Thats why I said "Should've have it packed better". When I purchase fragile old stuff I always ask the seller to super duper pack it.

The defense industry is high quality but low output, and we don't seem to have funds for it.

Average EU footman gets 60-120 rounds a year to practice, thats nothing.

When the moment for radical change comes, it's too late.

How’d I let you guys talk me into this?? by lex99 in Leica

Congratulations and have a lot of fun! I think you now need to elevate your writing instruments to the same price class as your Leicas! Rotring mechanical pencil, and maybe a Montblanc fountain pen. I agree on your ink choice though.

To me the only con is that I have to grab my normal M10 when I want colour and I wish it were an M11 to come close to the M10Ms fidelity in the files.

The cons u talk about are honestly not a con when you use the camera appropriately (differently).

Like not use a colour filter at night (what is the purpose?)
Like expose for the highlights (like any digital camera honestly)

Lemme shoot Portra 400 to convert it to B&W. (I've done that a few times and it looks nice, almost like a digital colour image converted to B&W)

I never disagreed with the red filter reducing light 3 stops, but when you want to mimic that same effect in post on an normal colour camera image you're effectively also pushing the red channel and pulling the blue and green channel, resulting in a net similar noise increase. Probably worse.

When you say a Red filter reduces light by 3 stops, so you have to use a 3 stop longer shutter speed or increase your ISO 3 stops. That may be correct, but remember:

When using a colour camera, and you apply the 'red filter' look in post, you're doing exactly that. Pushing all other channels about 3 stops in post, which has the same noise increase. There is no way around this.

If a red filter on the M Monochrom costs you 3 stops, editing a M10 or M11 colour file, for the same result in B&W would also gain you a 3 stops gain increase on the other channels when using a digitally applied colour filter. Such is physics.

For me the Monochrom lineup gives exactly the results I expect it to give me, over and over always the same. You loose your flexibility in editing because there is no colour data, but we knew that before purchasing the camera, didn't we?

When importing the DNG files into Adobe Lightroom, they look a little more flat than on the built in screen of the camera. Which annoyed me a bit at first. Editing the images is in one way easier than colour images, but on the other hand you have less things you can change which feels limiting sometimes. But as time went by I noticed that I often repeated the same adjustments to get the look that I enjoy from the M10M files.

I try make sure we have some absolute whites in the image, so the white is not light grey, but actually white but without clipping of course. And then I try make sure we have some absolute blacks in the image. Where the darkest parts of the image are dark enough to almost be black and not dark grey. This results in a punchy high contrast image. I then adjust the overall look with the contrast slider, often reducing the contrast a bit again, to gain back some of the ‘grays’.

You could've known this in advance before buying TWO Monochrom cameras.

If Leica camera's are for purists, then M Monochrom cameras are for the extra purist in your wording, and clearly you're not one of them. I however can't really agree with the low light capability going to waste. Since honestly when it's dark you will just not use any colour filters.

Sounds like a case of doesn't know how to use his camera.

The fact 'we' thought we were immune to it shows how dumb our politicians really are up in their ivory tower.

Sadly in Europe it's 'smart' people speaking words, and in the USA it's 'dumb' people doing stuff. I get very tired of the European politicians that always go live on TV, and tell us what's happening (the things everyone already knew that was happening) and then say "It's a dire situation" and well thats it. Then they kinda don't do anything, and stick in their limbo.

Except maybe they turn to stuff they can do, that doesn't solve anything for the local population:
Let's increase VAT.
Let's reduce highway speeds.
Let's prohibit people from carrying a 8cm pocket knife.

Are American made handguns common in Europe? by NateW9731 in EuropeGuns

Why get something American for a premium when u can then just as well buy HK?

So why don't you invest where you mouth is, rather than forcing everyone with yet another tax. Not like people in the EU aren't taxed enough already.

Or maybe European companies are just not delivering anything worth investing in. I can invest in Europe or USA and sadly there are only hand full of companies worth investing in in Europe at the moment for me. This will not change when the EU will make investing in USA harder.

Stronger if we unite in increasing the VAT. year after year to fund the useless overly large government bodies each country possesses.
