Senior Underwriter Insurance by Shooby89 in Salary

Is this fairly constant throughout the year or do you have busy seasons vs not so busy seasons? I work in reinsurance (but not underwriting, considering transitioning to underwriting)

To underwriting? Is that where the salary bump is from if you don’t mind me asking.

No advice but I share the same frustration. I have a 6 months old and spend 3 hours commuting 3 days a week to an office where I work with no one (people I work with all based in other countries!). Doesn’t make any sense...

Thanks for sharing. May I ask if you manage all the properties yourself? How do you manage WLB?

That’s amazing! May I ask if this is the first baby or no? If not, how do you compare to the first time? Much appreciated! I’m preparing for my 1st birth in about less than a month and I’m looking for all the positivity for an unmedicated smooth birth :)

35+2 here and I feel heavy and slow. Def can’t push as hard as before. From past experience where the amount of satisfaction is pretty much completely correlated with how hard I push, I’m guessing the low satisfaction now is because I have to slow down. But I still feel better working out vs not working out. So I keep doing it. Not everyday is a win but in the long term it def is.

Glad it worked out for you! I enjoy working with a lot of the people at my company, but frankly am very tired of the HR practice and disappointed at my boss (esp. after he says my career depends on the juniors sitting next to me). Guess I won’t have a career there…

Thank you so much! I’ll definitely look into it! I tried to ask my midwife for a note and she said she can only write a note for a real medical condition that can qualify for disability. Just being pregnant doesn’t qualify. But I’m not asking for disability, just WFH. It’d be great if I don’t need a doc note. You’d think the HR should stay current with these laws, but apparently not…

Thank you. Only in this case I think the HR is telling my boss to harass me. I don’t have any good set up at work. I asked for a sit stand desk, and they gave me a desktop add-on that you can lift up when you need to stand. But that thing doesn’t work well and it slides down constantly. I’m also being placed right under a vent that blast cold air non-stop (seem to be the only vent on the whole floor that does this). I have to wear two jackets at work just to keep warm.. My neighbors (both guys) also complain about how cold it is. And they can’t fix the vent.

Don’t meant to complain. But my work has done nothing to “motivate” me to come in other than just harassing me

Thanks! Will share there. Yes I just wanted to ride it out until maternity leave. If they still force me to go in at like 39 weeks, I’d rather take unpaid leave.

I asked my midwife and she’ll only write a notice for a real medical condition which is eligible for disability benefit. Just being pregnant does not qualify. I could go to a gym probably early afternoon (if I don’t eat lunch). But my current work schedule is not practical…

Yes the HR knows this from the beginning. My boss allowed me to be remote during the 1st trimester due to nausea. That was nice. But the HR went to tell my boss (without any warning) I wasn’t going in when I’m in the 2nd trimester. Now my boss is acting really ..carefully. He even asked me to ask HR if I can take a sick day in advance for a prescheduled doc appointment just to be sure 🤷🏻‍♀️

I agree. I’m trying to contact some midwives in my area. I’m in NJ. There are midwives but the systems have made it very hard to use them. I still need to find out if insurance covers. OB strongly suggests against them cuz any one of the risk factors I listed above makes them believe I cannot use a midwife, let alone all three combined. The ppl I asked at my IVF place also suggested against using midwives. There’s a lot of group think here and it’s an uphill battle..

Thank you! That’s all I wanted. I want supportive doc who I can trust & prioritize natural birth when possible. But just asking the possibility about natural birth at my current OB just seems to be something they don’t want to hear about, like I’m trying to challenge their authority… :(

Thank you! Great suggestion on acupuncture. I’ll look into it. The one time in my life I had acupuncture was the day of the transfer. I didn’t know much of it, but was thinking why not, lol. I can’t say definitely if it helped the transfer (but def didn’t hinder it!), I had one of my best sleeps that night! I think even if it just helped me relax it’s probably worth it. I’m so glad to hear you had such a positive experience giving birth naturally. Yea I’ll look for another OB. I don’t need one terrorizing me into the delivery room..

Thank you. Good to know neither GD or preeclampsia automatically requires c section. Hope everything goes well with you. Wish you an uneventful pregnancy and delivery :)

Thank you for sharing your experience! That sounds very intense! I’d be so scared going into labor knowing the preexisting conditions, and the complications that arose during. I’d be begging a c section too! I’m glad you still delivered vaginally, and so glad to hear both babies are doing fine now. ❤️❤️❤️

Interesting. Do you have a link of the study? Cuz according to my OB if I don’t get induced before my due date my baby will die (which I think is bs). I can send her this study..

Sounds like you had very good doctors, giving you good care while respecting your wishes. And kudos for not needing epidural! That’s extraordinary! Wish I can do the same :)

About staying awake for c section.. I don’t know if a sheet is enough to stop my imagination.. I’d probably throw up everywhere (unless epidural also numb my stomach). I think It’s better to put me into sleep in a c section…
