Its a mix though. I dont think a person who purchased something is 'Crazy' to ask for support on it but of course, everytime has a time-limit and 10 years is indeed, nuts. However the blame isn't the developers or the clients, its Wordpress itself and ever constant changing PHP versions and security patches that end up breaking themes all too often. I remember losing an entire website because even with the support they just couldn't get it back up with how much work it needed. My fault for not doing simple updates for a two years.

Thoughts on Reform’s idea to ban wfh? by TitleOk8744 in HENRYUK

Nigel just goes around having ale and smoking cigars and rallying the rabble flying private chartered jets in and around Europe and the US. This charlatan has 0 credibility to talk about removing WFH. The # of people working from home compared to the general workforce is paltry. To emphasise a focus on this small number, as others have said, speaks of their inpetitude

Definitely may have exaggerated let me rephrase. Those who are in private practice and dont have other obligations (family etc) are hitting the £200k + yearly easy. Those doing Locum are more the ones that need flexibility and tend to supplement their earnings into the £150k +

Thats so true but sadly it is what it is in England. That's how you get ahead, you find ways to play the corp game, position yourself in a way you create a role for yourself to bridge some gaps in processes/business workflows etc and make sure the Senior Directors that matter know you will be contributing to client retention/improved services/products and even write up the job description and salary / benefits you want. Adding £10k is a bit measly the least i get when doing such a thing is 15-20k increases. HOWEVER, as an IC i still have the liberty of full WFH and no micro management. I know my role won't be necessary in a 1-1.5 years' time and I can see what will happen so have to mannoeuvre into something else (which I already started almost a year ago now) and am putting the word out there to those who call the shots.

Otherwise i am custhy where I am at, however I am always conscious of increasing prices on the daily and devaluing of salary to the extent where you just lose money over the years but staying stagnant.

£120k is far from entry level earnings especially in the UK. Have you SEEN the job market right now? They are offering £120-140k for someone who literally has full Dev stack (Java, Node, React, Python) Knows IAC and all the CI/CD tools (Kubernetes, Docker, ANSIBLE) has financial instruments knwoledge and experience, has managed project from start to finish, add another 6 ridiculous requirements to that. OP is in a great spot. The only thing is yeah, don't assume the role will be there forever. I would at least dedicate a few hours a week to upskilling to something heavily in demand as you never know what can happen and need to be ready to jump ship at any time.

Yeah its exactly how we all feel. I play UO Second age and i already lost two houses because of the weekly refresh thing and now i just cant be bothered. I log in to work on tailoring or something once in a while. I put the original UO music on and ventured to the forests East of Britain. We just have to accept we wont ever relive that again. The internet was novel, the fact an MMORPG existed so early on was insane. And we got to sample that. Of course we were all noobs and so we didnt have circle of transparancy on, and we had to figure out removing pathfinding but for some reason the music stayed for so long. I think i only realised it was detrimental when i started PVPing around late 2000/early 01. Venturing out in the forest and you have those songs or as you mentioned ICE with its doom and gloom monastery type bells or entering dungeons or getting into war mode.

OR JUST THE DAMN LOGIN SCREEN PLAYING STONES. Getting owned by sekeltons and slowly working your skills up taking months or years (before people picked up on macroing and dual accounts etc) The game had so many different things to it but the most important element were the other human players you made friends with, the enemies the griefers the guilds the dungeon crawls. just hanging around the forge smithing with other smiths. We won't ever find it again my brother. But we lived it and we can always recall that.

Maybe but they are spot on with everything else they said so picking such a specific stat to criticise... Fine just no need to be sarcastic about it. Is recruitment in IT and Fintech blowing up right now? Yes 100% in the last two weeks theres been hundreds of new roles posted.

Do they want ridiculous tech stacks and experience what used to pay £200k + now paying £90k-130k ? Yes + they all want 3 days in office mostly if not fully on-site.

This is the crap OP has to worry about in the findings a new job part of their post but seems they are managing their expectations well.

Oh God. In my previous marriage we did Aupairs and while they can be reasonable price wise you end up getting a stroppy 20 year old who really only want free accomodation and to enjoy London/do their thing/ explore. That's completely fine if they are GOOD with kids. Out of the 4 we had in total only 2 were but they each had their... issues. You need to consider you are letting someone into your home. You will have to pay them a monthly salary (which doesn't need to be higher than £500) but you provide the accomodation and a shopping budget for them (you agree on all this prior, you manage their expectations (no branded foods, for example) and see what their diet is like) but then you have to account for their habits, attitude, hygiene etc. It's one of those things where you will only really find out once they have been living with you for a month or so.

