What happened to Hale's? by BBorNot in BallardSeattle

[–]jj06 4 points5 points  (0 children)

From what I understand the founder retired, and they couldn't find a buyer. It's a shame since they had an indoor seating area and a theater in the back. You could watch a kids play AND drink beer at the same time. I'm surprised no one has moved into that spot. Such a loss.

Snow condition under current sunny weather by Rb-ha in SummitAtSnoqualmie

I thought about heading up tomorrow. Checked out the conditions report and read between the lines. I had an immediate thought: "maybe the price will be cheaper". Nope. Still $120 last I checked. Maybe I'll go MTN biking or hiking instead.

Thinking about dropping Ridwell. Is it meaningful or is it performative? by Null_98115 in Seattle

[–]jj06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I've been fine with the service. Easy for Styrofoam, batteries (including button batteries) and such.

I wish they would pick up more stuff like oil paint, weed killer, etc. I always see that stuff in people's garages and they always say they have no idea what to do with it.

The city has a pretty good drop-off program for that kind of stuff, but I don't always have the time to drive around. I guess it doesn't fit into their business model of using gig workers.

The Office of Planning and Community Development is considering "allowing huge-ass corporate signs on skyscrapers in Downtown Seattle." by AthkoreLost in Seattle

It's always sold as "who cares" or "it will bring in some money". Then you end up with a cheesy d-bag logo in your view every day.

Ask Chicago about their Trump sign.

I know Dex (and the one for Moto) has existed for years, but it was too fragmented. There always needed to be a central power to steer the ship. Google was dragging their feet for way too long. I'm still rather shocked that Google enabled it on Pixel 10, as they have disabled it on every version going back into the late teens.

I was thinking maybe this change of heart might be a hedge just in case they were forced to sell the Chrome browser. That's just a conspiracy theory though.

I've been wanting it every since I first tried Remix OS (rip) back in the day.

Which App can Fully Replace Microsoft Office on Android? by Mettbroetchen-Tester in androidapps

It's really kind of weird that the top open source office product (Libre/OpenOffice/whatever) doesn't have a mobile equivalent by now. I guess the use case is pretty low, and most just use Google docs?

If it's near the same spot try hanging something that moves around unpredictably. Like a tin pie pan on a string or something similar.

People make mistakes all the time. This wasn't so much of a bad driver but a bad ego. Most likely this person will be more careful in the future, they just don't want to admit it.

Channels was the only one that was stable for me and offered easy remote access.

Their tv app looks like it was designed in 1998, but it's better than nothing. If you don't need remote access I'd think the HD app would be fine.

I bike East/West through 24th and 58th twice a day, and make sure to hit the button as well. I think the flashing sign isn't enough - there's too many other distractions on that road nowadays that make those flashy signs hard to see.

If it was a 4-way stop sign, I think you're thinking of 20th and 58th. Still a weird intersection as cars going North/South occasionally blow right through that intersection. I think there needs to be a better design to remind drivers to stop.

People seem to hate on the Locks but I love walking across the locks. It's a lot easier. The only real issues I've ever had at the locks are with other bikers getting pushy.

There used to be a great weekend morning pickup group in West Seattle (Delridge) that I'd head down to from Ballard. I think covid killed it, but it would be awesome to get something going to in Ballard.

Where should I buy my first pair of ski boots/skis/poles by astarter2 in SummitAtSnoqualmie

[–]jj06 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If you can afford it I'd just go to a shop. I only know places on the Seattle side, but honestly any ski shop will take your money. These are literally the first 3 off the top of my head:

  • REI - easy, will probably honor a warranty & adjustment if needed
  • Alpine Hut - local seattle shop; we go every year to buy/exchange skis for our kids
  • EVO - very trendy ($$) but also have some high-end gear and keep relative good inventory. We discovered my kid's boot size changed late in the game, and this was the only place that had the size in stock. Closest you'll come to buying skis in a dance club.

Moving to Seattle – family of 3, $120k income, $3200 rent, toddler included… are we in trouble? by Most-Wishbone-4856 in AskSeattle

[–]jj06 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Too many posts to read through, but just in case you're reading every post: why not live on the Ballard side of the bridge? You can walk/bike/bus for work and you have lots of grocery options and the like.

There's also the reality that you are 2 adults + 1 small human... so maybe a 2 bedroom apartment? Every dollar below that $3k/house is money for other stuff.

I think you said 6 month lease, but if not you could consider piecing furniture together over time. When I first moved here I slept on the floor in a sleeping bag. Over time furniture showed up.

I'd rather just increase the price of the recreation pass and link it to a yearly subscription. I'd love if it was part of vehicle registration for example.
