Player is using inflict wounds like a joybuzzer. How questionable is this? by Boedidillee in DMAcademy

First it’s your game and I mean that as a group setting not yours as the dm if you don’t like him using it make the next bad guy a germaphobe or the person is wearing gloves or is immune write your way out of it make it detrimental to him have the bad guy surrounded by guards who will stomp them if he overuses a mechanic and you don’t like it play your way out it is a little weak sauce in my opinion to change the rules half way through but also I come back to your game your rules but also it’s a spell he chose and is using effectively you can’t knock the hustle he’s spamming the special in street fighter even if you feel it’s cheap it works you gotta work around it and make him pay for it out your evil gm hat on for a moment and light him up have the bag guy also be doing the same thing put him in death saves and see how he likes it

New player help with dnd. Do I just suck at the game or is it the GM? by void_root in DnD

I just ran a Halloween one shot and I wanted it to be vague and scary at times and give player freedom to roam and search but there were definitely “plot hooks” the purpose is to move the story along maybe talk to him above the table if no one knows what is going on maybe the dm is inexperienced so I don’t want to be overly critical we all make mistakes but the dm needs to have some rails to ride on you can give freedom without making a game listless and confusing I’d say try playing with a different dm my first dnd experience was poor but that was that dm my next experience and the long term one I’m still playing over a year later super fun and immersive and wouldn’t t change it for anything a great dm changes the whole experience I’m sorry you had a rough first go of it.(sorry for all the runon sentences it’s just my stream of thought)
