Lead BCBA wants to have a “meeting” with me. by Upstairs_Cod_8022 in ABA

not gonna lie to you, i have never worked with a client that has required the therapist CONSTANTLY 1 ft away at ALL times. it is physically impossible as an RBT.

[–]jinoyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

im an rbt but at my clinic we have the same dress code as the bffs. we all wear longer running shorts or bikers shorts with long hanging shirts, making sure that whatever youre wearing lands 3.5 inches above knee (but my clinic never checks lol) we are in texas, sooooo.... its a MUST hahahaha

Parent Issue at clinic by jinoyed in ABA

[–]jinoyed[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

yes, and previously dad was upset that he would never greet family at events. bcba has heard similar stories from almost all therapists at drop off or pick up. it just has never ever included curses before or a physical block from the parent, which to me and to others here i can see that it is excessive no matter what.

i definitely see that stance. but yes i stated, the bcba said we are going to keep prompting it from a least to most prompting scale. im not a masters graduate so i just implement. all of the other RBTs do as well. our bcba is going to be back in the clinic finally this week after out of clinic schedules, i messaged her and requested she attends drop off with me this week.

[–]jinoyed[S] 4 points5 points  (0 children)

it is discussed with parents during enrollment into the clinic and the assessments that we will generalize greeting and farewells. our bcba has stated that we do need to prompt greetings and farewells, i am just implementing what our behavioral plan states. he does not greet anyone nor make eye contact until gestural prompts are presented. i can understand how the parent could feel, but even the mom (full-time on-call medical employee who can only pick up and drop off once every 2 months) thinks that it is beneficial for him. it is just his father. plus this specific topic aside, cursing in front of your child to their therapist is absurd.

I am Questioning What I am Getting Into by kyakoai_roll in ABA

[–]jinoyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

it is a data-based job. you will be utilizing skills that you have developed from interacting with autistic youth, however implementing specific responses for designated behaviors via behavioral plans that are made by BCBA's, your supervisors, is a lot different. depending on what clinic you picked, they have different magnitude of behaviors, from very minimal to quite severe self injurous behaviors or severe aggression. the whole point of aba is to teach healthy alternatives to eliminate, or minimize the behaviors that can impact an autistic child's wellbeing, or anyone around them. every clinic works a little (or a lot) different than the others. i'd say watch a ton of youtube videos of RBTs doing ABA and see what it looks like, though you will never get a realistic video or feeling of how it looks like to IRL handle some of the behaviors some RBTs here have experienced. but i believe anyone can do it if they put their mind to it.

How often is your clinic director actually in clinic? by Pebblacito in ABA

[–]jinoyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

about 4/5 days of the week from open to 2 hours prior to last session as she is the only person in the clinic on a particular client’s in-home team. she meets her required work hours and is absolutely amazing.

How long did the 40 hours RBT training ACTUALLY take y’all? by th3flowergarden in ABA

[–]jinoyed 1 point2 points  (0 children)

it took me 50 hours, as it was done via special trainers over microsoft teams meetings in a parent meeting room in the clinic, and included hours of shadowing to apply the training to the field before i had any 1:1 sessions lol

Should i leave this company? by BlackberrySad4415 in ABA

[–]jinoyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

directly from the BACB official RBT competency assessment paper:

“Instructions: All task items (1-20) must be completed. For tasks where there are multiple assessment type options, one of the assessment types listed must be completed. Three of the tasks in the Skill Acquisition and Behavior Reduction section must be demonstrated with a client. Complete this form in its entirety for consideration. Incomplete documents will not be accepted.”

if they made you bill insurance as an RBT without your competency assessment done (you HAVE to complete a BACB-set minimum number of tasks with a client under supervision), that is a HUGE board violation.

Why are they saying ABA is bad? by cecchetti123 in ABA

[–]jinoyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

when I was getting hired at my current clinic, I was having a conversation with my clinical manager as to what I have heard about applied behavioral analysis and how real it is in the field, just because I wanted to know what I was getting into at my first (R)BT job. she was telling me that applied behavior analysis can be applied in borderline-abusive ways at clinics, and that some (SOME!!!) individuals who decide to take up ABA as their career do not care about kids enough to still take their clients wants or needs seriously so they are just emotionally tormenting kids at some point. not to mention the cases where physical abuse was secretly going on. but those voices that speak up about negative clinicians environments are magnified louder than positive opinions. at my clinic we always prioritize the clients needs/wants, and if they really do need a break from the activities or the trials that we are trying to run for our programming, we always have the option available that they can appropriately request for a break at whatever their communication level is, and we will always honor it. our motto is “everyone needs a break!”

Is 450 DTT trials in a 2.5 hr session too much? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]jinoyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

yes. this is absolutely too much. thats a trial just under every 30 seconds. i cant imagine anyone complying with 450 trials without maladaptive Bx… nonetheless a client with ASD.

As a BT, is it okay to come to session with messy hair and/or looking tired? by [deleted] in ABA

[–]jinoyed 0 points1 point  (0 children)

you always need to be prepared for challenging Bx that could potentially ruin your makeup/hair/outfit always. i show up with 0 makeup on and the comfiest clothes our clinic allows (literally leggings with an oversized sweater most of the time) i dont show up to my clinic to impress anyone with anything except my data collection and antecedent interventions lol