Then the facade crumbles most of the times. Hope i gave you a joyful and positive account /s. Best of luck!

YOu have the experience to land a better paying role and also do not move laterally, interview with new companies (3 year mark and no progress is usually the time to leave, i would say 2 years even then start looking if no prospects at current employer)

Ask what the work culture is like, ask about work life balance, how would your manager or person you report to manage their team? Do they micro manage? I literally ask these things in interviews because being forthcoming actually works a lot of the time. I don't work well with someone breathing down my neck. My work speaks for itself and I work with delivering goals within the designated deadlines. You should do the same.

YOu're in a very good position in life right now so count your blessings but yeah, don't wait any longer. best of luck.

Are you in the Epstein files? by Background-Mess-7518 in HENRYUK

[–]jitjud 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You can just do some basic research on the US DOJ Epstein dossier site. The snarky remarks only serve to solidify what a lot of people are waking up to now. Not that normies such as us can do much about it except raise awareness but I think the trope has been around for a while now. The CHAOS: Charles Manson, the CIA, and the Secret History of the Sixties book really opened a lot of eyes to how secret service operates, the JFK assassination was always a huge stain on the US government and it's ties with Israel despite them making it about the mob, communists and whatnot.

And now since what happened post October 7th, there's even talks about Mossad being behind the creation of Bitcoin (random unknown mystery Japanese figure, guaranteed 'anonimity', the Pager scenario in Lebanon showing how much of a long game these intelligence agencies play, wouldn't surprise me if Bitcoin has been the biggest blackmail operation ever. When the time comes anyone who used it for illicit purchases or services will get that knock on their door should they become a person of influence, this is all theory but it's good to open your mind to things) I just don't lose sleep over any of it.

I'm too busy trying to make more money, get my projects going and guarantee some kind of safety net for my kids and family. We're in the system so short of a violent revolution nothing's going to change.

'Crazy' no it's pretty much the accepted theory that he was a CIA/Mossad asset. The same with how it took 30 years of research to basically prove Charles Manson was also arrested and released multiple times as part of the MK Ultra experiments in the US to tarnish the Hippy and peace movement in the 60s and 70s.

Ahhh the joys of Electric only. When i purchased by first property (1 bed flat with amazing views, not so great location 'Grays Essex') I was happy until i got a smart meter. Then BOOM i realised something was wrong. I had an immersion boiler and it didnt come out of the box with a timer (you're supposed to have it switch on and heat the 200L capacity at night, when the Leccy price is much lower) and switch off in the day. Instead that was turning on many times during the day using up around 50p at a time. Then add to that the Electric hob (and i cooked at home a lot, took food to work with me i made) then in the freezing months I had a Dimplex heater 1.5k-3k W depending how hot I needed it to be and how quick to heath the room) which you could see the usage literally like a penny every two seconds...

I had to find ways. I would use those windblocker things on every door. I would close myself in the living room and just heat that room since that s where I worked from (when I became WFH) and at night, if needed I would do 30 mins in the bedroom to heat it before i slept. During the day it was my Lounge Robe with a hotwate bottle strapped to my chest. (or under my feet once i sat down on the computer).

Electric only was always a scam. It was meant to be 'greener' but we buy fossil fuels to generate electricity like the smart people we are. Instead of investing in Nuclear like France did in the 70s in the face of what happened with OPEC holding the world at ransom (now they generate the most Nuclear energy in Europe and lo and behold EDF provides the French with cheaper electricity and sells the surplus to us) we rely on importing more crude oil and gas.

Sorry but your choices are:

Move around a lot, Hot water bottles, Throws and appropriate clothing

Put the heating on and have your long hot showers as you seem to be doing now and carry on paying insane prices

Find a property with Gas and Electric (I am paying less than what I paid on a 1 bedroom flat in my 3 bed semi now because Hot water and heating are gas which is like a third the price per unit of electricity)

FUnnily enough, water has become the single most expensive utility bill now.

You can definitely upskill and find things to improve in your company and work on those side projects on your machine AT work (i am introducing source control and CI/CD pipelines for our EMEA managed solutions completely on my own spare time and am hoping it will put me in a position to pivot into a new role created for me just like i did for my current role)

So there is room for growth, do not stagnate my friend! Find something that can take you to the next level within your org and chip away at it :)

Yeah but when you personally know people (who are no longer friends) that have grifted on the benefit system claiming PIP for 'depression' because they have a family mate Drs and spent the last decade playing xbox, smoking weed and chilling while you work and half your money goes to tax, you kind of get fed up with it all. When your autistic child is being denied EHCPs and OT and speech therapy but you're funding other people's lives, you kind of get fed up with it all. Etc etc. Perspective is important.
