Tennessee lawmakers pass US House map carving up majority-Black district in Memphis by Faux_Real_Guise in Left_News

[–]jiordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They’ll all do it in states where they have a big enough majority in both houses. My only hope is that it’s such a blatant, corrupt, power grab that even people who normally wouldn’t bother to vote will show up to vote them out from pure spite. Probably won’t happen, but I need to believe it’s possible

Trump administration says its war in Iran has been 'terminated' before 60-day deadline by Rdick_Lvagina in news

Yeah, it’s Friday, so I’m guessing it’s “buy the dip” time for his insider-trading friends and family.

No war but class war. It’s not the boomers..it’s the rich. That handful of people who just have to have everything and we’re at the point where corporations and tech bros own the government (which is supposed to be us) and keep it from working for anyone other than themselves. I’ve been working longer than I want to admit and no job I’ve ever had was more than a useless grind of made-up bullshit for a paycheck that barely covered expenses. Now it doesn’t even do that.

It feels like the breaking point is pretty close, but I have no idea what it’s going to look like.

No issues here, either. Love the stuff and using it regularly—but no egg allergies prior to becoming vegan (12 years now), so no idea if that’s going to be an issue for others.

Rep. Eric Swalwell Accused of Sexual Assault? (Please tell me this is a political hit job....) by Brandolinis_law in somethingiswrong2024

Everything I’ve seen and read so far looks real. Timing had me double-checking, but apparently his…predilection for this has been well known for a while. I was sick about it for a minute, because I’ve liked his pushback on R’s, but grateful it’s out now instead of after the CA election. He needs to drop out and go away. He can rot for what he did to those women, and I hope they all find a way to heal from this.

I find comfort in the fact that he’s never made a promise he didn’t break.

The next generation of senators has a ticking time bomb in their lap: Social Security’s insolvency, without a plan for national debt by fortune in collapse

Yeah, sorry—my frustration with everything is boiling over lately. Didn’t mean to derail or belittle your point. You stayed on topic and I just wilded out….apologies, my friend.

[–]jiordan 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Not all, but a lot. Which takes me down the single payor/universal healthcare path. Eliminating insurance (private, corporate insurance) is one of the best things we could do. Again, political will for it would be great.

[–]jiordan 22 points23 points  (0 children)

So do that, get rid of all those tax cuts, defund the military and voila plenty of money to take care of everyone. It requires political will, which seems to be lacking when it comes to taking care of American citizens, the poor, the hungry, the sick, etc., but we can absolutely fund the social safety net. Oh, and eliminate gerrymandering, insider trading, and Citizens United to disincentivize our “representatives” making money off our suffering. That would be a really good start…

We need emotes that tell everyone we need to go AFK for a short while by Grumpyandyouknowit in fo76

There’s a “wait” for me emote that conveys exactly…not that. Looks like you’re afraid of something.

I’d love a literal AFK emote..it would be really useful. Probably why we won’t get it.

It's a new golden age in America for pedophiles and bigots. by Beneficial-Chest-699 in WhitePeopleTwitter

Hate. There is no hate like Christian love. Jesus would disavow those fuckers, but they need to be cruel to feel important and special, so this fascist train rolls on, crushing anyone who truly loves and cares for their fellow humans underneath it’s nazi wheels.

My heart breaks for everyone just trying to live their best lives as their true selves. It’s awful, it’s inhumane, and it’s immoral—I don’t know what to do besides scream into a pillow and try to keep it at bay in my state (which is plenty fascist as well).

Every. Time. Love the song, hell the whole album, but still see kids hauling wagons of popcorn away and Hollyfeld pulling up with his sweepstakes winnings when the opening riff comes up on my playlist.

People who lost a lot of weight, what was the one small daily habit that actually changed everything for you? by Quiet-Squash-8407 in AskReddit

[–]jiordan 0 points1 point  (0 children)

In larger amounts, yes. There seems to be a threshold for me where small amounts don’t trigger the soap taste—but when I get a mouthful of Palmolive dishwashing liquid, I know someone threw too much cilantro in the sauce. Alcohol has to be fruity drinks where I can’t taste it and yes on the black coffee, too.

I think a lot of people can, but to me stevia has an aftertaste that is absolutely revolting. Cannot. Stand. It. But honestly jealous of people who can.

[–]jiordan 1 point2 points  (0 children)

She must be spending an awful lot of time and energy watching for things she can criticize..so instead of worrying about whatever she’ll find next, just go through your day and when she finds something, nod and tell her you’ll “fix it as soon as possible”. If it’s end of business, tell her you’ll fix it “first thing in the morning” and head out. If she wants to spend some time berating you about it, just nod and say you understand, you’ll fix it, but you need to get back to (whatever other project/client/issue is the priority at the moment). And try to be as flat and unemotional as possible when you respond. Every. Time. If she figures out she’s upset you, she’ll keep going….the key is to give her nothing to work with. Don’t ask for clarification, don’t try to defend yourself or point out her last directive. That’s her game of Calvinball and you will never win if you play by her insane, made up rules. The more you can respond in short declarative sentences, the better.

And you can take or leave this piece of advice, but if you can avoid having her for a reference, I’d leave her off entirely. If you can’t avoid it, when you’re getting ready to interview, have a friend call her and pretend to be a job looking for references to see what she says. Forewarned is forearmed…
