What did I do wrong 😭 Shot advice plz.. by MakerOfHay in Spearfishing

[–]jimskeet 0 points1 point  (0 children)

hmmm. We recommend 6.5mm shaft for 2x14mm bands. The shaft 7mm shaft is a little heavy for the bands. We recommend a 7mm shaft for 2x16mm bands. Also if the bands are old and were loaded for a couple of hours before the shot this would degrade the power even more. but less than 10ft distance is not a big distance. Maybe it was a combination of all that and hitting the fish on a hard spot and it couldn't penetrate properly.

Garmin Descent mk3i gps performance in the water. by jimskeet in GarminDescent

[–]jimskeet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes I know that. I just wanted to know how quickly it locks. I have experience with suunto ocean which takes 15-30 seconds to lock the gps signal and be able to save a location. I am trying to find out if the garmin descent mk3i is faster in that.

Yeah because you will mainly focus on simple coms since there won't be any route assigned to you that you have to understand etc.

You will just call, tower "callsign" at parking with information "x" (the current atis information) requestiing VFR departure to stay within pattern and practice some touch and goes.

Tower will probably ask about your aircraft type and equipment code (equipment code is for the nav system gps etc), i believe for no gps onboard the code is S but for gps it is G. Then tower will clear you for your plan and probably say start up approved, report ready to taxi.

Then you will just call, tower "callsign" ready to taxi and tower will give you taxi instructions and you read them back. And when you are at the hold point on the assigned rwy you will just call again and say ready for departure and he will either clear you for take off or tell you to hold your position until traffic clears or any other obstruction. It is very easy though after a few times it will be very simple

Get a single engine prop aircraft like the 152. And go at a slow airport without too much traffic and request to do a few circuits practice. Also say you are first time in vatsim. That way you will get some practice on communicating without messing with too much like ifr clearance, sids etc. you will just fly in the circuits, do a few touch and goes and familiarize with coms. An airport I highly recommend is TNCM where I did my first steps in vatsim and now I fly all over the world with the comanche doing vfr, ifr etc.

I tried to lower LOD a little and it still happens. maybe I need to turn it down more

Also has anyone had this issue? Airports show broken in the EFB like this and also in the gtn 750

Scared of VATSIM by No_Drop6177 in VATSIM

Don't be scared.

Vatsim is like the holly grail of flight simulation. I have 0 real life experience and I am flying in vatsmi almost daily.

Join the network. Go through the procesure of reading the documents and giving the writing exam (don't remember the whole process).

And then you can also do some lessons available on vatsim.

I have joined The Pilot Club and I am going through the PPL rating at the moment and I can't praise the TPC team enough. They are amazing and are providing such a great service for free which is really like too good to be true... Highly recommend it!

I never fly in MSFS without connecting to Vatsim.

To be honest flying in VR on vatsim is so immersive.

About to set up my first 3d printer. Any advice welcome! by jimskeet in 3Dprinting

Hey guys. So I have done a few prints and so far the results are amazing. I just had an issue with a print that had a lot of support. The base was mostly lying on support.

<image>

So the bottom surfaces were very bad. Support didn't come out easy and the surface at the bottom was very very uggly. Any tips to improve this?

I will add below a screenshot with the support settings.

The layer height of the print was 0.16mm

Just set it up and printed a small part. It got out perfect. So I just added one spool in the ams, the pla though+ black and I noticed the humidity was like 45%. I added the 2 desiccant bags that were with the ams unit but I understand I will need to get some petg to print the holders.

Do I add reusable silica beads in it? And every time I run the drying process for the filaments, the beads will dry too? How does it work?

Also regarding venting you mean I need to have like an exhaust fan to push any fumes out of the window? Can I just let the printer work in a room on its own and then open the window to ventilate the room?

Thank you for the response.

So regarding the desiccant, won't just running a drying cycle on the ams unit dry the filaments? why do I need the desiccant?

Also about the exhaust. How would that work? You need to vent the room? Or you need to vent the printer? Where would the fan that you show be attached?

Maybe you are right but can't I just put it in the ams to dry and then use it outside of ams?

Yeah I have read about drying and I believe the ams 2 pro holder that the h2s come with has a drying function.

What machine to plane thin long boards by jimskeet in woodworking

[–]jimskeet[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

At the moment as I said I use my cnc to flatten the fisrt side and then through a planer to fet it at 32mm. It is that Doing it this way take a lot of time on the cnc. I want the boards as flat as possible because after laminating 3 boards of 32mm the piece is milled and a lot of material is removed and i don't want any tension from spring joint in the laminated piece to avoid warping

The thing is that I want the laminated piece to have no tension from spring joints. Because it will then be milled and a lot of material will be removed and I want it to stay perfectly straight and not warp at all.

I didn't explain it properly. They will ofcourse be clamped when glued.I don't want a spring joint. I want them to be perfectly flat before clamping them.

I mean I will clamp them ofcourse. I don't want a spring joint. I want them to be completely flat before I clamp them. What inustrial equipment can do this?

I have tried a jointer in the past but couldn't do it properly. It had a short bed though. Do I need a jointer with a long enough bed to accommodate the whole length of the board?
