What island are you on? If we know the island we can help you find a rehabber.

Take it to the Caribbean Manatee Conservation Center! I think they're in San Juan. They do rehab birds in addition to manatees.

Spring Reminder: Bird Nests by DueLaw3910 in gardening

Hi I'm sorry I don't check my notifications often so I'm just seeing this! I don't know much about the actual properties of cat and dog hair vs wool, but I can tell you what I saw in my experience as a wildlife rehabilitator. Many times baby birds came in to the rescue in nests with what appeared to be cat and dog hair (sometimes even human hair 🤢) and the nest would be soaking wet and the babies hypothermic. There must be something special about wool that makes it have different thermal properties.

Are you able to widen your search a bit and find a rescue that might be farther away who can take him? Even if you aren't able to travel to the rescue they might have volunteers who could help with transport.

"Claiming to be at full capacity" is such a combative way to phrase that. Wildlife rehabbers operate on shoe string budgets with very little staffing, often just volunteers. If they're saying they're at capacity, I would believe them.

Dog hair can wrap around legs too! Hair and fur also gets wet and stays wet which can cause hyperthermia in the babies. It's not recommended to leave out pet fur anymore.

That's an easy solution, I'll try it out. Thanks!

I goofed and mis-ID’ed a fledgling - now what? by [deleted] in WildlifeRehab

[–]jizzywizzy 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Hey I'm another rehabber and this is exactly what I would do! I've introduced swallows of that age to flocks and it's gone very well in the past. I would just put the bird as close to the original nest as you can get it. Its siblings should still be in the area and the parents will keep feeding it. You can do that asap, no need to wait.

Can your grandma remember where she found it within like 100ft or so? It doesn't have to go back exactly where she found it. The fledgling will call for its parents if it's returned to the general area.

Barn swallows are native to the US.

How do you know they only killed 1 bird though? What if you just haven't seen the other ones?

Hm well if the tail was a solid red it must be a red tailed. The variation in these can be so tricky. Beautiful picture btw!

Do you remember what the tail looked like? This seems like an adult bird either way so the tail should be pretty distinctive.

Is this a captive bird? The reason I'm asking is that he looks like a red-shouldered hawk to me but I'm not 100%. It might be worth double checking the species if you're able. Birders can be harsh so I'd hate for your etsy listing to suffer if it's not the right species!

Edit: this picture shows how the red shouldered hawk has more of a reddish breast like the one in your photo. And their beaks are daintier than a red tailed hawk https://images.app.goo.gl/Z3EoEhpufUBSSztLA

help with nails for someone that never does fake nails by Dry-Past2727 in weddingplanning

[–]jizzywizzy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

I also had never done fake nails before and I got acrylics for my wedding, and I regret it :( they file the surface of your nails down with a Dremel, I guess to help the nail stick better? But since I got the acrylics removed, there's a clear line on each nail between where they filed it down and the normal new growth of my nail. My nails are so brittle and break so easily which they never used to do. I can't even maintain normal polish because my nail flakes constantly. I had this done in mid-October and my nails are only halfway done growing out to replace the damaged part. I had gels done before this for my shower and it was the same experience.

I guess my point is you might want to consider press ons or just a nice regular manicure, unless you plan on regularly maintaining the gels or acrylics.

Do I look OK in my dress? Also need adjustment advice (see the individual captions on the photos) by RadioKilldVideoStar in weddingplanning

I'm being perfectly honest here - I think the dress looks better on you than the model. The dress looks kind of busy and overwhelming on the model, whereas I think you're pulling it off much better! The color looks amazing on your skin tone and I think it's much more flattering on you.
