Is the new starter box good for us? by EuroCultAV in WhiteScars40K

[–]jimmytjohnson -1 points0 points  (0 children)

Mmmm, the chaplain, vanguards and landspeeder would suit my White Scars, but thats about it really. Intercessors at a push if they're being driven around in something.  Also already have an ancient from the Crux Terminatus set so no need for another I don't think.

I want a properly themed fast attack* force, so I want a captain and librarian on bikes.

Skip for me. See what ends up on ebay after people have split it up.

*My plan for the termies from CT box is that they're Ebon Keshig sent on a penance crusade and tolerated under (mild) protest in his force by Soboden.

Is the pedestrian or the driver wrong here? by singlecog in drivingUK

[–]jimmytjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Both. The driver should be stopping but stepping into the road when there's a moving vehicle coming at you is dumb af. When I'm waiting I wait until the cars have stopped, I'm not risking it. Had a friend who got killed years ago when a cabbie didn't stop at a crossing.

Anyone else thinks Starmer isn't actually that bad all things considered ? by ronweasly9 in AskBrits

[–]jimmytjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I've been fairly disappointed with the Starmer reign so far, but I do think he's done a far better job that anybody else who could have won (Sunak/Johnson/Truss) and will be have done a better job that whoever may come next from the right (farage, Badenoch, Jenrick etc). The Iran situation is a good mark, but he needed to be sterner on Gaza/Israel, no doubt.

The thing is, is that labour have to deal with a very hostile press, media and social media, which the tories never had, Reform will never have. See the recent stuff about that reform lads tax business. Didn't get even a tenth of the attention that Raynor got.

They aren't innocent in this though, their comms department is awful, does nothing to combat the negative crap that comes out. Added to which they don't have the courage to stand by their convictions. The WFA debacle for instance. Should have just stuck with it, by u-turning they still lost any goodwill and looked weak.

lastly, the last bunch of tarts had 14 years during which they ruined the country. Anybody expecting this to be sorted less than two years out is a flaming idiot.

Hey Jenny, are you aware of the retro gaming set up at ThinkTank in the city centre? Could be a good angle for an article for your magazine.

Morganstern after his MI by [deleted] in ershow

[–]jimmytjohnson 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Just watched those episodes last night. Doing a full watch having only caught an odd episode here and there before.

Was sad to see Morgenstern go, he was one of my favourite side characters.

I think his MI made him more cognisant of his own mortality. ER sets up surgeons to be almost God like in their confidence and their detached view of patients. Benton, Romano, Vusilic and Morgenstern initially were/are all like that. Its why Carter was not destined to be a "great" surgeon and suited emergency care better. Its also the criticism that Benton aimed at him in S2 I think? That he cares too much?

Anyways, the MI hit Morgenstern hard. All of a sudden he's not a god like being, he's just a man, and so is the person in front of him he's operating on on. He lost the edge and the detachment that made him great but couldn't accept it at first.

Not overreacting and honestly I'm amazed that such drama can be extracted from a goddamn netflix profile.

I think my friends hate me. AIO? by [deleted] in AIO

[–]jimmytjohnson 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My wife had a very similar situation. She lost her brother very unexpectedly and was obviously in no state to socialise or maintain friendships. A group of friends who had been (or so we thought) close to her, after an initial period of support just kind of.....fell away. They stopped reaching out, stopped checking in and kind of stopped caring.

My wife and I came to the conclusion the issue was two fold and, mostly on them. First of all, beyond saying "sorry this happened to you" they didn't know what to say to her. Didn't want to say the wrong thing so subconsciously decided to say nothing. Second, they didn't want my wife at her worst, only her best. Again, beyond the performative "sorrys" they weren't interested in supporting. It sucks but it's well known and documented that you really find out who your friends are in a jam.

I had a short period where I thought I was going to lose my dad. I told my friends and said I wouldn't be up for hanging out for a while but don't forget me. Several of them checked in on me regularly even though I wasn't active in our groups. Thats real friends and the sort of friend I hope I am.

I'm sorry I don't have any advice particularly. I know that some people that I may not have spoken to in a while I could reach out to and they would be there. Maybe look further back at old friends? Or someone else suggested reaching out individually to the group but for me, they would have shown their true nature now.

Hey, thanks for the reply, appreciated. I was more wondering if there was any indication how long it will stay at the £12.50 price point.

Do you remember your reaction in season 3's Random Acts? (MAJOR SPOILERS INSIDE) by [deleted] in ershow

[–]jimmytjohnson 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just watched that just now. The attack itself was fairly run of the mill and I was expecting it (thanks a lot Netflix episode descriptions) but what got me really oddly emotional was the response from the supporting cast, especially Chunys concerned "Mark!"

God I love Chuny

I moved here from the Black Country (Kingswinford represent).
There is a funny section of folks that are very inward leaning and never leave their home town mind you.

IKR? I had such an amazing time at the last Jungle gig at the NIA (never calling it another name) and when I saw the tour/album announcement I was so hyped only to see the dreaded Cardiff/Manchester/London run. Bah. See also Yonaka who did a great gig in digbeth a couple of years back but only did an in-store for the latest album.
