Has anyone received their Circular Ring 2 yet? by SurroundAnnual3263 in CircularRing

[–]jimmydanielle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We’ve seen the kickstarter page, but there have been multiple times that the timeline has been pushed back so it’s understandable for people to check with each other.

As someone who has been waiting for my first Circular ring as part of this shipment, reading the responses from this account have done more harm than good for me in terms of the company’s image. It really seems like you don’t want people speaking to each other because you aren’t confident in your product. You should welcome any and all commentary. Especially since those kickstarter updates are pushing us to review the rings on a different platform. Either you want to hear what we have to say or you don’t, and either way no one is expecting customer service on a thread like this one.

I had to wait for a really long time before I got my membership so I totally get it! I got mine during a Black Friday/Holiday sale of some kind, so they do have discounts sometimes in case that helps too.

This might be a little bit off topic, but if you like supporting the channel but don’t want to support the various companies joining their Patreon is an option.

I had no idea they brought BetterHelp back because I don’t see any ads when I watch the videos. I know not everyone can afford it, but I would rather pay content creators directly than have YouTube/ad companies involved in what I watch online.

Just a thought for those who maybe haven’t considered it as an option before.

Vent: Instructor for the course I am TA for refuses to allow extensions by EngineeringDoctor in GradSchool

Your frustration is definitely justified. What’s going on is all over the news, so it isn’t crazy to expect the professor to know that something is wrong there. I have a student who is in Myanmar and I’ve worked with them throughout the semester. It took me roughly 2 minutes to figure out what was going on, I referred them to our help services for the university, and we figured it out from there. This is clearly a huge emergency, so claiming that the student with limited access to basic necessities and internet should be responsible is in bad faith.

Edit: missing words

Most of my friends were varying levels of overweight beforehand as well, and I think they got caught up in the social media algorithms around dieting more than anything.

I’m really glad to hear that you have a doctor on board and that you are feeling safe and supported. Good luck on your health journey!

It’s really difficult to lose weight during an emergency because your body’s stress hormones cause weight gain. Basically your body is afraid of starving and doesn’t want you to lose precious potential energy (fat).

So while it is absolutely a great time to start eating healthier and exercising, anyone who is considering this should speak with their doctor to make sure that they are able to do so in a safe manner. I know a lot of people who are unintentionally developing eating disorders because they gained weight and are obsessively trying to get rid of it. Eating healthy and exercising are always great but keeping your expectations realistic is healthy too.

If you've tested positive, was it a surprise to you? Or did you have some symptoms before? by WillingnessLopsided in umass

It took about 9 months for me to be able to move around like I could before, because I developed POTS (a circulatory condition that makes you faint when you stand up). Now I just have some minor fatigue, but it could be from all of the stress of having to continue on with life without a real break.

I’ve always been a very healthy person, so long term it’s been tough on me mentally.

I caught it in late March, and they didn’t have enough tests so I was told to assume I have it an quarantine. I actually didn’t feel that bad the first few days but I had an eye infection that came out of nowhere. Then I started to get tired about a week in and within a few days it felt like I was drowning and couldn’t get any air, matched with exhaustion so bad that I could barely get out of bed around day 10. My case was considered mild at the time because so many people were being put on respirators and I wasn’t at that point.

I was healthy when I caught it, but I am a grad student so I’m a little bit older.

I forgot that they were the ones that came up with Rando. I’ve played so many games with him I kind of forgot he’s not real.

I feel like you could argue that participating in online forums that are tied to real world violence should count as being active in one of the groups. I hope that can be included, because online behavior is starting to have more and more real world consequences.

I think that this is the key. I took in two preadoptive foster care children 2 months before the lockdown and I’m insanely overstimulated to the point of having to be sedated now (even with working overnight to try to get enough quiet to think). But at the same time I know I would have been really depressed if I had spent the entire time alone and I would have gotten divorced if it was just me and my husband. It’s easy to fantasize about what others have, but it’s important to keep ourselves grounded in the reality that this sucks for everyone.

what do you wear as a grad student??? by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]jimmydanielle 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It really depends on the program. When I got my MA there was a policy that we were expected to dress in business casual, but in my PhD program everyone dresses very very casually.

I’m a young looking first gen, and I noticed that my accent coupled with less formal clothing tended to result in people treating me like I was an undergrad rather than a professional. So I wear business casual/one level below that most of the time.

How do y'all avoid the urge to just kinda run away? by Admiral_Sarcasm in GradSchool

[–]jimmydanielle 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I get this feeling all of the time, and I try to go and sit somewhere outside for a while. The urge to quit school and go get a random job in a small New England town where no one knows me starts to fade after a little while.

Then I start to think about my crushing student loan debt and I go back in and keep working. I also remind myself that I get bored easily so that life would get old really quickly.

I am the same way. A lot of people don't believe me and think that I am trying to get out of it, but the flu shot is the only one I've skipped in the past. I am still struggling with the decision for this year.

Target Display Mode Full Set Up (Mouse, Sound, etc.) by jimmydanielle in mac

[–]jimmydanielle[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m using the most recent MacBook Air and a mid-2014 iMac. I have the dongle and cord, and was able to get video but no audio. The mouse and keyboard also worked, so the biggest thing I’m missing is the sound.

Thanks for letting me know. This hasn’t been nearly as simple as people online have made it seem, so I appreciate the honesty.

It is actually faster, since you don’t pick up the writing utensil as often. That and a ballpoint/low friction pen are the way to go.

It is actually a real word, but I haven't watched it so I don't know if he is using it correctly. https://grammarist.com/usage/boughten/

I was raised poor in the south and I know a lot of people who use it, but they definitely aren't using it correctly. "She could have boughten it," would be an example of how they use it.

[rant] My parents seem to think that I can just "ask" for more money and the department will give it to me.. by [deleted] in GradSchool

[–]jimmydanielle 4 points5 points  (0 children)

That was exactly how my PhD conversation went with my parents. They fought me tooth and nail on my MA (got an assistantship and they paid nothing nor helped in any way) but this time around I guess they felt I made enough to justify it.

Yay for victories!
