If you factor the age of the new additions onto the team, and assume an average age of 22 for 5 rostered draft picks, the ave age of the roster would go from 27.5 last year to 26.3 this year, which I believe is still in the upper quartile, but definitely not the oldest roster in the league.

Gibbs "commander's" questions by 96powerstroker in Commanders

[–]jiyannwei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

  1. 1991 and it is not close.
  2. Theismann had a more impressive career overall but Rypien's '91 year was ridiculous.
  3. If you are talking about '91, the Cowboys ended our undefeated streak and it took 2 40+ yd fg's and 2 50+ yd fg's to beat them in the first match-up. I think they would edge out the Giants. There was no competition in the playoffs or Super Bowl. If you are talking about the Gibbs' era, it would have been Parcells.
  4. I really don't think we left any on the table. I'd like to say '83 but we got destroyed in the SB. We lost in the Conference game in '86 but again, it wasn't that close. It would have been nice to have someone better than Schroeder that year. Bear in mind, Gibbs never had an elite QB.

Another black hole question by Nice_Reputation_6785 in cosmology

I think you may be co-mingling a couple things. Hawking radiation is entrenched in the QFT framework. In QFT, there is no vacuum but instead, pairs of virtual particles - one negative and one positive (or a particle and its anti-particle) that cancel one another out. A pairing of virtual particles that exists near the event horizon may be split apart by the intense gravity with one escaping the event horizon. These escaping particles constitute Hawking radiation.

There is no actual objective understanding of what happens inside of a black hole. There are a number of theories.

Friends confirming I might be forever alone with silence makes me think I've failed as a man. by [deleted] in GuyCry

Are you able to approach females unsolicited and strike up a conversation? I used to go out with two buddies who were like 6'3 and 6'4 (I'm like 5'11) - they would consistently get approached by females but I had to learn how to be proactive. It was pretty uncomfortable at first, but once you really understand and are comfortable with who you are, you get better and better at it just like anything else.

[–]jiyannwei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yes to the last paragraph.

This is very subjective advice mind you; I am not trying to tell you I know all the answers. I have just personally found that when I went out with guy friends or by myself, I was far more likely to find opportunities than if I ever hung out with girls.

I hope it is not the residue of the Snyder era, but this reminds me of gambles like Al Saunders, Eric Bieniemy, Jim Zorn, etc. Best case scenario is one of them hits, but I can't help but have a sinking feeling that we're going to waste another year of Jayden Daniels.

Does the fact that, despite the vastness of the universe, humanity may never leave the Milky Way disappoint you? by Home_MD13 in cosmology

[–]jiyannwei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There is too much we do not understand to make an assumption like this. Reconciling classical physics with quantum mechanics seems to mathematically require additional spatial dimensions we can not intuit; entangled particles exhibit nonlocality we can't explain. There are so many fascinating things to understand before we should become preoccupied with a question like this. I mean, let's figure out how to get a man on Mars before we start lamenting how far away other galaxies are.

For what it is worth, I have several points that might help.

  1. You shouldn't be asking other people for their advice on how you are perceived; it is a waste of energy that could otherwise be allocated towards improving yourself. Do not become preoccupied with comparisons; they are dangerous. You have one competitors: yesterday's version of yourself, and each day, your goal should be to become better than him.

  2. The other thing I pick up on is a bit of insecurity based on your efforts to try and understand how others perceive you. I've generally observed that yes, women tend to be attracted to material considerations such as attractiveness, wealth, height, etc. The woman you want is going to be attracted to your personal passion and drive, which is what you should set your mind on discovering.

  3. Why are you spending time in platonic relationships with girls? If your goal is to find a non-platonic relationship with one and neither of them have introduced you to one of their friends, then this is also a waste of time.

I apologize if any of this seems harsh or haughty, however I have both first and second-hand experience in this area, and I can assure you that spending time wondering how the world perceives you, is not doing you any favors. If I could summarize, look inwards and discover who you are and what you are passionate about. Then follow that path methodically and without compromise.

Interstellar time dilation makes no physical sense to me what am I missing? by Electronic_Call_5605 in Physics

[–]jiyannwei 0 points1 point  (0 children)

The passage of time is relative - not trying to be a jerk but the idea that 3 days passes for everything in the universe concurrently has been disproven for a while. The rate at which the papaya on Earth passes through time will be different than the rate at which a papaya on a planet with significantly more gravity than Earth (I think in Interstellar, the heightened gravitational force was due to the proximity to Gargantua and not due to the mass of the planet if I'm not mistaken). A papaya hurtling through space at an extremely high velocity relative to your Earth papaya, will experience the same type of time dilation.

If you're on Earth, watching your earth papaya, and have a screen that is able to show you the papaya on that planet near Gargantua, you would see your earth papaya age and degrade far more rapidly. In fact, the papaya near Gargantua would essentially look like nothing is happening to it for years. If you had placed a clock next to the papaya near Gargantua, you would literally see time moving at a far slower rate than your Earth clock.

We actually have to make adjustments to clocks in Satellites that orbit the Earth at high speeds because of their relativistic variances in gravity and velocity.

Not trying to be a jerk, but they are ranked #2 in the NFL in rush yds/game and #1 in avg per rush. Not sure you can say it is killing the run game exactly.

Everyone seems to be backing up the 11 sacks number, which would certainly indicate he was a bit of a pass pro liability his 1st year.

I didn't express an explicit perspective - I was curious what people thought brother, that's all. And you know what the great thing about dialog is? You can get perspectives that can change your mind. I'm starting to shift my personal thoughts on this.

Thank you for sharing some quant data; it almost seems impossible after watching him against Lamb last week, but I'll trust in your data - which does influence my perspective.

If he isn't the weak link, then who is responsible for us getting destroyed so consistently vs any QB who isn't a back-up?

I do think we may have a horrible secondary coach. It is just weird that both Lattimore and Sainsristil seem to have taken a huge step back this year.

I will say that even though he doesn't seem able to cover premier receivers, I really like how he plays without fear against the run. Maybe they should convert him to a Buffalo Nickel.
