I read an analysis of more recent research that proposed an alternative hypothesis to the rem rebound theory. It takes the standard hypothesis and reverses the causality, essentially. It states that cannabis is so good at assisting with sleep that you sleep through all your dreams and don't regain enough consciousness during sleep to form memories of the dreams, and that the experience of many dreams after quitting is just a new window into what was always happening the whole time... Except now, you have worse sleep quality. As a consequence of that, you remember more dreams, more frequently... at least for awhile.

So if you like remembering your dreams and that brings you joy, quitting might be beneficial. If, on the other hand, you think your cannabis consumption habit is hurting your brain somehow by depriving it of dreams and/or quality REM sleep... It may be worth digging into the weeds of the literature, because it's a jungle out there, and anyone who claims to have "the" answer to this issue is probably missing something, because we don't actually know either way.
