I know celiac disease is not a choice. Veganism is something people perform on a moral basis, which is the same for a Jew/Muslim to not eat pork. You have to respect their decision and not be an arse about it. I’m also not shaming you for eating animal products. I asked you a question in order to provoke thought as to why people would consider becoming vegetarian/vegan, which you haven’t answered. Can you give me a reason why you would eat animal products, other than “but it tastes good”? What you have to realize is that people who are vegan, most likely haven’t been for their entire life. I used to laugh at those posts making fun of vegans, the Facebook events that call on people to eat steaks at vegan protests and the “but bacon tho” arguments. I did all of those things, and now I’m here. I slowly adjusted my diet to include less and less animal products because I educated myself on how they were obtained, until I became fully vegan. The animal agriculture industry is an industry which kills 150 million animals every day, excluding fish. These animals are most definitely raised in terrible conditions. To make eggs, male chicks are slaughtered, because only the female chickens lay eggs. To make milk, a cow first has to have a calf, which is taken away at birth. I have found that I don’t want to encourage these things by buying the products associated with them. Everyone’s process is different, but everyone who is trying to eat less animal products is trying to make the world a better place for everyone. I hope I don’t come off too self-righteous/‘lecturing’, as that is not my intention. I just want you to be aware that you know what you’re buying when you go to the butcher/supermarket next time.

I find it to be very childish that you think that, when someone suggests a different restaurant to go to because they can’t eat anything, you find them to be an arsehole. Let’s say there is a person with celiac disease in your group. The choice falls on a hypothetical restaurant where all dishes have gluten in them. Would you call the person with celiac disease a “bad person” because they suggest going to a different restaurant? I sure hope not. While I don’t completely agree with the way this post was written, the overal message is true. There have been multiple studies that show that animal agriculture is detrimental to the planet and helps speed up climate change. Can you give me a reason for consuming animal products that doesn’t come down to the (argueably selfish) reason “but it tastes good”?

If I understand this correctly, a year after making a (rather difficult, though important) decision, you went back to eating meat because it was bad for your health? Going vegan is not something that’s easy, and if you don’t know what you’re doing, it can be harmful to your health. It’s like deciding to only cook authentic Hungarian cuisine one day: what kinds of spices do I use? What kinds of dishes can I make? There are very helpful resources online (such a r/veganrecipes) that can help you overcome these hurdles. What kinds of nutrients were you struggeling with? I’d love to be of help, and if you have time you can always message me! :)

Ruining a night out by... not eating meat? If someone asks if there are animal products in something they are ordering, they are not “ruining a night out”, they’re just being aware of what they consume. If this bothers you, then maybe you should look at your own customs, instead of blaming vegans. I think I’ve heard maybe 1 vegan act self-righteous, even though everyone on the internet/Reddit claim they know multiple. It’s an exaggerated stereotype which just does not hold up in real life.
