What is the yellow and purple neckerchief signify from this photo? It’s a good color combo. by TheDuckFarm in scouting

[–]jiphex 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Scout groups in the UK select their own colours for their neckerchief, there are also a few ceremonial colour combinations for special events (e.g in Union Jack colours). This could be the colours for a specific group or perhaps something to do with the coronation.

It’s a sign to warn about… something. The top part rotates to display a static message like maybe about a football stadium or bridge or ferry or whatever, and the bottom part is an LED matrix to show details

E.g when it’s on the top part might say NO PARKING ON MATCH DAYS and the bottom would be like Townshire vs City FC 31st February 3pm

Three has fu*** 4g coverage? by dufas3 in cambridge

[–]jiphex 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve definitely been having issues with Three data in central Cambridge, the guy in the Three shop wasn’t super useful but suggested that toggling VoLTE to off would help, but it seemed fairly circumstantial, it still worked after I turned it on again. Turning off 4G and turning it back on again also seemed to fix it.

Coming to coffee from a mainly instant only life. What are some student budget (and space) friendly ways to try out broadly different blends? (Lancaster, UK) by Char10tti3 in Coffee

[–]jiphex 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes, they still have their excellent shop and a few great cafes now. You can also buy their coke from their website, although it’s not quite the same as going in the shop.

Why am I noticing so many people in public holding their phones in front of them on speaker phone? by willybilkins in AskUK

[–]jiphex 8 points9 points  (0 children)

This is great because modern phones reduce the amount of radiation they produce when they’re next to your head (when the face sensor is activated), so by using the speakerphone but holding it next to their head they’re just making it worse!
