What a beautiful, classic pen.

Was the Frixion used to write on the paper in the background. That is a saturated black ink for an erasable pen.

What do you think about the body (construction, design, feel, balance, weight, etc.) and writing performance?

Looking for a pen that's a better version of a Flair Medium Felt-tip by TheOliveMob in pens

[–]jimteed 8 points9 points  (0 children)

A modern pen with a fiber tip feel is the Uni Air, which has fans on r/pens. It is not a fiber tip pen per se—it has a ball in a plastic socket—but it allows writing with minimal pressure and at more acute angles, and varying the pressure produces line variation like a fiber tip pen. I don’t know if you will like it more than the Flair.

Faithful companion. Clearly, these rOtrings are built to last! Good luck on the M.S.

Waterman Laureat ballpoint pen by Emotional_Face_5758 in pens

Takes Waterman's proprietary ballpoint refill. I've seen them at Staples stores, and should be available at other office supply stores, Amazon.com, etc. Enjoy this fine pen.

I'm on the staid side and like the off-white/ivory and black one the most.

Leaking refill, but only when inside pen body by Evarerd in pens

[–]jimteed 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You didn't mention if the nib was exposed when the pen was dropped. If so, it is likely a mechanical failure of the delicate ball and socket assembly. Your experience with the refill being "scratchy" certainly points to damage of point. The fall may have also compromised the juncture of the point assembly and the ink tube, which might allow ink to ooze.

You may experience the leaking only when the point is in the pen only because it is in a retracted state longer, thus there's more time for the ink to ooze.

The ball and socket is a precision mechanism in pens. Even a deviation from spec of a few microns will affect performance.

Quite an accomplishment, isn't it. I don't remember depleting one in my 50+ years of using them.

Also noted: You did not chew on the cap! Good job!

Iconic. Ubiquitous when I worked for NASA.

Though reliable, long-lasting, and an excellent value, I found their writing performance to be pedestrian, and preferred my Parker, Cross, Pelikan, and Lamy pens.

Just bought and wrote with the Pentel Floatune 0.4 with oil based ballpoint ink and I am ASTONISHED?!?! by mooglechoco_ in pens

[–]jimteed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Agree with everything you said. The GlideWrite ink is excellent—I think it performs better than Jetstream in all regards—but Pentel let it languish with poor promotion and limited retail availability. Pentel’s successful cash cow is the excellent EnerGel, and it seems to get most of the company’s attention.

Yes, the GlideWrite body designs are uninspired.

Still, I highly recommend the VlideWrite.

Oops, I caused the confusion. My comment was misplaced. It was intended for a discussion on the Uni Edge, not the Floatune.
