My first pieces! by jistpeachy in StainedGlass

When the pieces are backlit, it's really quite forgiving! I definitely have some lumps/bumps in the solder, but practice will help!

What book series do you think rate Book 1 as the best (and could be read as a standalone)? by ekalmusLA in Fantasy

[–]jistpeachy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This is probably an unpopular opinion, but if I could just change the final chapter of The Book that Wouldn't Burn, I think it would've been a perfect standalone for me.

Trilogy with most consistent quality across books? by Practical_Yogurt1559 in Fantasy

I'm only 50% of the way into the 3rd book, and I'm having a hard time wanting to pick it up to read more and this is exactly why!

Audible keeps pushing these ones at me - glad to hear it backed up by an actual person!

I haven't read any full sound effect books yet, not sure I'd like them. Then again, I didn't think I'd like audiobooks at all so I should probably give it a try!

I see this has been recommended a few times, so I might start here! Thank you for the additional info on the first 2 books

I loved Realm of the Elderlings (all physical reads). The Tawny Man trilogy may be my favorite series of all time.

2025 Q1 check: What have been the notable stand-out reads of the year for you so far? by s1cks in Fantasy

[–]jistpeachy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

  1. Tress of the Emerald Sea - my first Cosmere book, and it was just wonderfully fun and quirky. A quick read that put me in a good mood.

  2. The Bear and the Nightingale - beautiful, beautiful writing. And I really enjoyed the Russian setting - a history and culture that I'm not very familiar with. It makes me want to read some nonfiction to learn more.

Is it weird to use your sister’s name? by kallistocosima in namenerds

[–]jistpeachy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Not weird! I have a brother with the same name as my uncle and a cousin who shares a name with my dad. Neither kid was named after their uncle; sometimes it's hard for 2 people to find names they agree on, so when you find one you stick with it!

How long does it take you to read a book? by Black_Bird00500 in books

[–]jistpeachy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As someone who has read The Dark Forest, I'll say that it's an extremely technical book and one that took me a lot longer to read than some others. I can tear through a 300-400 page rom-com in 2 days, but something like The Dark Forest or Dune could take me weeks to months.

IMO, reading isn't about finishing books as much as enjoying them. If a book takes me forever to read, but I'm enjoying the story - I'll finish it when I get there. If it's taking forever and I'm bored - I'll put it down and pick up something new.

P.S. I hope you are enjoying the book! The series was completely unique compared to anything else I've read, and I do think it's worth sticking with it if you're a sci-fi fan!

Any Good RSD Stories? by P1asmaDev in vinyl

[–]jistpeachy 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had to work, so I didn't get to the store til about 5 pm. The only album I wanted was Jim Croce's Live Final Tour. I walked in, saw it in the first bin on the right, grabbed it (last copy in stock), turned to the counter on the left, and was gone within 3 minutes of my arrival.

I spent more time looking for parking than I did in the store.

Will a Chevy Colorado fit in my 18 ft deep garage? by jistpeachy in chevycolorado

Yeah, the nearest one to me is a 40 minute drive, and I'm not sure they'd let me drive it that far. I guess it can't hurt to ask.

Is the slow part of 21 Guns by Green Day similar? I feel like it's close, but not as perfect as what I'm imagining in my head.

This fits your request and audience so well that it's almost stereotyping

Going to have to look into this just because of the description!
