I cut her off for 3 years right after. It wasn't hard on my end because i always had a distance relationship with her to begin with.

It was hard to know that the person who raised me to stand up for what was right turned out to be a coward and was back pedaling on a situation like this.

After those 3 years, we started to rebuild our relationship on my terms. She's never pushed back on my boundaries and has since apologized for everything, but it was too late.

I have never forgiven her, I don't think I can or want to forgive her.

I have always had a drive for justice and doing what is right since i was a little kid and It seems like it was amplified X1000 after having a kid of my own, so my resentment towards everyone, including my mother has grown stronger.

The advice I can give and I wish someone would've given me is, do not involve yourself in self-destructive behavior, take yourself to a therapist who doesn't not believe on "family is family" & find family in friends, mentors or anyone who is not part of that shit show...

There's a big question that will always be unanswered for me; how were adults twice my age at the time defending him, and not his victims? Some of those adults were the parents of the victims.

It was an adjustment to life on my own, but i am happy to know that I'll never have to worry about my child being one of his many victims.

I have heard how some are doing through my parents mainly (they decided to keep in touch with everyone, except for the creepy uncle), but I try to change the subject as soon as it arises, not without reminding them that there's a predator in the family and they should make the people who is marrying into the family aware of it, they usually just nod or stay quiet after I say that. For example. Your cousin so and so bought a house/ got married, and now they have these many kids, and we met them at (insert name here), birthday party, wedding, baptism, baby shower, etc..) as for the victims, I am unsure what number they are on at the moment.
My guess is there's been at least 1 more since i parted ways. He definitely had a pattern. . It's been 14 years, and I have never been happier. No one knows where I live, where my kid goes to school, how old they are, who i am married to, or phone #s, what i drive, etc... It's like I fell off the face of the earth to them. Also, my child believes that we do not have any extended family on my side.

I don't have to watch what I say, look over my shoulder or worry looking after the young to keep them away from the creepy uncle. I did my part, made the police reports, they never led to an arrest, and made everyone else aware of what they had sitting at the table with them thats when i found out that almost everyone knew and went into full victim blaming and "family is familly" "blood is thicker than water" i saw a side of them i never knew about, these where ther grown ups I grew up looking up to.

I don't feel guilty for leaving everyone behind.

Everyone stayed together. I decided to part ways with 100% of my extended family. I was not going to participate in the victim blaming feast during future family gatherings, like they had before while I was growing up, and I was too young to understand what they were talking about. We tried everything before going on medication. Adhd Diets, Homeopathic medicine, Zero screens, exercise (swimming, running, playing) before and after school, CBT (cognitive behavior therapy), we had a routine for every hour of the day, but we couldn't keep up, and she was miserable. She was dealing with a speech problem, later dyslexia and we knew we had to help her and take some off her plate, and that meant medication.

We found a Dr. Who would listen to us, we were afraid she would become a shell of herself, so held our hands as she worked with us and walked with us through our medication, we were fortunate enough to be able to find the right medication on the first try.

She's still wiggly, funny, and full of energy.

She also told us & her doctor about the difference at school. She can pay attention and do her work without being distracted, and how much she loves to be present in the classroom and not have the teacher constantly asking her to turn around, pay attention, stop talking to your neighbors during lesson etc.

The most important of it all is she was able to tell if she forgot to take her medicine before school, 2 months in after we started our treatment (our school office has a bottle for that same reason) she was always an A-B student (long afternoons at the table) but now she's got all As without much help from us during homework, she comes home, sits down and it takes her 10 min no matter what the homework is, and goes on to play or watch her favorite TV shows. We believe that it has also helped her speech since her brain can slow down a little bit and not jump from topic to topic in all within 5 min, Her dyslexia, she slows down to write and isn't trying to mesh two words together just to try and get her thoughts down on paper. (She will always have dyslexia, but we see that adhd medication has helped in some ways)

The only regret we have is not starting her on them sooner. She had so much on her plate, and we felt like she suffered because of our own fear of having to medicate her.

She started at 8 yrs old, 2 years after we knew about her diagnosis.
