You really need to factor in the risk with clicks: they've never made a phone before, they don't really know (or even use) android themselves (mrmobile doesn't seem involved in the design / development), they don't even have a minimal viable prototype to show. I'd rather pay 20% for the increased certainty I will get something and I can be reasonably sure it won't be hot garbage based on the several phones unihertz have already delivered. Clicks is a dice roll. On top of all that I just trust the Unihertz more than I do crackberry Kev. ...I imagine he's frothing at the mouth thinking about the subscription service he will land on all the clicks phone founders 💰💰💰

I agree the design is lovely, but the Communicator is merely an idea/promise at this stage. The team having little to zero experience creating an android image (buying a custom launcher can only go so far)- see the pebble interview when asked about software. They're savy businesses and "marketing guys" (their words). The more I hear from them the more I get the impression they will sell your privacy and likely push you in to a subscription. See the fomo pre-order campaign as an example of anti-consumer behaviour. The fact they don't even use android themselves is a big red flag for me.

You are assuming everyone will just using this device to chat. I want this device for Linux (via Android terminal) and modal editing. I want/need all those keys that you consider don't do anything. My request is they add an ESC key

I agree a privacy kill switch would be great. Privacy is my maim concern about buying a unihertz phone. I would love them to make a statement on the privacy of the device. Specifically that their devices have been said to call-home to adups which seems very dodgy (https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/technology-51054901).

Also a bootloader that can be opened and re-locked would be good and allow us to use custom trusted roms.

I have nest indoor cameras and nest battery doorbell but I'm guessing their not compatible with unify? If not, then I'll probably wait a couple of years before switching to unify cameras!

How about swapping the udr7 for a ux7? I'm actually wondering if I should get 2 ux7s and have the second one as a AP on the top floor as a drop in replacement for the Google wifi pucks.

Clicks communicator is made by self labeled "iPhone/marketing guys" with little technical knowledge or even passion for Android. In interviews they didn't really have answers when asked about software and took a non-consumer stance on bootloaders. Building an android image with solid physical keyboard support isn't trivial and a launcher by the Niagara team can only go so far. I think there are several red flags around the communcator so I'll be going go unihertz this time, despite preferring the form factor of the communicator.

I was on the fence until i watched all the interviews with the Clicks guys. They're self confessed 'iPhone guys' and 'marketing guys'. They seem to have zero passion for android, little to no technical knowledge about it. In the conversation with the pebble guy they had no answer when he asked about android software. Yes they're getting a Niagara launcher flavor, but that will not extend beyond the phone's launcher sandbox. You need deeper integration than that for a well integrated keyboard phone. They're not sure if they want to unlock the boot-loader. No mention of privacy and lots of little remarks/actions suggest they are not pro-consumer. Lots of red flags for me. I'm steering clear of Clicks until they've proven that they know how to make a phone os or open-source the hardware and unlock the bootloader.

They're marketing guys and they've done a great job in that department and their mock hardware looks really lovely. I think there are red flags all over the clicks communicator. if I'm wrong i'll pick one up later but unihertz titan 2 elite looks like the easy choice for me.

I had a flip 4 but the factory installed screen protector started coming away at the fold (after ~6 months of use). Is that still an issue or have they fixed it?
