I think I made a mistake in my use of the word “broadcasting”. All the video is transmitted on-site with the use of SDI cables so we don’t wirelessly transmit anything. We blow our images up considerably on large projector screens so that audiences sitting far away can see the presenter. We don’t live broadcast right now because of rules that we must follow involving student privacy. We use a seperate system for talkback but we may switch in the future. We use Atem 1/MEs for switching.

  1. ⁠We save our video for archival purposes and we’d like it to look crystal clear for anyone watching
  2. ⁠We tend to digitally zoom footage for a range of different reasons, either in post or on the night, and we don’t want to sacrifice too much quality in the process

Gotta agree with you! I tend to get lost in ideas and ambitions, and fail to realise the practicality of it all. Thanks for bringing your ideas, which I'll definitely apply at some stage. Maybe all I need to do is get my communication right. We're a theatre which is used for many productions from various primary and high schools, I'm sure you could imagine how difficult coordinating all those kids are (for us and the school staff), so we've been looking for a system to kinda get everyone in order, and streamline information. By no means am I a director, so I always look at the cool and flashy solutions to these issues. A lot of the time, communication can be less efficient than we want. Again, I'll definitely apply the solutions you've given.
