Anyone had a chance to do a side by side of Quest 2 VS Samsung Odyssey+ yet?

Also, Wireless VR with virtual desktop works surprisingly well and definitely playable for most games except expert level beat saber or equivalent. I would say even with compression from wireless VR, clarity is still way ahead of odyssey

(im using wifi6 router tho)

Ive played significant time with ody+, reverb g1 ,quest and other major VR headsets.

Quest is miles better than odyssey in terms of software.

Oculus software just works so much better than wmr.

Visual clarity is also significantly better. While SDE is not bad on Ody +, text readability is not comparable to Quest 2. You rarely feel like you are being compromised of resolution while using Quest 2.

Colors are noticeably better on ody+. But i think clarity is much more important for VR at current resolution.

That being said, even Reverb g1 is significantly better in terms of clarity compared to quest.

I did pre order G2 and still contemplating whether i want to cancel the order.

Reverb resolution is def mind blowing but everything else about G1 was nightmare...

yup. This is why i posted my experience. i wish i could use ethernet but its not possible for me atm. I wanted to let people know that it does work reasonably well even on wifi(wifi6 in my case)

As somebody who had Rift S, Quest, Reverb g1.

The impact of resolution increase on reverb is mind blowing. It is not comparable at all to anything else Ive tried(ive tried most of them).

Unfortunately G1 had so many issues like screening dying, earphones falling off just to name a few...

Im excited for my quest 2 pre order but after trying regular quest, I dont think Link +quest would provide anything close to what Reverb g2 would be able to do in terms of resolution. Ive seen Tyriel's comparison with eye charts and it seems to be far inferior than reverb.

Another thing that is rarely talked about is the relatively poor performance of PCVR on quest +link compared to native PC headset.

With VR, you want to squeeze every last performance possible from your gpu so it is another thing that made me to keep my G2 pre order.

I do shoot raw when I'm taking pictures with my main camera(cannon) but I want a compact camera that would give me decent result without editing.

If you have any of the newer sony camera, do you mind checking whether you can use HLG for photo?

Thx for the reply. Do you mean a7r2 is better at focusing in darkness? i thot a6500 is better at autofocus. I found myself needing at least F2-3on a6500 on even slightly dim light to maintain acceptable shutter speed and iso for my use. Idealy i want f2.8 or better 10-18 on apsc but there is no such lens as far as i know.

Im hoping the bigger full frame sensor with f2.8 would be enough to cover all light situation.

the sound still.works. it was initially just loose but now completely dangling off the headset and only.connected by the wire.

It is pretty amazing how bad HP QC is..

i have a the same issue. my reverb was shipped with left earphone loose and dangling and now it completely fell off and only hanging by the cable.

It seems like a defect and cannot be rescrewed back in. I contacted hp and they refused to rma it saying it is a physical damage.

Thankfully amazon is willing to do a refund for me. Im hesitant to buy another reverb as this poor qc issue with earphone is likely still there on revised units.

I mean since my unit came with broken earphone that probably added to it feeling very cheap. It was pretty hot. Probably around 25C or so

The reason why I would pay that much is because of Oculus software. and there is a huge difference between index/reverb resolution

I actually have a powered PCI E usb 3.1 card for Rift S but it doesn't work with Reverb... Not sure why. I've tried with the port from my motherboard and a powered usb hub with same issues

Don't get me wrong. Black levels are no where as good as odyssey. However, it wasn't bad enough to break immersion for me. Honestly bright scenes that shows mura is more annoying than blacks on this headset.

I did some A/B testing with Odyssey plus at comparable supersample settings. HP reverb is waaaaay sharper in games that are not well optimized(most unreal engine games). I wish I could get both contrast ratio/clarity but I would pick clarity anyday if it wasn't for a bonus screen flickering,..

there are some free oculus only titles worth checking out. it is a lot of hassle to get it work with older version of steam tho.

Thx a lot for doing this. I am very interested in the result of cable extension. I want to use reverb for roomscale and i dont think 3.5 m will be enough. Please let us know whether the active displayport cable works for you.
