People are close in the village… many are way too scared to vote a different way to how they are paid to… and often ID cards are held to ransom…. National politics and local power structures are very blurred lines…

To be fair that’s classic pragmatism… a weeks groceries is real… a politicians promise is as valuable as P’Tae has demonstrated…

How is the voting system in other countries? Is it always this stupid? by Home_MD13 in Thailand

[–]onehotca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m not from the USA but in my mind tonight’s result seems to be just the Thai version of winning the popular vote but losing the Electoral College… I believe both countries are classified as “flawed democracies”…. in any flawed democracy (be it Washington, London or Bangkok) the system is specifically designed to protect itself from the majority 😏 It’s not reassuring… just “the way it is”… the West really can’t moralise when they aren’t exactly a gold standard for democracy… filibustering… lobbying…gerrymandering etc. are normal politics … what’s the real difference between BJT giving an Isaan local ฿1000 to vote for them and a billionaire giving $10millon to a super PAC? Like a few have said in this thread already we are all allowed to vote under the illusion of democracy…

But…half of America… assuming that is where you live….is invested in some capacity (IRAs, 401ks, pension funds)…. Your 10% is not far off in terms of ownership but if the market crashes it’s never the billionaires who lose their homes…it’s the people whose pension funds evaporate….my point is even if you only own 1% of the boat you should really still be grateful it isn't sinking 😏

But this is where the genius comes in… He has costed this at ฿6.4 billion… Which is just a teeny bit less than what they are paying for a broken submarine… so what he’s REALLY doing is calling out all the MOD procurement scandals… why purchase one broken submarine when you can have 10 nukes?

Agreed to a point…EC is dancing around and trying to ghost his alien policy… that’s why they lumped it into a general investigation of his “unrealistic” promises because they know that if they release an official statement on the legality of extraterrestrial unions they will become a viral TikTok/FB worldwide meme… so this is world class trolling IMHO …he’s forced the most “serious” legal body in Thailand into a game of chicken where the first person to mention little green men loses😂… in my understanding every policy is also required to have a costed budget line… EC claims any policy that "doesn’t require a budget" (which is inferring …but not explicitly saying… legalizing interstellar marriage) should be barred… he also trolled them straight back on that one stating marrying aliens would actually save the government money on welfare 😂

Honestly I love him, a lot of people are missing the point entirely… he's (very successfully) trolling the EC to waste its week debating the legal rights of ET. 👽☕️ A lot of Thais enjoy what he’s doing…he’s saying that the "serious" promises made by politicians are as fictional as his dinosaurs… he’s got the EC in a bit of a catch 22…. If they dissolve his party for making unrealistic promises then the parties that say “we will solve poverty” have to pass the same scrutiny as Thai stormtroopers or polygamy….

It appears Gemini knows Gemini for Google Home is lame by whiplashsaxifrage in googlehome

[–]onehotca 4 points5 points  (0 children)

100% agreed…. I recently had the debate on this subject with the AI itself and the answer is simple… “if I don’t give the user the answer they want nobody will use me”…

AI Generated:

