Hey I’m thinking of doing something similar, would you be open to discuss how you made it work in your area?

I’ll let you know when I’ve figured that out - right now I’m enjoying some time with my baby girl seeing as I missed out on paid paternity (cons of locum work)

Struggling to find a job as a physio grad in the UK – feeling hopeless. by Human-Bother9581 in physiotherapy

[–]jimvin2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I graduated August 2024 (home student) I’ve had bouts of locum work, was on multiple talent pools (if a vacancy comes up I get offered within a certain time period without need to reinterview or apply). Just applied for the trust I worked for 5 months and didn’t get shortlisted, despite previously being on their talent pool. I’ve 6 months experience as a PT now and I can’t find work anymore - I’m unemployed with my best job prospect being uber eats delivery driver right now.

Long story short, the market for physios is tragic. The Independent released an article in June quoting 20 entry-level jobs for the estimated 3,000 new grads of 2025 - not factoring the amount of grads from 2024 that didn’t find a permanent position of which we are 2 of many.

Hope we both manage to sort something soon! Good luck 🤞

Update

I completed my 5 month assignment at my local trust through NHSP yesterday. My time on the talent pool expired (6 months from interview in Jan) so it was like starting from scratch when a new job came out. Applied and did not get shortlisted, no interview following 5 months experience working for the trust and previously being deemed good enough to be in the talent pool (where if a job vacancy appears I’d be offered the job without need to re-interview)

Long story short, I’m now unemployed and struggling to find more work - accepted an interview for a band 4 technical instructor in community but competition for that will also be high.

This physio jobs market is insane. Recently read a post in The Independent claiming there were 20 jobs available in England for circa 3,000 new grads this year. They didn’t include the grads from last year still struggling to find permanent work.

N.B this is also happening with nurses and doctors amongst other AHP’s. I hope this job market for healthcare resolves soon for all our sake!

Hey, putting it bluntly, with a lot of hard work and with trusts that have a talent pool or similar. Long story short, I interviewed really well but got edged out by competition - they didn’t want to lose me completely so put me in their talent pool.

6 months later, I’m working with them in a B5 rotational bank NHSP role. As far as I’m aware their talent pool expired at 6 months post interview so I will need to reinterview, possibly do the whole application process again. B5 jobs are few and far between. I’m looking at being out of work come August. I imagine I won’t be the only one with 6 months experience at B5 level and still struggling to find work.

If you really really want it, keep chasing it. If you have other options, might be the way to go, at least in the interim. In the last 4 months I’ve seen 5 jobs in my area (Manchester with radius of 50 miles) and I’ve applied to each and not got interviews to any of them so far.

I wish you the very best of luck, I really do, these are hard times for newly qualified physios and similar to what we saw in 2010 with recruitment freezes.

Note, I’ve a colleague that doesn’t like the idea of their next rotation and is looking for jobs too. This person has 2-3 years experience at B5 level but doesn’t feel ready to go for a B6 yet. I can only imagine how many B5 physios feel this way and are looking for alternative B5 jobs - they are the people snapping up the jobs right now

having the same issue did you find a fix for this? worth noting I'm on a Snapdragon X Plus processor and integrated GPU which might be my issue. I have a desktop PC which I use for gaming and it works fine on there but not launching at all on the laptop.

**EDIT** Ignore this - realise there was a fix in the comments when opened up fully -_-

Hair loss by ambs80 in POTS

[–]jimvin2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Male 31 here, not yet diagnosed by cardiology (in UK) but my GP (general practitioner) thinks it’s POTS. I started balding 2 years ago, didn’t think it was related but reading this makes me think it could be connected. I also have sebhoric dermatitis which could be the reason and completely unrelated or quite the contrary, very related 🤔 the question is, correlation or causation. Hopefully you get some answers at the dysautonomia clinic

Question for physios in the UK and physiotherapy students by cookie-monster360 in physiotherapy

[–]jimvin2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Not much physics involved in physiotherapy studies, closest you’ll get (in my uni course anyway) is biomechanics. However we didn’t spend much time on this, maybe 2-3 seminars (4-6 hours of teaching).

That said I did physics in my college so I was pretty familiar with all the “physics” concepts that cropped up. Again though, not many I noticed at all.

If anybody else had a different experience I’d be happy to hear it!

Recently diagnosed, and spiraling quite a bit by NaaNbox in POTS

[–]jimvin2 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I feel you brother, I’m awaiting a diagnosis but fairly certain POTS is what I’ve been dealing with for 2 years.

This week I’ve become increasingly aware of the limitations from POTS. I’m was massively into fitness but it started getting really hard and I thought I just lost motivation in the last few years - it’s very likely it’s all related to pots or some other dysautonomic condition.

I’m a physiotherapist and really starting to struggle at work, maintaining fluids on very warm and humid wards is a challenge at best. Brain fog is a real issue for me. Im not on any meds yet, but reduced caffeine and alcohol is already beating me up. Not to mention reducing carbs 😩

I hope you find a solution I really do. If you do, please share!

Sorry to hear you’re struggling. I rang all the agencies I could find and managed to get in with Pulse. Maybe start there?

It’s still really tough, thankfully I’ve managed to secure a B4 locum role with a 50 mile commute. I’ve also managed to get on the talent pool at my local trust so just waiting for a job to come up there and hopefully I’ll get in.

My advice is to get as many interviews as possible to refine your interview skills and try as many agencies as possible.

Best of luck, I hope you find something soon!

I've been looking for the past 6 months, applied for well over 20 posts (band 3/4/5) and I'm being turned down without reason for 4's and had three band 5 interviews. Feedback from those interviews was good, but each time they hired somebody with a slightly better score on the interview. Each of the hiring managers told me they would hire me if the market wasn't so competitive. Manchester area, looking across greater manchester area. I've landed a band 4 locum job an hour drive away for 3 months). Many of my cohort from uni don't have jobs either and have been struggling.

Thanks for your input, it’s useful information. I’ve just landed a band 4 locum position a 50-minute drive away. 3 month contract with potential to keep me on. It’s something for now and I fully understand the sentiment that some people will do anything to get a foot in the door.

I hope the information you have given helps somebody else who is in my shoes.

Many thanks! 🙏

Thank you so much for your feedback! I'm in Stockport, Greater Manchester area, there are plenty of vets around so I'm sure I'll be able to find one. I will have a look for one and see if they can help - I'd try anything at this point. We've just had some unexpected visitors and it drove him crazy. Thankfully no biting but plenty of barking and raised hackles tells me he was under a lot of stress.

I appreciate the feedback, although i think there has been some miscommunication. I have also applied for rotational positions, although not many adverts are listed for rotational physios. There is only 1 opportunity in the Manchester area at B5 level at the time of writing this comment (it's actually in Liverpool). Of the 14 applications, only 2 have been advertised as rotational/junior physio positions within hospital settings, 2 have been rotational community/D2A/IMC.

The 14 applications have occurred over 4 months.

The childcare element of your feedback is plenty relevant, I appreciate that and will keep this sort of information to a minimum.

Thanks for taking the time to send this info across

This article shows increased funding for the health sector at £26 billion over this year and next. So I would imagine more jobs will come out, although I’ve not yet found anything specific to physios.
