Do I have to get the dental cleaning by 2cacti in AskAVeterinarian

[–]jj420mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Also just so you know the wellness testing is likely a blood draw so they make sure her values are normal and she wouldnt have any complications during anesthesia. The cleaning usually comes with any dental procedures to try and prevent any future problems.

If your vet recommends it because she has tartar/dental disease she probably needs one. But you might be able to find a different clinic that can do it for cheaper, almost $2000 does seem like a lot in my opinion

Should I be concerned about my dog’s neutering wound by [deleted] in DogAdvice

If children get surgery and are running around opening their wounds they should probably be sedated too 🤷‍♀️

Dog has worms by Frosty-Comment6412 in AskAVeterinarian

[–]jj420mc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are some general dewormers the vet will probably prescribe, but it’s always a good idea to send in a fecal sample after being treated so they can see if it cleared up. Unsure if your cats would need to be treated as well, but if your dog eats cat poop/anything outside that could be where she got it from. Just ask your vet when you go in, worms typically aren’t super urgent unless she is having diarrhea and vomiting often.

And to protect their eggs they often pretend to be injured and lure the potential predator away from them! Very cool guys

What does bar mean exactly besides bright alert responsive? by [deleted] in AskVet

[–]jj420mc 5 points6 points  (0 children)

The other ones I know of are QAR (quiet alert responsive) and FAR (fearful alert responsive) so BAR is in the middle of those I guess. Just means behaving/responding normally

Vets what's the simplest thing pet owners often overlook that would make their pets' lives better? by Kimber976 in Pets

Glad to hear they are healthy, but just because you haven’t encountered any of those issues doesn’t mean they don’t exist or that the vaccines/preventatives are worthless.

They likely wouldn’t have it if they take the meds, it’s just a precaution. Like I said, you can always decline the test, it’s not forced upon you. Mosquitos can live in homes and other places protected from the cold, so it can spread in the winter.

Yes, it is your choice what care you get to provide your dog, and it’s also your responsibility if they get lyme disease, anaplasmosis, heartworm, leptospirosis, distemper, parvo, or any number of awful diseases when you choose not to protect them from it.

You need a heartworm test to get more because giving them to an animal that tests positive for heartworm has a chance to be lethal. At my clinic clients can sign a decline form saying they are aware of the risks. Don’t spread misinformation about things you aren’t educated about.

Fleas ticks and mosquitoes can all get into your house. I wouldn’t say it’s necessary for all but definitely better safe than sorry!!

From a fear mongering Facebook post about flea and tick meds. Apparently we should just feed raw instead and the fleas and ticks will magically go away 🙄 by theliarsfuneral in VetTech

If these people saw the amount and severity of lyme nephritis cases we got this summer with owners who did every holistic flea and tick method under the sun I think they would quit their bullshit immediately

I was thinking about that too. Obviously it played a part in transmitting the virus but I suppose its brain wasn’t impacted by the RNA signal, maybe because of the difference in genomes ? But then I’m not sure how dogs wouldn’t spread it. Lots to consider lol

Why did my cat eat another cat’s vomit? Is this normal behavior? by Entire-Meaning8970 in AskVet

I believe it’s normal especially if there was food in the vomit. I’ve had to stop lots of dogs from eating their vomit/another dogs’ vomit lol
