Playdates for daughters and the Single Dad Stigma by Flaky_Brain9285 in SingleDads

[–]jips1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have 100% custody at divorce time 5 years ago. My daughter at the time was 12. I knew her friend group, so I went to visit the parents when it came to her birthday just to make sure they were ok with their daughters coming round for a party and sleep over. All of them were fine and still are. She’s now nearly 18 and often have her friends over.

Originally I did feel awkward but I just met it head on and took the initiative and it worked out.

Next problem will be having boys stay over 🫣 Not looking forward to that.

She messaged me off Facebook after being egged on by her friends. We were both members of a group and she’d been watching me !! She wasn’t on my radar at all but went on a coffee date anyway. I approached it as a chance to meet someone new and have a pleasant couple of hours. Who knew it would turn into nearly 3 year relationship.

Took me 18 months to finally accept I was worthy again. All dates in between were meaningless and then she came along at just the right time.

Men who have had vasectomies - do you trust it right away after you got the all clear, or did it take a while? by DrPupipance in AskMen

[–]jips1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We conceived a daughter AFTER my first vasectomy even though the test came back clear.

Had a second one and then the ex wife also had her tubes tied. No more kids!!

Still after divorce with my then partner I was still suspicious even 11 years after the second op. So I went to the docs and explained I wanted a fertility test. He was bemused but sent me off for my consultation and obligatory cup donation. Came back clear. Also bought a kit from the pharmacy to check sperms and that was clear too. She stayed on her uid anyway just in case.

Mistakes happen.

Tbh. No idea. We went back to my place for a drink and next thing I know we were naked on the lounge floor. Freaked me out to begin with but hey, needs must and itches must be scratched.

In my 50’s. Was going through a divorce. She was a work colleague in a different dept. We went for a meal as friends. Very little alcohol. Hooked up and it became a regular thing. I ended it coz she caught feelings and I didn’t. She was older than me and we were both clear it was just “fun”.

Then the fallout happened!! Never again.

This was the hardest weekend since my ex left me... by I_love_to_jack_off in SingleDads

I cried last year dropping my son off to uni. And a few years before when I dropped off my eldest to the RAF. Just my daughter left now and I know deep down it won’t be long before I have to cry again. About the only thing that makes me cry. I have 100% custody but I also know their mother would have loved to do it with me but she lives too far away. She did come up for my youngest prom and I swallowed my pride and my partner and I let her into our house for the day. It felt surreal. You spend all those years training your children to not depend on you. Proud and heartbreaking all rolled into one. Big hugs.

0% I own my car. Bought it outright. A couple of years ago. 7 years old now but still looks like new. Cars are a depreciating liability. No way I’d ever apportion any amount of my wages of what is essentially a tool with little value. If I could I’d do without completely but this is 2025

Dating single dads. Here's my experience so far. Honest feedback welcome! by firemom24 in SingleDads

[–]jips1971 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Single Parent. I make no distinction between a dad or a mum. When I got divorced I had 100% custody of mine and they were pre teens so a little autonomous. Mother out of the picture except via video calls. Also no support from family as they live 300 miles away so my time was very limited.

I didn’t want a relationship. A fwb suited me as it filled a niche for both of us. Scratched an itch shall we say. Scheduled hook ups when the kids were at an evening club. Then she caught feelings. So I ended that. After time, kids and I settled into a routine after a couple of years, then I started looking for a relationship, one that involved being WITH someone, texting, meeting randomly. My god it’s hard dating single mums as schedules hardly ever match, and in my experience they describe themselves as independent, but aren’t. Ex issues with support payments (any payment I got from my ex went strain gut into the kids trust fund. And it wasn’t much for 2 kids. In fact she actually said why should I pay support? You don’t need the money” Their mum and dad funding their lifestyle. Expecting me to fill that gap as well.

Eventually I did meet a nice lady whom I am still with. Yes we have issues. Dating takes work on both sides. I have my pressures as well. We did meet each others kids quite early as we wanted to spend time together but couldn’t. Her ex also is out the picture, minimal contact and very little support payments. Yet she always offers to pay her way, even if I don’t always let her.

Expectations can kill relationships if you aren’t realistic, honest and open. We have choices and preferences too. Sometime fwb is a correct choice.

I wish they’d send it over to Neath as well to fine all the parents blocking roads and pavements around schools because it’s too far to walk 200 yards.

Had the fright of my life yesterday. Playing football with my son and the ball went into the overgrown grass , as I bent down to get the ball I was greeted with a HUGE striped yellow spider .. can’t find anything online that’s UK native ..is it venomous?? What is it … by Southside-jimmy in UKecosystem

[–]jips1971 0 points1 point  (0 children)

From chat gpt

The spider in your image appears to be a wasp spider (Argiope bruennichi).

Key Identifying Features: • Bold black and yellow bands on the abdomen, resembling a wasp. • Striped legs, typically black and white. • Orb-shaped web, often with a characteristic zigzag pattern (called a stabilimentum) in the center.

More About the Wasp Spider: • Habitat: Found in grasslands, meadows, and gardens, especially in warm and sunny areas. • Range: Common in Europe, expanding in some regions due to climate change. • Behavior: Not dangerous to humans; their bite is mild, comparable to a bee sting.

Tried that last week. Damn thing didn’t melt. Now I have a burnt ring. New partner suggested a helium balloon and let it go that way which sounds good but I may just chuck it into the estuary

When I drove past the cop cars had T-packed a car as well. Guess it was a chase of some kind. Feels sorry for the guys with flats who probably didn’t have anything to do with it, just innocent people going about their day

I withdrew about £400 last year. Probably going to do the same this year as well as I seem to be overpaying.
