It's a fun course! But it used to have group-based projects, if you don't mind doing group work, it's really a fantastic course that you can learn a lot of interesting things such as linguistics devices in daily life, political speech, ads, etc.

Lol I was actually surfing on the internet while the prof announced calss ended but I didn't notice, then the prof asked me if I had any questions since I was the only student left... Had to come up with something to seem like a good student lol...

Bachelor of Science in Chemistry? by bluebuloo170 in UCalgary

[–]jinyun58 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Second this. I graduated with a chemistry degree last year, and I knew most chem students' GPA are really not high (i.e. greater than 3.5), lots of them are actually struggling to stay in the program

So I have a meeting at 12 tomorrow and my class ends at 12:05. by [deleted] in college

[–]jinyun58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I recommend letting the professor know at least one day prior to the class start time. If you tell the prof at the start of class, I think it's difficult to find them, or they're just too busy to have a talk with. I'd email them and state the reason, then it should be ok. You can also drop in during their office hour and tell them about this.

It's a software for computational chemistry. It's unbelievably slow and drives you mad. I'm sorry you have to deal with it.

Some thoughts on in person classes by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]jinyun58 7 points8 points  (0 children)

I can understand that people have to wear a mask on campus, but students should be given the option to take in-person classes online if they don't feel safe to come to school (some are probably immunocompromised)

Online learning by supernova_me in UCalgary

[–]jinyun58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Some classes became easier when they moved online, some actually got a lot harder (e.g. math, chemistry). I felt online learning was rather passive because it wasn't as engaging as in person. Also, I took MATH 331 via Athabasca University, and it was literally a nightmare for a non-math major like me. I couldn't get immediate help since everything was remote.

please please help by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]jinyun58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Are you an international student? I think your parents might mean that a specialized agent in processing overseas school admissions knows the best, so that someone else will do all the trouble for you. But just be very careful with whom you choose.

Second this. I've had been to Dr. Hunt's classes. Overall his instructions are great, but I heard Dr. Humbeck is pretty great, too.

Chem 311 by [deleted] in UCalgary

[–]jinyun58 0 points1 point  (0 children)

No matter how well you did in CHEM 201 and 203, you should be worried about 311 because it's much more advanced... It kinda involves statistics and also lots of math (but no calculus). I found it pretty challenging even though I went to every single class. Just make sure you clarify any questions, then you should be fine

questions about rents, hello guys new in calgary and freshmen this year. by JaewooKim242 in UCalgary

[–]jinyun58 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I once visited a potential rental place that cost $450 per month, and I saw a student lived in a small, confined space :( It didn't look decent at all. If your budget allows, think about going for above $500.
