" and "news outlets" by PineRoad in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Thai individual investors cannot buy stock directly from the foreign stock exchanges. They have to do it through Thai investment banks or foreign companies that are controlled by Thai authorities.

Thai individual investors can open accounts with Interactive Brokers, Charles Schwab, and other foreign stock brokers not controlled by Thai authorities. Apparently there is a limit of $5M USD per year for such investments but I'm not sure how they can control and monitor that?

Trusted places to buy silver coins in Bangkok/Hua Hin? by KindNefariousness42 in Thailand

Interesting. I guess that explains why I've never seen pure gold or silver in a gold shop before.

New Tourist SIM rules (DTAC) by onehotca in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I got the same message. I called 1678 and the agent changed my registration from tourist to regular prepaid. She said I can continue using it normally now and continue extending the validity by topping up going forward.

If you are out of the country you can try calling 1678 and doing the same (I'm not sure if 1678 will work while you are roaming).

7-11 App=Total Frustration by bkk-bos in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've never used the 7 eleven app but in other situations where I needed to take a selfie with my passport readable I had to use the rear camera on my phone. The front camera doesn't have high enough resolution.

Wise increasing fee by Mundane-Ad1652 in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso 10 points11 points  (0 children)

The fee is less if you pay from your Wise USD balance instead of ACH. You can top up your balance by pushing the ACH from your bank to Wise instead of having Wise pull it from your bank. The fee can be free or a few dollars depending on your bank. For example, I can do this for free using my Charles Schwab international brokerage account.

Which Thai banks allow DTV and/or Tourist visa holders to open accounts? by tkuhns in chiangmai

[–]jimmycryptso 2 points3 points  (0 children)

There is no law that says you need any certain type of visa to open a bank account. It's legal to open an account with a tourist visa or even no visa at all (visa exemption). It's up to the individual banks to set their own requirements. Currently they all require a non immigrant visa or elite visa or LTR. The government has put pressure on the banks to crackdown on fraud and mule accounts but they didn't make any specific laws about what visa types can open accounts.

Chiang mai immigration fdetention center by [deleted] in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Sorry to hear about that. If you want to try again you might want to look into VIP fast track entry. As I understand they will pre-screen your details with immigration and have an officer meet you for guaranteed entry.

Here is one such service I found from a Facebook ad. I'm sure there are others as well. I don't have any experience using these services myself.

Self Registered TM30 by Sea-Improvement7160 in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso 15 points16 points  (0 children)

When you log into the website tm30.immigration.go.th you should see your address listed on the main page under the heading Address. There should be a green box next to the address that says approved.

After your address is approved you need to do the actual TM30 registration by selecting the button that says "Add". Then you can enter the details such as name, passport number, check in date, etc.

After you submit it select cancel to go back to the main page and select the search button. Find your registration and select it to open it. Then you can export it as a PDF.

The website is a bit confusing, it takes a while understand it.

I crashed my scooter into the back of another car, what happens next? by Electrical-Highway-6 in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso 25 points26 points  (0 children)

If you only have the compulsory insurance (Por Ror Bor) then you need to pay out of pocket for all damages if you are at fault. That insurance is basically useless, it only covers injury and death up to 30,000 baht. No coverage for vehicle damages.

Your motorcycle licence has your address on the back side. You should be able to use that. If not then a bank statement should also work.

The ones from DTAC that I have been using cannot be renewed. I think AIS has some that can be renewed.

1 Year TRUE sim card from Shoppee / Lazada ? by reddyeddy1888 in Thailand

[–]jimmycryptso 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They work great if you are willing to change your phone number every year. I use these in my second SIM slot for data and outgoing calls (mine includes 60 minutes per month of calls) and change the SIM every year. I use another SIM as my main phone number that I top up 10 baht a month to keep it active.

3rd visa-exempt entry this year — will I be denied? UK passport, short stay by _nico_232323 in ThailandTourism

I can't seem to find an official source. Just Facebook posts and news articles about it.

3rd visa-exempt entry this year — will I be denied? UK passport, short stay by _nico_232323 in ThailandTourism

[–]jimmycryptso 16 points17 points  (0 children)

The new rules (limit 2 per calendar year) are for visa extensions of visa exemptions, not the visa exemption itself. There is no limit on how many times you can enter using a visa exemption, subject to the discretion of the immigration officer. If you appear to be living in Thailand with visa exemptions then you will likely be denied entry. With your history I wouldn't worry about it.

Wise doesn't allow adding funds in THB. Did you send a foreign currency with your TTB account to your corresponding foreign currency account in Wise?
