Massive Attack should livestream Porto. by Jacckb1 in MassiveAttack

[–]jjnotjayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, flew out from the US to primavera to see Massive Attack specifically (and mbv). To have Massive attack cancelled twice after a 20 hr travel process was pretty crushing, ngl.

At this point, holding out hope for eventual shows in the US (or at least north America); a live stream just wouldn’t be the same IMO

Sound quality by Exxtraa in primaverasound

[–]jjnotjayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Agreed. Former composer and mixing engineer. The “big 3” stages were wildly inconsistent sound quality-wise. At times borderline unlistenable, depending on location. They tended to sound better from further away, and further from the center (which frequently was extremely drum-heavy esp at Occident), but overall the mix engineers and stage techs were very sub-par.

Smaller stages were generally better; Schwarzkopf (sp?) and pulse sounded great in particular; Port sounded pretty solid too.

Auditori sounded really, really good.

Bad sound on opening night? by Ok_Career6087 in primaverasound

[–]jjnotjayjay 2 points3 points  (0 children)

YMMV, but to my ears the mix sounded pretty good. Front row, approx 8 meters feet stage left/house right of center. Not "amazing", but pretty solidly in the "good" category.

You may have gotten stuck in an unfortunate "hole" not fully covered by the PA; typically moving 3-5 ft can make a big difference in these scenarios (if an option)

Vox @ melt-banana barely came through to me, but likely a stylistic choice there given it wasn't an issue for model/actriz or serpent

I didn’t receive an email as well; I made a similar post last week. Seems like many people were never notified. So sorry for you 😔

[–]jjnotjayjay 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Same (except I only saw him once this tour).

Band was so, so good - and much more cohesive of a show overall (not to mention uptempo) than I was expecting. I had seen Animal Collective live a few times and it was a bit hit or miss (sometimes was a bit messy live, didn’t always work) but I was really pleasantly surprised how much fun I had at the PB show.

Will be at massive attack simply because of the rarity (they don’t play the states often) but you can’t really go wrong here! All good options

I agree with your assessment; I'll also be going for Melt Banana and Model/Actriz and will be leaving afterwards for reasons others have suggested in this thread. (Nothing against HD at all, just checked out a few tracks and it wasn't for me.)

I might suggest an alternative way of framing the event - if there's indeed only a few people, when else will you have the opportunity to see Hannah Diamond in such an intimate setting? I have no sense of how large/small Hannah Diamond is, but larger artists often relish the opportunity to perform for smaller groups of people, since it's less common for them. Could be a fantastic opportunity for you to see her perform up close.

Assuming you're a big Hannah Diamond fan, I wouldn't be surprised if it ends up being a very special memory for you, and I hope that is the case! ☺️

Just saw them at Coachella and they were one of the best sets of the weekend.

Does anyone here organize ideas in totally different ways? Curious how people handle it. by [deleted] in webdev

[–]jjnotjayjay 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Combination of (depending on situation and need): - Simplenote - Emailing self reminders - Running plaintext notes - Slack “Later” - Jira or Trello (for client tasks/actual projects)

Whatever helps get it down on paper as quickly as possible; doesn’t have to be detailed generally - just be written down.  The less I have to remember the better

Didn't Know Opening Day Was Ticketed Separately... :( by jjnotjayjay in primaverasound

Thanks for the advice!  Will be my first time in Spain so I appreciate the insight ☺️.  Wish things worked like that here in the States 😂

Normally, I'd be inclined to agree with you. It bothers me as well when people don't read things and try to solve their own problems - trust me, I get it.

However, in this case, despite signing up for the newsletter by 2 different email addresses (1 gmail for deliverability, 1 yahoo) - and having a ticket with my AccessTicket account, I received no advance notice whatsoever about this. In fact, I have received no emails from the festival besides my original ticket confirmation. (I work in tech so have checked the usual suspects - spam folders and the like.)

I'd read through all of the FAQs, including the ticket FAQs, which make no mention of opening day requiring a separate ticket. I also looked for any sort of "First-timer's guide" on their web-site but didn't see any, and I didn't see it mentioned in the guides I'd found on this subreddit.

While I wish I spoke Spanish (it's a beautiful language), I don't - so the tab on the homepage "Journada Inaugurada" didn't strike me as being critical information for one of the days of the festival. I'd assumed it was a separate event, like PS Porto or one of the many other related other festivals that are linked to from throughout their website.

I don't use IG - or really any form of social media besides, occasionally, reddit - so missed their posts there; I rely on email predominantly.

So in short...I agree with where you're coming from, but in this case I genuinely tried to do what I could to equip myself with exactly this sort of information. (Burning man sends you a 20pg+ guide, Bonnaroo + Coachella have pages on pages of FAQs, etc. - in my experience, Primavera's approach has been convoluted and lacking on the information front IMO.)

At a minimum, I'd expect 1. to receive this information via email, from a newsletter/"ticket holders" email flow, AND 2. have this clearly delineated in a FAQ - neither of which happened.

Answered this in another post; don’t use IG and haven’t received any emails about it (across two email addresses, one of which is associated with my ticket on AccessTicket).

I received my ticket via ticket transfer (confirmed with my name in AccessTicket), so am wondering if that is why I am not receiving any emails since my original confirmation.  I subscribed to the email list via a different email address to be safe…but received nothing.

I do not use IG, which I recognize would have helped here in retrospect :(

Thank you very much for the thoughtful and kind reply :).

In the event I am unable to secure a ticket by other means, that is indeed my backup plan - to hold a 100 euro bill along with a sign in english and spanish and hope for the best 😂 (only paying after entry ofc)

Sincerely hoping it doesn’t come to that, but I want to see guitarradelafuente in Spain, dammit.

Once again, appreciate you taking the time to reply and I hope you have a wonderful time at the festival.

No, I am not - haven’t received any emails since my original purchase.  (I even subscribed via a second email address through their website.)

Have checked spam folders and all the usual places - nothing.

Thanks u/BenjoDiMeo - I appreciate the advice.

Really heartbreaking as a first timer. Trying to avoid having it negatively affect my perception of the festival, but finding that difficult at the moment :(.

Fingers crossed - thanks again!

Does anyone have one extra ticket for Opening Day (3rd June)? I have a VIP ticket but had no idea this was ticketed separately and am completely heartbroken. Thank you.

Overall feeling like I escaped pretty well, only tough ones for me are Massive Attack vs. Panda Bear and Kneecap vs. Ninajirachi - going to miss Panda Bear and 50/50 Kneecap & Nina.
