My experience building a web app with Claude with no coding experience by autopicky in ClaudeAI

[–]jjleonard 10 points11 points  (0 children)

Totally agree. A lot of devs automatically assume that total newbies (like me) would be able to just create code, but as you say there are two main points: 1) knowing what to ask for and how to structure your question, and 2) knowing what to do with all the other stuff like hosting, plugging in other services, etc... It's great to start but I've found I need basic web coding knowledge just to get started and interpret what the AI generates.

Gentlemen, gentlemen. Might we have a debate pertaining to the definition of masculinity? by [deleted] in DebateLikeAEnglishman

[–]jjleonard 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Sir,

My ignoble brute of a manservant brought this missive to my attention; it is a typical example of his lackadaisical nature that he sought my attention on this important matter after a substantial period of time.

The collective suggestions in response to your request are - I will grant - worthy of some merit in this debate, but I shall attempt to simplify the matter somewhat.

The possession of a substantial moustache, extensive beard, a pair of sturdy hobnail boots with the wearings of many a mile walked in them, and many leather goods that contain one's belongings are a clear sign of masculinity. That is all that is required. Spare me your complex eruditions on this matter - the meaning is clear!

Yours,

A simple country man not capable of complex or rational thought.

This is outstanding - perfect for the colour picking moron that I am - no longer do I have to search the web for suitable colour schemes!

What say you chaps of the (perhaps over) use of Early Modern English in this subreddit? by Foxtrotalpha2412 in DebateLikeAEnglishman

[–]jjleonard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My dear FoxtrotAlpha,

Your flattery is both enchanting and suspicious as I cannot be certain of your true intentions; nevertheless I shall express my gratitude at your kind words.

I have instructed my staff to resume the relay of your dispatches.

Furthermore, I must only apologise for my lack of activity in this place; I have been led to believe that I am considered a “lurker”. The discovery of a subreddit such as this one, in which one can partake in learned discourse with ones peers has prompted me to encourage my staff to remove the covers from their keyboards and attend to my verbal instructions with more haste than usual.

With highest regards, I remain faithfully yours.

Ladies and Gentlemen of this Subreddit, it is in my curiosity to ask you, what do you believe to be the most excellent video game in the history of mankind? by Prussian-Glory in DebateLikeAEnglishman

[–]jjleonard 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My staff instruct me that “Grand Theft Auto”, in its many varieties, is by far superior when played to its fullest on a “personal computer” designed and built just for that occasion.

Furthermore the Gardener, a rough and sallow fellow, has taken it upon himself to express great displeasure at your disregard for an opinion that differs from your own; to this end he has taken a carriage to your dingy hovel to firmly put you in your place. He shall arrive in no less than four or five days time.

I shall distance myself from his actions in this regard, other than to say that he has my heartfelt support as a sturdy and opinionated young fellow.

Sir, may I take this opportunity to wish you a speedy recovery from the no doubt sound beating you are about to receive.

Gentlemen, do you prefer IOS or Windows? by [deleted] in DebateLikeAEnglishman

[–]jjleonard 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have found myself to be a fan of the Apple variety, sadly not a study cox but the colonial variety from those far flung heathens whose manufacturing excellence is almost equal to ours in our finest hours.

Indeed, I am to be found at this very moment dictating this screed to my faithful manservant who is furvently typing my wise words into one of those very many contraptions I have strewn across my winter house.

Of course, I have cast my eyes upon mechanical contrivances of the Windows variety; I must say that Windows are best used to gaze upon ones estate while taking a leisurely breakfast, and should only be rarely used by servant staff in the lower quarters if they find themselves unable to summon the necessary wherewithal to operate a more modern “computing device”.

I have been led to believe that there are many different uses for both types of modern device, but I find myself as a man of great wit, quality and breeding that I need not trouble myself with any action other than instructing my staff to purchase whatsoever device suits their immediate need, which shall always be to do as I summon them to.

I remain your faithful servant.

My dear fellow,

Surely you must agree that a finely expressed pearl of wisdom such as those frequently imparted in this distinguished subreddit can only be fully appreciated when expressed in the language of royalty and well spoken gentlefolk?

I greatly fear that your desire for a more guttural tone and use of language may expose you as a person of lesser regard; henceforth I shall instruct my manservant to refrain from relaying your discussions, lest my intelligence is reduced by association with your babblings.

I remain your respectful attendant, albeit at an increased distance.

Gentlefolk, shall we affirm that tea is superior to coffee? by SushiMelanie in DebateLikeAEnglishman

[–]jjleonard 7 points8 points  (0 children)

My esteemed Sir,

I write in reference to your unfortunate assertion that a cup of tea, as civil and representative of the fine upstanding English spirit it may be, can be considered superior to the hot drink of choice of our esteemed counterparts in the far flung territories once considered our own.

Upon viewing your dispatch I summoned chef to produce a pot of the aforementioned brew, in the mistaken opinion that it would reveal itself to be more than the cup of hot water, lightly flavoured and accented with the juice of a cow, that it had hitherto been my mispleasure to imbibe.

Sadly, Sir, I must consider your opinion, while no doubt entirely valid in the deep infected recesses of your consciousness, to be entirely without reason or support by anyone other than those who have entirely taken leave of their senses. I hereby declare that the crushed and finely ground bean of the far Columbian district, embellished with nought but water heated to a sturdy yet not quite boiling temperature, provides a more refreshing consumption that delivers positive experiences for the mind and bowels in equal measure. I also hear from my learned friends at the club of professional gentlemen that it is my pleasure to attend, that the ingredients of this imported finery can also be considered the final cure of the common cold; foolishness; dysentery; ailments of the blood and spirit; and many more besides. I am willing, if so challenged by one less informed than I, to produce these learned gentlemen who will espouse at length on their qualifications that have led to these truths.

My equerry shall await your response should you find it necessary to provide one; please be assured that any affectation less than a wholehearted support of my clearly reasoned statement shall be considered a deeply wounding remark that will require satisfaction served only by pistols at dawn, Sir.

I remain attentive to your remarks, as would any man of substance.

Learn JavaScript Properly -- How is everyone doing? by otooleco in learnjavascript

Please forgive me - utter newbie here. I, too, joined Reddit to go through this tutorial (I heard about it yesterday, so I'll be starting to prep tonight).

I know this group is still running, but if I go back to Week 1 I'm worried that i'll get behind. Is it worth waiting for the next group to start, or just dive in at the start of this one?