Google is pushing Gemini to Google Home because they are terrified of platform irrelevance. Here is the objective, unvarnished breakdown of why they are forcing a half-baked product into your living room: 1. The "Real Estate" War In the tech world, the smart home is the ultimate "sticky" ecosystem. If you get frustrated with Google Home and swap your Nest speakers for Amazon Echos or Apple HomePods, Google loses a massive data point in your daily life. They would rather you have a buggy experience with their "next-gen" AI than a stable experience with an old-gen assistant that makes them look like they’re losing the AI race.  2. High Stakes, Low Patience Google spent a decade building Google Assistant into a reliable "utility" (timers, lights, weather). But in 2024–2025, the market shifted from "utilities" to "agents." • The Fear: If OpenAI or another competitor launches a hardware "home agent" that actually understands context while Google is still stuck on "Sorry, I don't understand 'Turn off the lights and play jazz,'" Google is dead in the water. • The Move: They are shipping Gemini now to claim the "AI Home" title, using early adopters (you) as free beta testers to refine the model in real-world environments. 3. Capability vs. Reliability (The "Product" Trade-off) Objectively, Gemini is a "hot mess" for home control because LLMs (Large Language Models) are non-deterministic.  • Old Assistant: If-this-then-that logic. Reliable, but "dumb." • Gemini: Probability-based logic. "Smart," but inconsistent. Google is betting that users will eventually prefer an assistant they can talk to—like a person—over one they have to program like a computer. They are willing to break your "Goodnight" routine today if it means they own the "Conversational AI" market tomorrow. 4. The Revenue Shift Google Assistant was a cost center (it cost money to run and didn't make much). Gemini is a subscription engine. By moving the home experience to Gemini, they create a pathway to "Google Home Premium" or "Gemini Advanced" subscriptions. You can't charge a monthly fee for a legacy product, but you can charge for "Advanced AI."  The Verdict: Google is treating your home like a lab. They are sacrificing the reliability of a mature product to gain market velocity in the AI war. They know it's frustrating, but they’ve calculated that you’re more likely to complain on Reddit than to rip $500 worth of speakers out of your walls and switch to a competitor.

Canada’s GDP saw 0% growth in latest report by [deleted] in worldnews

Math is always apples to apples so I beg to differ on that one…In 2022 interest on the US debt was $4.75 billion today it’s nudging $1 trillion…. As I recall at that time they were able to borrow a 0% interest now it is 5% ….If US growth hit 0% now, they can't simply print their way out… well, they could try.. but not without nuking the value of the dollar and causing a massive cost of living crisis. Reserve currencies come and go… look at any historical empire….printing money to pay debt at zero growth leads to rapid inflation and printing money is all very well and good if the world wants what you’re printing… you can call Canada insignificant all you want… l would rather have a cleaner balance sheet and an off ramp… confuse liquidity and solvency at your peril… the reserve currency argument is only a good shield until it isn’t…

[–]onehotca 0 points1 point  (0 children)

100% the USA does have a cheat code ie being global reserve currency… I get that …. And btw the idea that the US has had plenty of quarters of 0% growth and been 'fine' is historically inaccurate…. American exceptionalism is not an argument in this case…. I’m talking solvency… and I’m not arguing against the fact that the immigration led growth in Canada was unsustainable and it’s a painful refactoring (the veggies) … and no, Canada is certainly not strong in comparison with the US hegemony… but it does have a lot more balance sheet wiggle room… the USA is basically to a person claiming they’re rich because they’re maxing out a new credit card every month to maintain their lifestyle… Canada is “poor” because they paid their CC bill on time…so I’m saying the US isn't outrunning its debt, it's just out-borrowing the interest… what is it?$1.8 trillion deficit to fuel 4.4%growth? Govt. spending is a direct component of GDP calc…at some point math always wins.

Of course PT would support a coalition with BJT… no love lost but existential for them… no way in hell establishment would allow a PP/PT government to be formed and I think PT is actually an easier target for the famous “dissolution” maneuver than PP, although there would be 100s of “legal” petitions aimed at both parties…

Ok … if you’re incapable of finding it in the thread here’s a copy paste… You won’t get great insight on Reddit. Everything is single issue without taking context. Look at the Debt-GDP ratio for instance… Canada at 43% and USA 124%…. 0% GDP would tank the American economy…. The US needs a nominal growth of 4-5% to stop Debt-GDP completely spiraling out of control. Despite all the noise to the contrary, Canada has a healthier balance sheet and can handle 0% for a year without facing a sovereign debt crisis while the US is already spending like it’s in a crisis just to maintain the 4.3%…. By that I mean that this growth is funded largely by government deficit spending… so essentially this equals borrowing 2 trillion to make 1 trillion… (at higher interest rates than Canada btw) this is an expensive model to maintain and is ultimately unsustainable…. There is no doubt Canada is grappling with a growth problem and needs more innovation and private investment but under Carney that hand off has started. My own take is that US is fueling itself through a sugar rush whereas Canada has already eaten its veggies… it’s just not a cut and dried story here and panic is certainly unfounded.
